MTV doesn’t air as many music videos as they used to, but the MTV Video Music Awards are still one of the most anticipated music events of each year. However, while the Grammys are voted on by the industry insiders who make up the Recording Academy, the VMAs have been decided by fans since 2006 (except for below-the-line professional categories like Best Direction and Best Cinematography). So who are the biggest winners of all time at these awards? Scroll down to see the most honored artists in history.

Rock bands always have their fair share of ups and downs, with members coming and going; sometimes by choice, sometimes because they’re forced to. Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler got the boot from the band after he couldn’t keep up his side of a bargain to stay clean.
Steven Adler’s success with Guns N’ Roses was marred by his addiction to drugs and alcohol
Adler joined Guns N’ Roses in 1985, along with vocalist Axl Rose, lead guitarist Slash, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, and bass player Duff McKagan. The group played Los Angeles nightclubs before getting signed to Geffen Records in 1986.
Their debut album, Appetite for Destruction, was released the following year. It was a huge success and still sells copies today; to date, it has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling debut album of all time in the U.S.

In the parking lot of a Panera, just off I-95 in Stafford, Virginia, Rick Dunsford climbed into the passenger seat of a white Ford F-350 pick-up. Depending whose account you believe, he was holding either 12,000 or 15,000 in cash. It was late afternoon on a Friday in July 2019. Dunsford had been driving through the night, making stops along the way — in Charlotte, North Carolina, to pick up an associate, Madeline Rose; at his sister’s house in Virginia, to collect some of the money; and at a couple of different Wells-Fargo...

It took Guns N’ Roses less than a year to go from hard-rock paupers, targeted by L.A. street urchins with stuttering taunts of “Welcome to the jungle, you’re gonna die” (or, worse, “feel my serpentine?”), to become the Most Dangerous Band in the World. They were unprepared for fame. Their debut, 1987’s Appetite for Destruction, was crude and rude; its sci-fi cover illustration depicted a sexual assault, its lyrics reveled in misogyny and heroin abuse, one song (“Rocket Queen”) contained literal audio pornography, as a woman pants while...

Wolfgang Van Halen is playing a lot of Apex Legends at the moment, and just got engaged to his longtime girlfriend. Otherwise, besides hosting a monthly SiriusXM show, he’s enjoying a brief period of “doing nothing” after a long run of touring behind his well-received, years-in-the-making powerhouse of a debut album, Mammoth Wvh – also the name of his one-man band, which becomes an actual band on the road. Later this year, he’ll tour Europe for the first time, and is set to be a guest at two Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts,...

As far as blockbuster sequels go, Terminator 2: Judgment Day remains widely hailed as one of the best, having constructed a skillfully expanded spectacle without indulgently redefining the original premise. Yet, the film had to be sold to the public going into its July 3, 1991 wide release, which was nearly seven whole years after the first film cemented the superstardom of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Fortunately, a partnership with rockers Guns N’ Roses yielded a theme song in “You Could Be Mine” that would effectively convey the film’s intensity and attitude. Thirty years later, the song remains an indelible part of the revered sequel.
While fan-magazine-read sci-fi cinephiles saw Terminator 2 coming from the time the film’s tightly-scheduled principal photography commenced in October of 1990, the sequel was a surprise to the general public when its first teaser trailers ambushed big screen audiences. After all, this was a time before the prevalence...

If you watched John Mayer’s new music video for “Last Train Home” and kept expecting Axl Rose to snake-dance his way into the frame, it’s for good reason. The video is an homage to Guns N’ Roses’ summer of ’88 MTV staple, “Sweet Child o’ Mine.” Right down to a canine cameo.

For these keeping track, this is essentially the same reunion tour that launched back in 2016 and has already grossed more than half a billion dollars.

Guns N’ Roses did not arrive fully formed on L.A.’s Sunset Strip, howling “Sweet Child o’ Mine” with all the might and charisma that made the song a hit in 1988. They only achieved the proper cocktail of sensitivity and machismo after the five musicians in Gn’R’s classic lineup found each other in the mid-Eighties. Long before any of them had even dreamt of the songs on Appetite for Destruction, Indiana natives Axl Rose and guitarist Izzy Stradlin were cutting their teeth in the bands Axl, Hollywood Rose,...

The Rolling Stones will roll out their previously unreleased 1989 concert film Steel Wheels Live – Atlantic City, New Jersey on multiple formats on Sept. 25. The next day, Record Store Day’s second drop date of the year, they will also release a double A-sided 10” picture disc exclusively to independent record stores all over the world. The picture disc will include the singles “Almost Hear You Sigh” which was recorded live at the Tokyo Dome, and “Rock and a Hard Place,” which was recorded live from Atlantic City.
The whole world is currently stuck between a rock and a hard place. By the very definition of their name, the Rolling Stones should retain some wriggle room, but they can’t move mountains. Sometimes even a legendary band can’t get what they want. It’s not only the “people poorer than dirt who are caught in the crossfire.” In spite of a historic virtual live performance,...

Guns N’ Roses rolled out yet another leg of their reunion tour earlier this week that will bring them to stadiums across North America throughout the summer. They downgraded to arenas in America after the first leg of the tour in 2016, and filling 60,000 seat venues might seem like a tough task at this point, but they must have reason to think that the demand remains this high.

Here’s a shocker: Duff McKagan’s new solo album Tenderness, out today, is more country sounding than some mainstream Nashville releases joining it on record-store shelves. The Guns N’ Roses bassist embraced that rootsy, even twangy, vibe wholeheartedly when he kicked off his solo tour at Philadelphia’s Theatre of Living Arts on Thursday night.
Backed by Shooter Jennings, who produced Tenderness, and Jennings’ four-piece band, including fiddle player Aubrey Richmond, McKagan recreated the woke 11-song LP in its entirety and rewarded Gnr diehards with Use Your Illusion I deep cuts.

Early next month, Guns N’ Roses will kick off the 10th, and possibly final, leg of their Not in This Lifetime reunion tour. Many people thought that Slash and Axl Rose wouldn’t be able to share the stage for more than couple of weeks before the whole thing imploded, but amazingly enough it’s been well over two years and there hasn’t been even the tiniest sign of tension. After years of feuding, it looks as if the “old” Guns N’ Roses is back. Sort of. Even though they never really left… kind of. Look, they have a reunion coming up… partially, anyway.
Confused yet?
Pretty much every music fan not living under a particularly remote rock or the dark side of the moon for the past few decades knows the story of Guns N’ Roses. The huge debut, the excesses, the controversies, the membership changes and the eventual, complete implosion of the classic-era line-up. Steven Adler, Izzy Stradlin, Gilby Clarke (Stradlin’s original replacement), Slash, Duff McKagan – by the early 90s, they were dropping like flies. Come the late 90s, only singer Axl Rose and keyboardist Dizzy Reed remained, alongside a new group of musicians including The Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson.
While the most recent formation been the bands most stable in decades,...

Inevitably, Guns N’ Roses guitarist DJ Ashba must now be referred to as former Guns N’ Roses guitarist DJ Ashba. He joins a long list of axe-slingers to gain the “former” prefix, with everyone from Paul Tobias, to Slash, to Izzy Stradlin, to Buckethead, to Robin Finck, to Gilby Clarke joining and exiting the band over the years. There’s been a huge number of guest guitarists too, including Brian May and Dave Navarro, meaning that guitarists are to Gn’R what drummers were to Spinal Tap – disposable entities that change with the seasons.
Ashba had a decent innings. He was with the band for about 6 years, touring several times, although – in typical Gn’R fashion – he has yet to appear on an official studio release. Mainly because there hasn’t been one since 2008’s long-awaited Chinese Democracy. There’s no doubt that Ashba’s decision to leave...

Prepare to have your mind blown ... the most iconic Guns N' Roses song -- "Sweet Child O' Mine" -- was totally jacked from an Australian soft rock band ... maybe. Best known as the replacement guitarist for Guns N’ Roses founding member Izzy Stradlin; Gilby Clarke joined “the most dangerous band in the world” in May 1991 – just ten days shy of a sold out performance in New York’s Madison Square Garden. A talented guitarist in his own right he toured with the band for the entirety of their mammoth ‘Use Your Illusion’ World Tour as well as contributing his talents to Guns N’ Roses 1993 album ‘The Spaghetti Incident’
In 1994 Clarke launched his own solo album through Virgin Records entitled ‘Pawnshop Guitars’, arguably getting such big label interest for his first solo record because of the exposure earned in Gnr, which also came to an abrupt end in the same year when he was fired from the band. More than any other form of art/entertainment, your first impression in music counts for a lot. If it’s at least half-decent, then you’ll more than likely get another shot. If it’s a dud, well, then it’s curtains for ya, sunshine.

Ex-Guns N' Roses rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin has said that he is grateful that the band will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 'Welcome To The Jungle' band are to be saluted for their contributions to rock music at Cleveland's Public Hall tonight (April 14), but singer Axl Rose has announced that he won't attend. Rose penned a personal letter to Hall of Fame organizers this week to say that he will avoid an "awkward situation" by not appearing and also requested that he not be inducted "in absentia". London — Will Guns N' Roses reunite for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
Behind his dark glasses, hat and big hair, the group's former guitarist Slash is staying noncommittal on the subject.

Current Guns 'N Roses keyboardist Dizzy Reed has announced some rather exciting news for rock fans - Guns 'N Roses will be sort-of reuniting for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction April 14 at the Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
"I know that all the original band is going to be there," Reed tells Billboard. "I don't know exactly what's going to go down. It's one of those things I'm sure will all come together and be really cool. I'm just going to go in with a good attitude and a clear head and a grateful heart."
The original members include Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagen and Steven Adler. Just because they will be in attendance doesn't necessarily mean they'll pick up their instruments to perform, but it's a start at least. Especially since the group's differences are well known.

While this could possibly induce hysterical celebration for many fans, Reed did not specify that the group will perform together, rather that they’ll simply all appear. Fans have been clamoring for a proper reunion since the classic lineup of the group – Slash,...

The classic Guns N' Roses lineup will all attend the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it has been confirmed. Keyboard player Dizzy Reed suggested to Billboard that Axl Rose would be joined by Appetite for Destruction players Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler. "I know that all the original band is going to be there," Reed said. "I don't know exactly what's going to go down. "It's one of those things I'm sure will all come together and be really cool. I'm just going to go in with a good attitude and a clear head and a grateful heart." Reed, who joined the band in 1990, is the longest-standing member of Guns N' Roses aside from frontman Rose. Of whether he had discussed the ceremony with the singer, Reed said: "Honestly, (more)...

Guns N' Roses will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April and ahead of the ceremony, the band announced Monday (Jan. 30) that it will play three shows at small New York clubs in February to celebrate the induction, reports the New York Times.
But -- here's the key information -- the club dates will be performed by the current iteration of Guns N' Roses led by frontman Axl Rose, who owns the band name. He will not be joined by his ex-bandmates from classic Gn'r glory days -- guitarist Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler.
We're still pulling for a reunion, but still isn't clear who will be on hand at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when the band is inducted in April. Hey guys, if Black Sabbath can do it, dangit, you can, too.

All that's old is new again. Axl Rose and his revamped Guns N' Roses will revisit their beloved New York when they launch their Northeast tour in February.
In 2011, the band completed a sold-out international tour and will kick off 2012 with a series of intimate shows in the States, starting with New York. Beginning February 10, they will perform a three-show series in the city, the cornerstone of which will be at the club Webster Hall, which was originally called the Ritz. This is where Gn'r played one of their most famous concerts, "Live at the Ritz," in 1998. For their return, the venue will revert to its original name, complete with new signage and marquee, and fans can...

More than a quarter century after they brought hard rock back to the top of the heap, the original lineup of legendary Los Angeles band Guns N' Roses will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April. Guns were among the acts named on Wednesday as the Class of 2012, which includes fellow L.A. rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers, iconic New York rap trio the Beastie Boys, 1960s pop singer Laura Nyro, the Small Faces (and their later Rod Stewart-led incarnation, the Faces), as well as mellow 1960s singer Donovan.

New York — Welcome to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Guns N' Roses.
The seminal rock band of the late 1980s and early `90s, best known for hits like "Welcome to the Jungle," "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "November Rain," leads the 2012 class of inductees announced on Wednesday. Also making the cut is the hip-hop trio Beastie Boys; rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers; the late singer/songwriter Laura Nyro; Donovan; and influential British rock group The Small Faces/The Faces, which included Rod Stewart and Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood.
Nyro, who wrote such hits the 5th Dimension's "Wedding Bell Blues" and Blood Sweat & Tears' "When I Die," is the only female act to make it this time around. The hall passed on Donna Summer, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Heart and Rufus with Chaka Khan, who were on the ballot for 2012.

Duff McKagan has suggested that a Guns N' Roses reunion is still possible. The bassist joined Axl Rose's current version of Guns N' Roses during a concert in London last year, but it proved to be only a one-off reunion. McKagan said that a tour featuring Rose, guitarists Slash and Izzy Stradlin and drummer Steven Adler hasn't been discussed, but he won't rule out the possibility of a reunion. "Of course there's a chance. I don't know how real that chance is," McKagan told The AP. "It's [just] not something I ever write about or talk at home about or with any of those principal people (more)...

In spite of Guns N’ Roses’ legendary status, it’s as unlikely that the five original members will all publish memoirs as it is that they’ll reunite onstage. Even if Axl Rose eventually unburdens himself in print, it’s a pretty sure bet that drifter rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin will avoid inviting that dramatic attention into his life—much as he did in the years immediately subsequent to Appetite For Destruction. But charismatic lead guitarist/pop-culture fixture Slash and exiled, troubled drummer Steven Adler have recently shared their versions of a parallel life story (they grew up together in ...

Duff McKagan has rejected any suggestion that the original members of Guns N' Roses will reunite next year. The bassist dismissed reports that the Appetite For Destruction line-up of Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Steven Adler and himself would play the 2012 Super Bowl halftime show. McKagan told Rolling Stone: "That's bulls**t. Pure, unadulterated bulls**t. But it's a good story. You know, I heard it from my wife! 'Hey, you know the Super Bowl is asking you guys...'. Perhaps there's something in the air in Hollywood. Just as Courteney Cox has come out saying she and husband David Arquette are not divorcing, but on a "trial separation," former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash seems to have had second thoughts about ending his marriage as well.
According to TMZ, two months after filing for divorce from his wife of nine years, Perla Ferrar, the rocker has filed a request for dismissal in Los Angeles Superior Court. Slash, born Saul Hudson, filed divorce papers in late August, citing irreconcilable differences with Ferrar, with whom he has two boys, ages 6 and 8.
At the time, sources close to the couple, who had no prenup, said the divorce was expected to be "extremely acrimonious." The date of separation...

Slash has filed for divorce from his wife of nearly nine years, according to TMZ.
In documents filed Monday (August 30) in Los Angeles Superior Court, Slash (real name: Saul Hudson) cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for his split with wife Perla Ferrar. The couple, who were married in October 2001, have two boys, age 6 and 8, and Slash is asking for joint physical and legal custody.
TMZ reports that, according to the documents, Slash listed the date of separation as July 15, 2010, and is willing to pay Ferrar spousal support. But, the site adds, sources close to the couple say "the breakup is extremely acrimonious."
The couple also reportedly did not sign a prenuptial agreement.

Axl Rose has waged war against former Guns N' Roses manager Irving Azoff, accusing him of attempting to sabotage the rocker's career after he refused to reunite with the band's original members. Azoff, the CEO of management firm Front Line, originally filed suit against Rose in March, claiming the singer reneged on an oral agreement giving him 15 per cent of his earnings from a big money concert tour - a deal said to be worth $2 million.
But Rose has fired back at Azoff, accusing the music mogul of failing to properly promote the band's 2008 album "Chinese Democracy" in an alleged bid to force him to reform the original Guns N' Roses line-up. In legal papers filed in a Los Angeles court on Monday, May 17, the frontman also takes aim at his one-time manager for allegedly lying about a possible joint tour with fellow rock legends Van Halen and mishandling Guns N' Roses' tour dates,...

Ratings: *** This is it, the Guns N Roses re-union you have all been waiting for, with the exception of Axl Rose, of course. This album brings together the former members Steven Adler, Duff McKagan and Izzy Stradlin on various songs on the album. The icing on the cake is the vast array of guests who have all stepped in to lend their talents to the power songwriting talents of Slash. Look at the list, Ian Astbury (The Cult), Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Cornell, Adam Levine (Maroon 5), Dave Grohl, Kid Rock, Alice Cooper, Nicole Scherzinger, Andrew Stockdale (Wolfmother), Lemmy Killmister (Motorhead), ...

After years of toiling in some wildly successful rock bands (most notably Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver), Slash has finally made his way into the center of the spotlight with his first true solo album. It just debuted in third place on the Billboard album chart, moving over 60,000 copies in its first week on the strength of the behatted guitarist's non-stop promotion and the single "By the Sword" (a team-up with Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale.

The Vegas oddsmakers have the Indianapolis Colts as five point favorites heading into Sunday night's Super Bowl matchup against the New Orleans Saints. And, well, I'm inclined to believe them. Sure, Drew Brees and the Saints might be the 21st century version of "The Greatest Show on Turf," but the last time we checked, Super Bowl Xliv is being played on natural grass. Not to mention the fact that, at this stage in his career, we wouldn't bet against Peyton Manning if our lives depended on it. He's like the anti-Brett Favre.
Anyway, while reality seems to favor the Colts, we here at MTV News have are using another factor to determine who'll be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday: Music. Or, more specifically, the musicians that hail from each team's city. The only problem here is, well, the matchup is a little uneven. New Orleans has got music in its blood,...

Rockers Axl Rose and Slash have turned down deals worth "hundreds of millions" to reform the original Guns N' Roses line-up - because they still can't stand to be around one another. Drummer Stever Adler was the first of the original members of the rock group to leave - he was fired in 1990 after his drug habit spiralled out of control - and guitarist Slash quit the band in 1996 following a series of rows with Rose.
He went on to form his own successful band, Velvet Revolver, and has previously stated "one of the two of us would die" before a reunion could ever take place. Other members to have walked out include Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan.
And not even massive offers worth hundreds of millions of dollars have convinced the musicians to reunite - because Slash still remembers the feuding between him and Rose during their final concerts together.
