On a recent trip to Germany, I was cutting my pizza with a knife and fork, and as I brought the food to my mouth, my friend, German TV star Andreas Stenschke, said, "What are you doing?" He'd previously criticized me for wanting to slice the pizza in sections, admonishing me not to pick up the slice in my hands in a proper Italian restaurant. "This is not Pizza Hut!" he exclaimed. It seemed a little bossy, but he is quite Teutonic, though Andreas is normally amiable (take a look at him). Since I was doing what I was told I was starting to become neurotic. Apparently what caught Andreas' attention was that I cut my pizza with my right hand, holding the fork in my left and then, having done so, put the knife down and placed the...

I watch a bit of Reality TV and I'm a big fan of seven-time Emmy Recipient The Amazing Race -- the best of the breed. Better than American Idol and all the rest on NBC, Fox, ABC or the CW. I'd love to participate with my pal, charismatic German TV Star Andreas Stenschke (take a look and you'll agree) -- not just for the million dollars. It's fun and challenging, and the winner wins because the team has achieved victory, as opposed to contests decided upon by scheming and jealous cohabitants of a house or remote island. But the point here is to cast light on the devil incarnate of the most recent Survivor, which concluded Sunday night on CBS. Machiavellian is too tame to describe the overconfident and somewhat deluded Russell Hantz, who was earlier voted...

I love The Amazing Race, though reality shows reduce work for me and my entertainment colleagues. It's far more special than a recycled talent contest like American Idol (think Major Bowes, Ted Mack's Amateur Hour or Star Search) or a program like Survivor featuring repetitive stunts and ad nausea confabs as to whom will be backstabbed that week. That's why it's won the Reality Show Emmy six years in a row. It's a show I'd love to do with my pal, charismatic German TV Star Andreas Stenschke (take a look at him), whose personality would clash with mine. However, program rules exclude anyone without a U.S. Passport, a lame restriction since Europeans are permitted to travel to countries Americans are prohibited from entering. Andreas and I would've had great fun and provided the show with lots of...

This week we speak with Tom Chroust, former head writer of Forbidden Love. Chroust started at the show as an intern in August 1998 and eventually became head writer at Fl from July 2007 to June 2008. (He now is part of the writing team at All That Matters.)
During Chroust's tenure as head writer at Fl he shepherded the internationally loved romance between Christian Mann (Thore Schölermann) and Olli Sabel (Jo Weil). We talked to the out writer via email about that storyline, as well as other plots and characters he enjoyed working on. We also asked him what he wished he could have done differently and lots more!
German soap writer, Tom Chroust
AfterElton.com: How did you come up with the love story for Christian and Olli? Was it a story that you already had in mind in general, meaning a gay love story, or for them in particular?
