When I was a kid, I used to love a scary movie. I remember catching the original The Haunting (1963) one night on Channel 9’s Million Dollar Movie when I was home alone. Before it was over, I had every light in the house on. When my mother got home she was screaming she’d been able to see the house glowing from two blocks away. The only thing screaming louder than her was the electricity meter.
That was something of an accomplishment, scaring me like that. Oh, it’s not that I was hard to scare (I still don’t like going down into a dark cellar). But, in those days, the movies didn’t have much to scare you with. Back as far as the 50s, you might find your odd dismemberment and impaling, even an occasional decapitation, but, generally, the rule of the day was restraint. Even those rare dismemberments,...

Sexy former 'Desperate Housewives' star Eva Longoria (below) is the latest to join new horror 'Visions', just one of the many genre project currently on the go over at Blumhouse Productions. Longoria will be joining a host of familiar faces already on board the project that includes Isla Fisher ('Now You See Me'), Jim Parsons ('The Big Bang Theory'), Gillian Jacobs ('Community') and Ellen Barkin ('The New Normal'). With the line-up already it does have a very 'comedic' feel to it, so we wonder just how tongue-in-cheek perhaps the action may be. 'Saw VI' helmer Kevin Greutert will be behind the camera lensing from a script provided by Lucas Sussman ('Below')....

Over at Blumhouse Productions, Jason Blum is working away on a slew of buzzy horror projects, including sequels to his studio’s biggest hits (Sinister 2, Insidious: Chapter 3) and stand-alone flicks that he likely hopes can spark franchises (Ouija, Lazarus). Personally, I’m on already on the lookout for Visions, a Blumhouse pic that, despite its fairly generic premise, is building an increasingly promising cast. Now, Deadline is reporting that Desperate Housewives‘ Eva Longoria has climbed on board the project.
The actress joins Isla Fisher (Now You See Me), Gillian Jacobs (Community), and Anson Mount (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane) in the horror-thriller, which focuses on a pregnant wife (Fisher) who begins to suffer terrifying visions of a hooded figure when she moves to the countryside with her husband (Mount). Longoria will play Fisher’s best friend, a glamorous, funny and sarcastic city girl who disapproves of her friend’s life decisions.

One of the less well-known projects on horror super-producer Jason Blum’s docket is Visions, a low-budget horror thriller about expectant mother Julia (Isla Fisher), who becomes terrorized by horrific visions of a creepy hooded figure only she can see. Though that set-up probably doesn’t seem wholly unfamiliar to horror fans (see also: The Sixth Sense, The Eye, Final Destination, V/H/S/2), two recent casting reveals for Visions suddenly have me a lot more interested in the film. Anson Mount (AMC’s Hell on Wheels) and Gillian Jacobs (NBC’s Community) will both test out their horror chops with supporting roles.
Mount will portray Julia’s husband, who becomes increasingly worried about her mental state as the visions increase once the pair moves to the countryside. Meanwhile, Jacobs will take on the role of a woman who becomes fast friends with Julia. Both actors have a small amount...

If there's anyone in the genre to keep an eye on at the moment, it's Blumhouse Productions. Founded by Jason Blum, the company has been responsible for many horror hits and needless to say has built up more than enough credibility to warrant being excited about anything and everything they touch.
Up next from Blumhouse is a thriller called Visions, which will be directed by Kevin Greutert, who helmed the sixth and seventh installments in the Saw franchise.
As per Deadline, news has just come out of the American Film Market that Blumhouse is negotiating with Isla Fisher, Ellen Barkin, and Jim Parsons (pictured) to star in the thriller, which the company is selling at the event. Big name talent for their next paranormal outing, to say the least!

Exclusive: Blumhouse continues to refine its micro-budget genre formula, and it looks like one evolving factor is the casts are getting better. Jason Blum’s division is negotiating with Isla Fisher, Ellen Barkin and Jim Parsons to star in Visions, a Kevin Greutert-directed thriller that Blumhouse International is selling at Afm. In the Lucas Sussman-scripted film, a pregnant woman joins her husband at his vineyard home and begins to have unsettling visions that get increasingly more realistic and terrifying. Fisher’s coming off Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, Barkin is starring with Robert De Niro and Edgar Ramirez in the Roberto Duran pic Hands Of Stone, and Big Bang Theory‘s Parsons wrapped Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here. They are all repped by CAA. Barkin is additionally repped by Untitled after she signed there last week.

3.3 Fireflies
Tim Andrew has proven himself to be a really good television director during his time on Teen Wolf. It's easy to look at Russell Mulcahy and praise the look and feel of his episodes, but Andrew is definitely no slouch when it comes to generating tension and creating an overall feel for an episode. Set mostly at night, Andrew creates a great deal of tension during multiple scenes in the episode, but none more so than the very opening where the two adorable moppets are menaced by a rampaging, wolfed out Boyd. It's one of the better uses of horror on the show, matched only by the later scene of the girl in the tent hallucinating/being attacked by a horde of creepy,...
