The funk don’t quit! Universal Pictures and DanceOn, the premier digital destination and No. 1 network on YouTube dedicated to dance entertainment, today announced a partnership to promote Get On Up, the upcoming James Brown biopic.
DanceOn will feature some of its channel partners—including Matt Steffanina, Ian Eastwood and Mega Jam—who have created original dance videos inspired by Get On Up and James Brown.
The dancers will also encourage viewers to create their own videos and submit them to Get On Up‘s official “Can’t Stop the Funk” website (www.cantstopthefunk.com), an interactive celebration of the Godfather of Soul. Fan videos will be showcased alongside classic dance clips of James Brown; clips of Chadwick Boseman, who portrays Brown in the film; and original videos from DanceOn channel partners. CANNES -- D. Stevens has come aboard to direct Marvin -- The Life Story of Marvin Gaye, which producer Duncan McGillivray is prepping. Stevens, a veteran unit still photographer, is making his directorial debut with Tricoast Studios Prods.' The Pet, which will debut in the Cannes market. The Marvin Gaye biopic plans to incorporate 24 of the soul singer's songs into a script written by Robert Scharrer. Roberta Flack will serve as music supervisor. McGillivray said the $40 million production will begin filming in six months in Washington, Detroit and Los Angeles. A competing project about Gaye's final years also is in preproduction. Jesse L. Martin is set to portray Gaye in Sexual Healing, an indie drama written and to be directed by Lauren Goodman.
