Sex and the City has found new life among an entirely new demographic of viewers. After the iconic series appeared on Netflix on April 1, subscribers took to binging the series. While there has been plenty of discussion about Carrie Bradshaw and her pals’ sex lives, it’s important to remember the entire series was based on a very real sex column that ran in a New York City newspaper back in the 1990s. Candace Bushnell created Carrie Bradshaw as an alter ego. While many parts of Carrie’s life mimic Bushnell’s New York City dating experience, plenty of creative changes were made. Do you know what paper Bushnell’s column ran in?
What newspaper ran the original ‘Sex and the City’ column?
Carrie Bradshaw famously made a living writing about her own dating experience and the sexual exploits of her friends Charlotte York, Miranda Hobbes, and Samantha Jones. Carrie...

In the early 90s, producer Aaron Spelling and TV creator Darren Star struck primetime drama gold with the high school soap opera Beverly Hills 90210. The show laid the groundwork for some good old-fashioned scheduled viewing for homes waiting to see what kinds of trouble the kids at West Beverly would get into. While the series would get to put its characters in some compromising situations like Brandon’s gambling, Brenda‘s pregnancy scare, Dylan’s drug use or Donna Martin graduating, Spelling would explore more steamy stories with the spin-off Melrose Place. The show would crossover stars as Beverly’s Dylan and Kelly befriended Melrose resident Jake. And when Heather Locklear was added to the cast, the show’s popularity would skyrocket.

Apparently TV can’t get enough “Melrose Place.” The campy sudser from the 1990s, which was already rebooted once in the 2010s, is looking to make another comeback — and this time with three of the Og stars. Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga are all back to reprise their roles in the latest reboot, this time from writer Lauren Gussis.
Gussis will also exec produce with Leighton, Zuniga, Tiffany Grant and Jason Weinberg. Here’s the logline: “When one of their dearest friends dies suddenly, the Og residents of Melrose Place gather to honor the deceased. But the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”
CBS Studios is behind the reboot, based on the series created by Darren Star.

It’s been 26 years since Sex and the Citydebuted on HBO and changed not only the television landscape but also the way we think and talk about sex, relationships, and fashion. Created by Darren Star and based on Candace Bushnell’s wildly popular columns turned book, the show aired from 1998–2004, redefining women’s relationships to men, friends, cupcakes, shoes, and singlehood itself, as I write in my book Sex and the City and Us. And while their stories keep coming in the spin-off And Just Like That…, the original remains the gold standard of glamorous single woman TV: Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) are still the friends we love to laugh and cry with, roll our eyes and cringe at, go clubbing and shopping with. So, with all six seasons of Sex and the City now streaming on Netflix, raise a...

In a competitive situation, the prolific TV creator of such shows as Beverly Hills, 90210, Sex and the City and Emily In Paris, has signed a big multi-year overall deal at Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Carrie Bradshaw and the rest of the “Sex and the City” coterie are heading to a binge-watching date on Netflix.
Netflix has inked a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to license all six seasons of the popular HBO dramedy, comprising all 94 episodes, Variety confirmed. “Sex and the City” will land on Netflix in early April 2024.
The deal is not worldwide: The series will be available in the U.S. and several other European markets, sources familiar with the pact said. In addition, the deal does not include the two “Satc” feature-length films, nor does it include the recent spin-off “And Just Like That,” which is currently streaming only on Wbd’s Max.
In “Sex and the City,” which originally aired on HBO from 1998-2004, Sarah Jessica Parker stars as Bradshaw, a New York writer who “finds inspiration for her column from the genuine, emotional and often humorous exploits of her friends and lovers.

Have you ever wondered how characters get their names? Sex and the City used its source material for most of its main characters, but the writing team decided on the names for guest stars and characters that came later. Aidan Shaw, Carrie’s second big love, was named after the actor initially considered for the role that went to John Corbett.

Aidan Shaw could have had any other name, but the writing team liked the name after hearing it on an actor they considered for the role. That actor was too busy for the part, but the first name stuck.

The ladies of Sex and the City spent six seasons dating all of the eligible and not-so-eligible bachelors of New York City. From 1998 until 2004, fans tuned in to see Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, Charlotte York, and Samantha Jones search for great love and great sex. While the characters were busy dating, the series’ cast was not. None of the main Sex and the City cast members dated any of the show’s guest stars. One cast member dated someone who was almost on the show.

Likely thanks to delays caused by the now settled dual Hollywood strikes, we won’t see the third season of Max’s And Just Like That until 2025.
The return was confirmed in a Max promo released earlier today with first looks of its upcoming 2024/2025 lineup. The spot also confirmed previously announced 2025 premieres for HBO’s Euphoria, The White Lotus and The Last of Us.
A specific premiere date for the Sex and the City continuation series was never set, but the writers room was back in operation beginning in early November following resolution of the WGA strike, and production start pending resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike. It was just ratified last night with 78.33% of ballots in favor of the November 8 tentative agreement with the AMPTP.
It won’t be the first lengthy delay between seasons of the Sex and the City sequel. There were 15 months between the Season 1 finale on Feb.

Exclusive: Tracey Jacobs will end a 25-year run at UTA next year.
One of the most accomplished Hollywood talent agents of her era, Jacobs will stay on for the next several months to help with the transition of her clients and serve as an adviser to the company. She hasn’t set her next move yet, and her exit is an amicable one.
Jacobs left ICM to join United Talent Agency as a partner in 1998. She has blazed a trail for agents in Hollywood and in particular female agents, who had little voice in the hierarchy of a male-dominated industry when she came to UTA. She became the first woman to serve on an agency board when she took that post 15 years ago, and she served as the longtime head of UTA’s talent department.

Paramount Global chair and National Amusements president Shari Redstone is one of the most powerful people in Hollywood. She is also an observant Jew and a supporter of Israel who has been reeling over the days since Oct. 7, when Hamas terrorists attacked the Jewish state, she told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday in a corner booth at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago. The Beverly Hills restaurant was closed to the public for the evening in order to host “Black & Jewish Conversations,” an event that Redstone and Gelila Assefa, Puck’s Ethiopia-born wife, began organizing well before the Hamas attack in order to foster increased conversation and partnership between members of Hollywood’s Black and Jewish communities.
“Look, I’m not doing well, to be honest,” Redstone acknowledged. “I think there are no words to describe what took place, and all I do every day is try to do something that’s...

On a plaque at the Watts Towers Art Center, adjacent to the iconic spires built by Simon Rodia, is a quote by the institution’s late co-founder, the renowned artist Noah Purifoy: “Creativity can be an act of living, a way of life, and a formula for doing the right thing.” The phrase, as well as Purifoy himself, has inspired Acts of Living, the sixth iteration of the Hammer Museum’s contemporary art biennial, Made in L.A. — and the first since the UCLA building was expanded this year thanks to a capital campaign that counted Marcy Carsey and Darren Star among its top contributors.

“The only thing I said to him that I was concerned about was that I just didn’t feel comfortable doing nudity, and I suspected that if it wasn’t in the pilot, it would be a part of a series,” she continued.
Thankfully creator Darren Star, assured Parker that there was no pressure to do nudity for the show.

The Season 2 premiere of “And Just Like That” opens with a montage with the three main characters — Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) — engaged in intimate acts with their respective lovers. And while the latter two appear in states of complete undress, Carrie does not.
Parker has talked openly about her “no nudity” stance in her career which dates back to her breakout role on “And Just Like That” predecessor “Sex and the City.” Davis, Nixon and Kim Cattrall all appeared nude on the show — which ran from the late ’90s to early ’00s on HBO — but Parker never did.

And just like that, Kim Cattrall has put an expiration date on Samantha.
The “Sex and the City” icon confirmed that her upcoming cameo in revival series “And Just Like That” will be her last appearance as PR maven Samantha Jones.
“This is as far as I’m going to go,” Cattrall told Today. “It felt like dipping my toe back in time and having a wonderful afternoon. And then a great martini!”
Cattrall added, though, “I don’t think I’ll ever say goodbye to Samantha. She’s like a lot of other characters that I’ve done over the years. I get very emotionally attached and protective of my characters. She gave me so much, and I’m so appreciative of her.”
Cattrall publicly stepped away from the role of Samantha in 2016 after continuing the character for two “Sex and the City” films. Cattrall is set to return...

Kim Cattrall wasn’t interested in returning to the Sex and the City franchise, unless she’d be allowed to do so in style.
During an appearance on The View, where she was ostensibly promoting her new Netflix series Glamorous, Cattrall dished about the call that she received from HBO about appearing on And Just Like That and the things that she needed, including the involvement of famed costume designer Patricia Field, to get to “yes.”
As The Hollywood Reporter previously reported, Cattrall’s cameo as Samantha Jones in the second season finale came about after she was approached by HBO chairman and CEO Casey Bloys, who also approached showrunner Michael Patrick King about the prospect of having the character return. King then wrote her cameo scene — which was filmed with a limited crew and without any interaction with her co-stars — into the finale.
