The Blue Angels, a feature documentary from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Imax about the storied U.S. Navy and Marine Corps flight squadron from the cockpit, has landed at Amazon Studios.
The documentary, also from Glen Powell’s Barnstorm Productions, Zipper Bros Films and Dolphin Entertainment, has not yet set its release plans after Amazon Studios picked up the worldwide rights. But The Blue Angels will screen in Imax theaters at some point, while the doc is also expected to get play on Amazon’s Prime Video.
The Blue Angels uses Imax cameras to follow a year in the life of the Blue Angels from training through their touring show season. Imax got its start in making films for museums, science centers and other institutional partners before the Canadian-based company branched out into digitally remastering and screening Hollywood tentpoles on its large format screens after they were often shot using its proprietary cameras.

Mr. Belvedere was an ABC sitcom that aired from 1985-1990. The series centered around an English butler who takes a job working for an American family in suburban Pittsburgh.
The TV show was based on the 1947 novel Belvedere by Gwen Davenport. The novel was turned into a film in 1948, Sitting Pretty, and its two sequels, Mr. Belvedere Goes to College (1949) and Mr. Belvedere Rings the Bell (1951).
The series was never a huge hit but did well enough to last five seasons.

The shocking death of soccer writer Grant Wahl has prompted an outpouring of tributes. The 48-year-old Wahl died on Friday under murky circumstances while covering the World Cup in Qatar.
Today, Fox Sports, where he worked as a commentator, saluted him in its pregame coverage of the World Cup before the start of a quarterfinal match between Portugal and Morocco. A clearly shaken Rob Stone welcomed viewers into Fox Sports’ studio on location in Doha, Qatar (see tribute below).
Wahl had created some controversy during his Qatar coverage. He wore a rainbow shirt to the USA-Wales match, but was denied entry to the stadium by the security in the conservative country.
On Friday in Philadelphia, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James talked about Wahl, saying he was “very fond of Grant.” Wahl wrote a Sports Illustrated cover story on high school student James, the first major coverage of the rising star.

From start to almost finish, the opening ceremony of the controversial 2022 World Cup in Qatar was all about Morgan Freeman today, plus some BTS
“From this land, we heard a call to the world to connect, to return if only for a moment to that which can bring us together,” said the distinctive authoritative voice of the Oscar winning actor over a video of desert and ocean scenes kicking off the event. Today was “really the first true opening ceremony at a World Cup, definitely has an Olympic type feel to it,” said Fox Sports’ energetic Rob Stone earlier.
Stone wasn’t wrong, but there was a lot of mixed messages in play too.
“So, we gather here as one big tribe, and Earth is the tent we live in,” intoned a lip-syncing and solemn Freeman on the field of Al Bayt Stadium in the opening minutes of the extravagant opening ceremony.

Few things are harder than knocking down the infamous 7-10 split in bowling. But, in the semifinal match of the 2021 U.S. Open, pro bowler Anthony Neuer did it, live on television.
The 18-year-old known as “The Ginger Assassin” — at least by Fox Sports play-by-play announcer Rob Stone — was forced to face the challenging spare in the seventh frame of his third match in the tournament. According to Stone and his cohost, the 7-10 split happened as a result of the ball “breaking loose early” on Neuer’s first shot.
For those unfamiliar with bowling, the infamous 7-10 split is when the only two pins left standing in the lane are the two corners of the back row. With two pins typically in between them, the 7 and 10 pins are just far enough apart that most bowlers can hit one or the other, but not necessarily both. And so, pulling off...

The Fox NFL Sunday cast has been removed from its usual studio pregame show today over Covid-19 concerns, Fox Sports announced.
Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw and Michael Strahan were swapped for Chris Myers, Charles Woodson and Reggie Bush. Fox said some of the replaced regular crew “will appear via remote.”
“In accordance with CDC guidance, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health safety guidelines — and out of an abundance of caution for our team — Sunday’s Fox NFL Kickoff and Fox NFL Sunday pregame shows from our Los Angeles studio will not include their regular casts,” Fox said in a statement.
The network did not say what caused the move, or whether anyone had caught the coronavirus.
Earlier in November, the entire on-air crew for Fox Sports’ college football pregame show Big Noon Kickoff was removed in a similar fashion, with Covid-19 concerns cited. The weekly show featured former players Matt Leinart,...

Fans of Richard Linklater’s “Before” trilogy have been wondering if the filmmaker, Ethan Hawke, and Julie Delpy will return for a fourth movie ever since the 2013 release of “Before Midnight.” While the wait for a new “Before” film continues, one fan decided to bring Jesse and Celine back to the screen by editing together recent online conversations featuring Hawke and Delpy into a fan-made fourth “Before” movie. The result is “Before the End.”
Running just over two minutes, “Before the End” combines interview footage of Hawke and Delpy from recent virtual discussions with Tiff to present Jesse and Celine side-by-side in quarantine. The short does not contain dialogue and sets Hawke and Delpy’s reaction shots to Kath Bloom’s song “Come Here,” which was featured in “Before Sunrise.” The goal of the short was to recreate the record booth scene from “Before Sunrise” within the new context of quarantines.

Who would have thought that a ’90s ‘slacker’ independent filmmaker would make such a strong romantic statement? Well, it’s not all romance in the old sense. In what must be a project of love, Richard Linklater examines the ongoing love life of Jesse & Céline, in three movies spread across eighteen years. The conversations are as free- flowing as are the cameras roaming through European back streets. Thanks to the commitment of Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke, the in-depth relationship seems real.

The striking similarities between Hitchcock and Welles’ Noir-tinged masterpieces.
(Spoilers for both films lurk below. Advance with care.)
When it was released in 1941, Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane was regarded as a wholly original film, one that broke the mold of American moviemaking and simultaneously introduced the auteur to American audiences. And while it is true that Kane holds a unique place in the history of film, it isn’t quite as original as many people give it credit for. It was, after all, modeled after the life, times, and persona of William Randolph Hearst, publishing magnate and self-appointed moral custodian of the early 20th century, but that’s just a narrative facet. Aesthetically, Welles might have borrowed a little from other sources as well, namely the Academy Award Winner for Best Picture from just the year before, 1940, Alfred Hitchcock’s Rebecca.
If you look at the opening and closing scenes in particular, the...

Some movies are famously bad because everybody and their grandmother saw them. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a good example. Others gain their notoriety from a sense of mystery, none more so than Jerry Lewis’ 1971 holocaust curio The Day the Clown Cried.
Made almost 45-years ago, The Day the Clown Cried follows a German clown sent to a concentration camp during WW2 for treason. There he becomes a sort of pied-piper, leading children to gas chambers and their resulting deaths. Sound a bit dodgy? Well, now you understand why it’s such a subject of infamy.
Adding to the movie’s legend is the fact it never received any sort of wide release, the sole copy of the film remaining in Lewis’ possession, hidden away due to its potentially offensive narrative. The comedian has been staunch about keeping it locked-up, but a report in The La Times suggests...

In 1971, slapstick auteur par excellence Jerry Lewis embarked on a sojourn to Sweden to film The Day the Clown Cried, a movie about a German clown named Helmut Doork who is forced to lead children into the Auschwitz gas chambers after he mocks Hitler. Lewis hated the film. After spending time hewing and splicing it, trying to no avail to fix what he considered to be an embarrassment to his artistry, he scrapped the project. Few people have seen the film, and its creator has repeatedly claimed the world will never see it, even after he dies, which has imbued the film with a mysterious aura. Some consider it the Holy Grail of lost comedies. That mysterious aura may soon be lifted. Embedded deep in a Los Angeles Times article on lost films is a fascinating little aside from Rob Stone, the moving-image curator at the Library of Congress: Stone...

Jerry Lewis’ 1972 Holocaust movie “The Day the Clown Cried” is one of the most famous unreleased films of all time. The comedian directed and stars as a German circus clown who’s forced by the Nazis to perform for Jewish children and lead them into the gas chambers at concentration camps. Over the years, Lewis has said he was both “embarrassed” by and “proud” of the film, which has been locked away for 43 years, but if you’re willing to wait another decade, you may just get a chance to see it. In an interview with its moving-image curator Rob Stone,...
