It looks like Johnny Depp and Edgar Wright may be teaming up to hunt the supernatural in Disney's adaptation of two 1970's telepics and the ABC series "Kolchak: The Night Stalker."
Deadline reports that Depp would potentially star as Carl Kolchak in "The Night Stalker." He's a hardboiled reporter who tackles stories that law enforcement doesn't want to touch. Most of the cases in the original tales involved monstrous creatures like vampires and zombies, but Kolchak also explored the dark world of witches and other occult mysteries. With the "Shaun of the Dead" director usually having a hand in the writing side of his projects, it'd be great to see Disney hand this responsibility over to Wright. No scribe has been named yet, though. The quirky stylings of the director and Depp should be fascinating to watch.
While we anticipate more news about this inspired collaboration, head past the break...

Ember Entertainment has acquired Night Wings, a vampire movie, for the U.S. We haven't heard about this title since 2010, so an update is welcome.
Director Dusan Strugar and writer Paul Birkett, who also penned Altitude, are responsible for the project which follows a red eye flight over the Atlantic. En route, a twelve-year-old boy tries to convince the crew that a vampire is among them, but no one believes him.
This will be Strugar's directorial debut. He's background is mostly in FX having worked on Pitch Black and Resident Evil.

Ember Entertainment has taken the U.S. distribution rights to Dusan Strugar's Night Wings (what a terrible title), a teen action thriller from Canadian indie producers Lucid Dreams and Julijette Inc, reports THR. The Inferno Entertainment division is also handling international sales for the genre pic, written by Paul Birkett, "about a 12 year-old boy on a redeye flight over the Atlantic trying to convince the flight crew that vampires are onboard the flight from Romania. Only one passenger believes the boy, a father seeking revenge for the loss of his son to the Count Radu vampire clan." Strugar is currently visual effects producer on the Chronicles of Riddick sequel. This Fright Night on a plane joins other high-flying thrillers over the past year from Altitude to Dark Flight 407, Quarantine 2: Terminal, Airborne and 7500.

An international flight is once again going to be terrorized by fanged fiends. But in the forthcoming teen thriller Night Wings, the threat isn’t venomous snakes. Oh, no. This time there are bloodsuckin’ vampires on this bloodsuckin’ plane!
The Hollywood Reporter brings news that Ember Entertainment has picked up distribution rights to the soon-to-be Canadian-produced vampires on a plane chiller Night Wings.
The film will mark the directorial debut of visual effects producer Dusan Strugar. His work can be seen in the Tomb Raider movies and the upcoming Chronicles of Riddick sequel.
Writer Paul Birkett must really love airplane monster movies seeing as how he also penned the 2010 airplane monster flick Altitude. He’s also the writer of three Syfy original movies set to premiere later this year.

Director Dusan Strugar and writer Paul Birkett, who's behind the upcoming Altitude , are taking to the skies for a new horror film. It's called Night Wing and follows a red eye flight over the Atlantic. En route, a twelve-year-old boy tries to convince the crew that a vampire is among them, but no one believes him. This will be Strugar's directorial debut. He's background is mostly in FX having worked on Pitch Black and Resident Evil . Night Wing sounds a bit like Drew McWeeny and Scott Swan's Bat Out of Hell , another tale of a vampire menacing a red eye flight.
