Here's our story from yesterday...
Den Of Geek (that’s us) are long-time partners (well, a year or two) of the Big Issue magazine, and we contribute a weekly column to the publication, in exchange for some biscuits (that we buy ourselves). If you aren’t familiar with the work of The Big Issue, then please do check out their excellent work, here.
Last night, The Big Issue staged a special event, where Star Wars star and long-time fan of The Kinks Mark Hamill interviewed the band’s Ray Davies on stage.

Arsenal are one of the most successful clubs in the history of the Premier League. Three-time winners of the competition, it has been the home of numerous world class players such as Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Cesc Fabregas. However, whilst these names have lit up first Highbury and now the Emirates Stadium, there have been more than enough that would have appear more suited to the Championship rather than the Champions League. Players whose idea of free-flowing football was to stand to one side while their opponents run circles around them. Instead of a team of Invincibles, this is a collection of the Unconvincables.

In addition to two high-end dinners, President Obama's trip back to Chicago on Jan.11 will also include a fundraising concert that will likely attract younger voters.
Actor Hill Harper and R&B singer Janelle Monae have signed on to headline the Wednesday night concert at the University of Illinois-Chicago, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Tickets are priced from $44--possibly a nod to the "Gen 44" campaign team that organized the event--up to $1,000 for VIP access.
That same evening, media mogul Fred Eychaner is hosting a $38,500-per-couple private dinner for the President at his North Side home, NBC Chicago reports. A private reception is also scheduled at the Hyde Park home of Evonne and Stuart Taylor that evening, with ticket prices ranging between $7,000 and $20,000.
The Obamas' most recent Chicago appearance was First Lady Michelle Obama's fundraising visit in late October, the Chicago Tribune reports. She spoke at a Plumbers Hall...

Last night, I got to spend an evening at the BFI surrounded by dozens of amateur film-makers, all buzzing with excitement at making the shortlist for the 2010 Virgin Media Shorts Awards. In an auditorium packed with 450 cast, crew, journalists and judges, we got to see the 12 finalist entries all desperate to find out who would be crowed the 2010 champion.
The awards were hosted by Danny Wallace who did a wonderful job at keeping the audience entertained in between all of the 12 short movies that were shown on the giant screen in the BFI to rapturous applause. The 12 shorts were picked out of a massive 1600 entries by the judges of the competition which included Actress, Thandie Newton, Directors, Duncan Jones and Mike Newell, Film Critic James King, Executive Director of Digital Entertainment at Virgin Media, Cindy Rose, the Senior Production Executive at the UK Film Council, Chris Collins and finally, the VIP Judge,...
