Judging a breakfast show on its ratings alone is always dangerous.
Watching breakfast TV is a habit and it has to fit into our busy morning schedules, so a slight change to the format can mean that our 10-minute breakfast break with our corn flakes and the telly suddenly coincides with the weather and we'll probably switch channels or even switch off altogether.
Viewers look for familiarity, comfort and something easily digestible in the mornings. BBC Breakfast has nailed all three of these traits over the last five years and for that reason, ITV has been floundering to match them in the early morning ratings war.
GMTV had grown tired and grey, and Daybreak was an ugly explosion of colour and dreadful decisions. The channel's latest attempt to wrestle back viewers, Good Morning Britain, opened with lukewarm reviews one month ago and the ratings have been dropping ever since.
But are the problems terminal?...

ITV launched its latest attempt in the breakfast TV war earlier today (April 28), with Good Morning Britain landing on our screens.
Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard, Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins co-hosted the brand new format, following Daybreak's end on Friday. But how well did they fare?
Most of the early reviews appear to be largely positive, with most people commenting on its similarity with Us morning show Good Morning America. Digital Spy has compiled a round-up of reviews and reactions from around the web below:

"The new 'serious news' format for Good Morning Britain feels like it's having to battle with ITV's natural lean towards fluff. The presentation of 'One Direction talking loves and relationships' as breaking news undermines a lot of the hard work they're putting in elsewhere. Do ITV really believe we can't absorb some serious news in the morning...

Catwoman was a critical a misfire for Warner in 2004, but that doesn't mean we haven't found a few remarkable things to say about it...
A Catwoman movie was originally announced in 1993, shortly after Michelle Pfeiffer's scene-stealing incarnation of the character in Batman Returns the previous year. But somewhere between its announcement and its eventual release in 2004, something mysterious happened. Michelle Pfeiffer left the project. Ashley Judd was attached and then detached, and a sum total of 28 screenwriters got involved in the script. And at some point in that creative process, poor Catwoman was effectively written out of her own movie.
The Catwoman we got was a weird mish-mash of The Crow and The Devil Wears Prada, with Halle Berry's incarnation of the heroine almost unrecognisable from both the comics and the version in Tim Burton's Batman Returns. Described by one critic...

Kylie Minogue stepped in front of the cameras during an appearance on British TV on Friday, July 2 to test out her skills as a weather girl. The "Spinning Around" hitmaker was a guest on morning show GMTV, promoting her new album "Aphrodite", and the programme was renamed Kmtv in her honor.
And when the hosts Emma Crosby and John Stapleton offered her the opportunity to present the weather forecast, the singer jumped at the chance. Minogue stepped up to present the prediction for her native Australia, urging residents in her home city of Melbourne to wrap up warm as temperatures were due to drop overnight.
The star was visibly delighted with her performance, jumping up and down at the end of her report and exclaiming, "Yay! My first weather forecast!"...

GMTV presenters reportedly feel like they have been given a "slap in face" by show bosses who have issued viewers with "humiliating" surveys. Insiders claim that the questionnaires are worded in an "incredibly loaded and negative way" and have led to fears that feedback could help producers decide who gets the sack. According to The Mirror, the first survey is on sports presenter Dan Lobb and gives a list of comments about him such as "his presenting style lacks energy". Andrew Castle, John Stapleton, Kate Garraway, Ben Shephard, Emma Crosby and Penny Smith will the focus of further sudies in the coming weeks. "The (more)...

Penny Smith and John Stapleton have today been tipped as likely casualties in GMTV's forthcoming presenter cull. According to The Mirror, bosses are planning to start using ITV's Independent Television News (ITN) company for the morning programme's news items, which could leave both Smith and Stapleton without jobs. At present, the hosts front an hour of news coverage on GMTV from 6am. However, it is thought that the planned shake-up could reduce costs as ITN's newsreaders and newsroom team would be cheaper. A source commented: "Discussions about this process (more)...

Kate Garraway could be axed from GMTV. The 42-year-old presenter, who is thought to earn a £200,000 annual salary, faces the sack from ITV as it looks to make cost-cutting measures on the morning programme. The programme is reportedly looking to axe one male and one female presenter from the current cast, which also includes Andrew Castle, John Stapleton, Kate Garraway, Ben Shephard and Penny Smith. A source said: ''Everyone is absolutely dreading the results of the review. There will very likely be some big-name casualties.'' Both 35-year-old Ben Shephard and newcomer Emma Crosby are thought to be safe from the jobs cull. Another source ..
