ESPN has been working toward a deal with the league for months, though it’s still unclear what NFL Media content will continue if a pact is reached.
It looks like ESPN is ready for even more football. The channel has been home to “Monday Night Football” since 2006, but it appears that ESPN is about to add a much greater selection of NFL content. A report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk indicates that the league is drawing close to an agreement with ESPN that will see the league gain an equity stake in the family of networks, and in exchange, ESPN will take over operations of NFL Network.
Key Details: ESPN and the NFL were reported to be in “advanced talks” for a deal in January. Disney has been seeking minority partners for ESPN, partially to help fund its future streaming ambitions. Having more NFL content could help...

NFL Network is cutting ties with commentator Michal Irvin after 15 years, Deadline has learned. Irvin’s exit comes amid a major shakeup at the network.
The former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver had been at the network since 2009. Irvin made headlines when he was booted from NFL Network’s Super Bowl coverage in 2023 following a complaint from a woman as he checked into his hotel. Irvin denied wrongdoing and filed a defamation lawsuit alleging he was falsely accused.
After being taken off the air, Irvin returned to the network later that year at the start of the NFL season.

Veteran names like Palmer, Selva, Siciliano and Stark are out at NFL Media, which could soon fall under ESPN’s purview.
NFL players who get cut often cite the fact that the league is a business, first and foremost. This week, some high-profile NFL Network personalities found the same hard truth staring them in the face, as the league decided it was time to move on from Andrew Siciliano, Melissa Stark, James Palmer, and Will Selva. Normally these personnel cuts wouldn’t attract much more than well-wishes for the departing talent, but in this case, there is room to speculate that the moves are designed to help the NFL streamline its media operations in preparation for a big deal with Disney and ESPN.

The NFL Network is making some on-air talent cuts, and among those leaving are Melissa Stark, Andrew Siciliano, Will Selva, and James Palmer.
“As is normal course of business this time of year, we are evaluating our talent roster for the upcoming 2024 season and beyond,” Nfln said in a statement to Deadline. “That process results in renewals, non-renewals and additions to our talent lineup depending on programming needs. Stark took to social media to address her exit after 12 years at the network, noting she would continue reporting on the NFL through NBC Sports.
“Great 12-year run at NFL Network — will miss working with so many incredible people,” Stark shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “I’ll see you on Sunday Nights this fall [on] NBC Sports.

The action might have been on the gridiron during Sunday night’s NFL game, but NBC didn’t waste any opportunity to put the spotlight on the Kansas City Chiefs’ most famous fan up in the suites.
Taylor Swift was at her second consecutive NFL game Sunday, once again cheering on Kansas, amid rumors that she and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce have started up a romance.
NBC cameras caught her in a suite alongside other famous faces, including Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, Hugh Jackman, Sophie Turner and filmmaker Shawn Levy. She was seen celebrating and cheering as the Chiefs scored a touchdown against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in the first quarter, among other moments.
In addition, NBC aired trailers for her upcoming concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which opens Oct. 13, and cut to footage of Times Square, where video highlights of Swift’s...

Aaron Rodgers returned to MetLife Stadium following his injury on the field during the New York Jets season opener on Monday Night Football.
The star quarterback was seen on the field prior to the game engaging with the night’s opponents from the Chiefs like Patrick Mahomes and fellow Taylor Swift fan Travis Kelce. The new team at NBC’s “Football Night in America” has yet to work a “Sunday Night Football” game in this year’s official NFL season, but they’ve already weathered at least one storm.
During NBC’s broadcast of the 2022 Hall of Fame Game last month, Jason Garrett, the former Dallas Cowboys head coach who is still relatively new to the art of TV sportscasting, got a bulletin in his ear courtesy of producer Matt Casey. “Looks like we have a rain delay,” Garrett recalls being told. “You guys are going to have to fill for half an hour.” Garrett, who has been working NBC’s Usfl broadcasts to warm up for his new stint on “Football Night,” took a moment to collect himself: “Oh, this is interesting.”
Everything that could have gone wrong with that telecast did, says Maria Taylor, who is taking over as the main host of the program this season.

NBC has new teams leading both “Sunday Night Football” and “Football Night in America.” And it will serve up new logos for both shows as well.
For 16 years, viewers of both football broadcasts have seen their titles arranged in a “shield” design. This season, the programs are getting a new look, with title logos that can be displayed more readily no matter the venue on which each program is being watched.
“It’s not a one-size-fits-all design direction. It’s far more nimble and less limiting than what a metallic shield was able to offer,” says Mark Levy, the NBC Sports senior vice president of original productions and creative who oversees the design of the division’s programming. “It just offers a flexibility that allos designers and animators a level of creativity” they didn’t have in the past.

NBC announced last month that Mike Tirico would replace the legendary Al Michaels as the voice of Sunday Night Football. Now, the network has revealed the rest of the team.
It’s now confirmed that Michaels’ stalwart broadcast partner, Cris Collinsworth, will join Tirico for what will be Collinsworth’s 14th season in the SNF broadcast booth.
It won’t exactly be a new experience for either, since Tirico and Collinsworth have teamed to call 21 NFL games since the former joined NBC Sports in 2016.
After Michele Tafoya exited NBC’s marquee football franchise amid controversy, the network has named Melissa Stark as its new sideline reporter.
Stark knows the terrain. She previously served as sideline reporter for ABC’s Monday Night Football for three seasons and has been a host and reporter for NFL Network since 2011.
After the news was announced, Stark took to Twitter and wrote, “Can’t Wait!

Melissa Stark clearly knows the value of staying in touch.
The veteran sportscaster served as the sideline reporter for “Monday Night Football” between 2000 and 2002, when she was just 26 and the game — then one of TV’s biggest weekly events — was still broadcast on ABC. She worked with everyone from the legendary TV executive Don Ohlmeyer to “Mnf” announcers like John Madden and Dennis Miller — and with Fred Gaudelli, the producer who would move on to work for NBC Sports and oversee “Sunday Night Football,” then all of NBC’s NFL coverage. With four young children at home, and having logged stints at ABC, NBC News’ “Today” and MSNBC, Stark in 2008 eventually chose to cut back on TV duties and focus on family. In 2011, she had the chance to take up new duties at NFL Network, and asked Gaudelli for his counsel on the move. “He has always been a mentor and a sounding board,...

Yes, yes, this should have been announced a few days ago but it’s summer and I’ve been away from home more often than not and such is life. Anyway. We had one glorious copy of the new North American DVD release of Spaced to give away and for your shot at it all you had to do was name the two members of British comedy outfit The League Of Gentlemen do not appear in guest roles on Spaced. And here’s where it got tricky ... the League, you see, has a founding member is purely a writer / producer and never appears on stage or screen. And so the correct answer to the question is Jeremy Dyson (the non-performer) and Steve Pemberton. All you people who mentioned Paul Hays? Sorry, not actually a member.
Getting it right and the first name out of the hat was Melissa Stark and so the DVDs are hers.

NEW YORK --- All three network morning shows chose Thursday to relate their newest hires to the media, but the only real surprise came from NBC News which said it had hired former ABC Sports reporter Melissa Stark as a national reporter for Today. Stark will also report for NBC Sports from the Summer Olympics in Athens in August 2004 and from other events. As reported earlier, ABC News officially hired CNN Washington correspondent Kate Snow to report for Good Morning America, where she will back up Terry Moran at the White House, among other assignments. And CBS News has signed on former local New York television weatherman Dave Price to do the same for The Early Show as well as host feature segments several times a week. In a showing of corporate synergy, Price will also do the weather for CBS flagship WCBS-TV on its 5 a.m.-7 a.m. news, and work with Viacom's syndication arm King World Productions to develop shows and appear on its existing programs.
