If you’re a fan of Mel Gibson’s classic action flicks, be sure to stream them before they leave Max at the end of August.
All four “Lethal Weapon” movies and “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,” starring the late, great Tina Turner, will be leaving the streaming service. Luckily, you’ll have all month to watch them.
Watching the new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” animated movie in theaters? Max has several films featuring the radical reptilians: the live-action “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze” (1991)
and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III” (1993), as well as the animated “Tmnt” (2007).
Kaiju fans will want to check out “Godzilla” (2014), “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (2019), “King Kong” (1933) and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” (2012).
Finally, if horror is your thing, six “Hellraiser” films and “The Ring Two” make great summer scares.

John Dean doesn’t recall the exact date more than 50 years ago when he first met Martha Mitchell, but he remembers his impressions.
“The Attorney General [John Mitchell] used to have lunches every Wednesday for the senior staff, which I was a part of. He’d have them in his large conference room at the Department of Justice. And often Martha would attend those,” recalls Dean, the former White House Counsel under President Nixon, and a key figure in the Watergate coverup. “She was always a bright light in any room she walked into. She was vivacious, she was smart.”
There was a time, even before she became a kind of Watergate whistleblower, when seemingly all of America knew Martha Mitchell. The Arkansas charmer with the bulletproof beehive hairdo captivated the public with her remarkably outspoken manner. But that very quality, refusing to hold her tongue, would bring severe consequences,...

The BBC has announced that it is planning to make 450 people redundant across its workforce in the English regions as part of its latest round of cost-cutting.
The BBC needs to save £925M ($1.2B) by March 2022 as it grapples with the financial constraints of a license fee deal it struck in 2015 and a drop in income due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The 450 redundancies are part of BBC England’s £25M contribution to this overall target and represent 15% of its 3,000-strong workforce. Employees were informed on Thursday morning and will impact those working in TV, radio and online.
As part of the changes, regional affairs show Inside Out has been axed in favor of a weekly investigative journalism program, resulting in 29 redundancies. It follows the likes of Steven Knight, Ken Loach and Vicky McClure lobbying against changes to Inside Out. The BBC also plans to have just one presenter on regional news bulletins.

U.K. public service broadcaster the BBC will cut 450 jobs across English regional TV news, local radio and online news.
The cuts could save £25 million ($31.2 million) by 2022. In June, the BBC had offered some staff – those working in roles related to its “public service” commitments – the option of taking voluntary redundancy.
A BBC spokesperson told Variety at the time that the impact of the coronavirus pandemic meant the BBC needed to make £125 million ($141 million) of savings this financial year. A third of the corporation’s costs are from human resources.
The corporation had previously announced 450 redundancies that were subsequently put on hold. This fresh round of cuts are separate from that.
As part of the latest cull, seven of 20 presenters on 6.30 P.M. regional news bulletins will lose their jobs and some local radio shows will be canceled. Regional investigative journalism program “Inside Out” will be canceled and replaced by...

Updated: The longtime White House correspondent and columnist, who was also a familiar presence on TV talk shows and movies, died today. She was 92. She appeared as herself in the 1993 movie Dave, and in documentaries including Thank You, Mr. President: Helen Thomas At The White House, Broadcast Blues, Orwell Rolls In His Grave, and The Final Days. The daughter of Lebanese immigrants, Helen Thomas worked for 57 years at United Press International and covered presidents going back to John Kennedy. But she was probably best known for her role at televised presidential news conferences as the unofficial dean of the White House press corps. She would ask the first question — frequently a sharp challenge to an administration practice or policy — and end the news conferences by saying “Thank you, Mr. President.” Thomas also was a pioneer, becoming the first woman to serve as an officer of the National Press Club, to...

Comedians are literally paid to say provocative things, but typically even their most shocking material has been massaged down for maximum digestibility. But after two and a half seasons working on one of the most incisive and incendiary comedy shows in the last decade, "The Chappelle Show," Neal Brennan is bold even by normal standards of button-pushing. Even when he was offering his email address, whose slightly older portal I observed that we share, his response was, "yeah, fuck everybody!" Of course, that was at the end of a long interview in which he'd already offered quite a few observations and opinions some readers - much less colleagues - might find objectionable.
In this epic conversation with IFC, Brennan held nothing back as he discussed his comedic upbringing, his background as a writer and performer of race-sensitive (and let's face it, sometimes insensitive) material, the state of contemporary comedy, and...

Rabbi Nesenoff, whose video interview with Helen Thomas ended her career last week, is still making the media rounds. Only this weekend he seems slightly less enthralled with all the media attention than he did seven days ago. Nesenoff told Howie Kurtz that he has received over 25,000 pieces of hate mail (some of which you can read on his website), but even worse he has been learning about the "hate media." Get out the violins folks!

HollywoodNews.com: It’s very sad that the amazing career of Helen Thomas came to an end this week following controversial remarks the 89-year-old Washington D.C. journalism icon made regarding Jewish people in Israel.
After a YouTube video of Helen saying Israeli’s should “get the hell out of Palestine” and suggested they go to Germany or Poland, she issued an apology saying she “deeply regretted” her comments and said: They do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon.”
But it was too late to save her job.
Rosie O’Donnell has been one of the few people to speak out in defense of Helen who had covered every president dating back to the later years of the Eisenhower administration.

Helen Thomas expressed a cockeyed and impractical position about Israel—one held by much of the world—and lost her job because of it. This is a boring story as all stories about Helen Thomas tend to be, and I take it up now with some regret—but, alas, she has become, once again, more meaningful than she ought to be. But before getting to Helen Thomas, let’s register the Tony Judt piece on the op-ed page in yesterday’s New York Times. It is everything that Helen Thomas probably meant to say. It is what many people mean to say when they try to express their stupefaction that, in the course of two generations, Israel has not meaningfully altered its geo-political relationships. It is as succinct and as useful a deconstruction of what’s wrong with Israel and Israelis as may exist. Judt, however, has not lost his job.

Now that retired White House correspondent Helen Thomas' front row seat in the White House press room is up for grabs, reporters are jockeying for the coveted seat; Fox News and Bloomberg are already battling it out to move up to the front row.
Jon Stewart skewered reporters for the journalistic version of musical chairs on Wednesday's edition of 'The Daily Show' (weeknights, 11Pm Et on Com). "Maybe you think if you're upfront the president might invite you on stage like Courteney Cox at a Bruce Springsteen concert?" Stewart quipped. "Fighting it out to see who sits shotgun in the briefing room? Are you journalists or are you rushing a sorority?"
"These are the hard questions reporters must be asking themselves," Stewart said. Oh those kids!

The Helen Thomas controversy rages on. Less than a week after a video of the legendary White House correspondent saying she thought the Jews should "get the hell out of Palestine" and go back to Germany and Poland the debate has recently turned from who will get Thomas' much coveted White House press briefing room seat to whether the "Helen Thomas" nameplate on the seat should be removed.

Rosie O'Donnell spent part of her radio broadcast yesterday defending the recent controversial comments made by Helen Thomas (which lead to her retirement.) The former talk show host (who has been called by some as "the next Oprah") wondered how Thomas comments could be viewed as "hate speech," then proceeded to interpret what Thomas really meant when she said that "Jews should go back to Germany."...

On last night's Daily Show, host Jon Stewart (or as I like to call him, "Respectable #37") eviscerated the White House Press Corps over what he calls "jockeying" for Helen Thomas' front row seat, the Biden BBQ Brouhaha, and the quality of their questions. While the bit was hilarious (I especially loved the reference to whammy-rific game show "Press Your Luck"), I would like to point out a few things.

Rabbi David Nesenoff is now famous for two things: recording the anti-Israeli rant that ended White House columnist Helen Thomas' career, and starring in a strange viral video where he made some ethnic jokes while giving the weather. It's for the latter claim to fame that Nesenoff landed the silver in today's Countdown "Worst Persons in the World" anti-contest, because while prompting Thomas' retirement, Nesenoff didn't "exactly have clean hands."...

Although it just happened Monday, it seems like ages since Helen Thomas abruptly retired following a firestorm over comments she made about the Middle East. While speculation began immediately over who would end up in Helen's front row center seat in the briefing room, a clear consensus among White House reporters has taken shape: looks like Fox News' Major Garrett might be the big winner...

Oh, how I miss the days when Helen Thomas was known as that sweet old White House correspondent who always got to ask the first question at press conferences. You know, before she told RabbiLIVE.com at the May 27 Jewish Heritage Celebration that Jewish people should “get the hell out of Palestine…Go home. Poland. Germany. And America and everywhere else.” But, as evidenced by this 2009 report from The Daily Show’s John Oliver (watch it after the jump), Thomas just likes to tell people to go home, guys! Said Thomas to Oliver after he asked about Obama’s work-out schedule,...

David Nesenoff -- the YouTube-savvy rabbi whose impromptu interview with Helen Thomas sparked the controversial comments about Israel that led to her forced retirement -- has posted the entire interview online.
It runs about two minutes, and contains no new shocking comments or revelations. It does, however, confirm the fact that Thomas was not baited into suggesting Israelis "get the hell out of Palestine."
Meanwhile, there's already much talk in Washington about who will get Thomas' longtime front-and-center seat at White House press briefings.

Helen Thomas takes notes during an informal press briefing with President Gerald Ford, 1976. (Yes, that’s chief of staff Dick Cheney looking on at the far left.) Photo from the Library of Congress. I am old enough to have been present in the White House Briefing Room not quite 15 years ago, when Helen Thomas celebrated her 75th birthday. She was, even then, the oldest workhorse on the beat—25 years older than I am now. It was a proud moment for the free press, for the pioneering role that Helen played for women in journalism, and for that beleaguered tribe whose principal duty it was (and is) to chronicle the presidency from one of the worst possible perches on which to view it: the White House itself. When I first came to Washington, on behalf of The New York Times, at the end of 1993, a very wise man named Max Frankel (who happened,...

hollywoodnews.com: The full video with Helen Thomas is not that much longer than the original. But Rabbi David Nesenoff has put up the full one minute and fifty eight seconds.
After the 89 year old tells him the Jews should return to Poland or Germany, Nesenoff asks Thomas if she’s familiar with the Palestinian religion. She answers in the affirmative. “Very much. I’m of Arab background.
More poignantly, Nesenoff asks Thomas whether she’d recommend journalism as a career to his son and the son’s friend, who are standing there wearing yarmulkes. “Go for journalism,” she tells the young men as she walks away. “You’ll never regret it.”
The story of Thomas’s downfall this week is one that will not soon be forgotten. It boggles the mind that she managed to go so long in the White House press corps, where her opinions were apparently well known,...

Veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas has retired at 89 after some career-ending proverbial foot-in-mouth comments.
Thomas was captured on video making some controversial Anti-Jew remarks during an interview with RabbiLive.com's Rabbi David Nesenoff -- namely that Jews need to "get the hell out of Palestine" and return to Poland and Germany. While the comments were made in late May, trouble started brewing for Thomas when the video emerged online late last week.
On Monday (June 7) morning, Hearst Newspapers (Thomas' employer), released a statement announcing her retirement.
"Helen Thomas announced Monday that she is retiring, effective immediately," reads the statement. "Her decision came after her controversial comments about Israel and the Palestinians were captured on videotape and widely disseminated on the Internet."

Helen Thomas, 200-year-old Hearst White House correspondent, has just given word that she will be retiring, effective immediately. The announcement comes on the heels of a fatal interview in which Thomas told RabbiLive.com that Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine” and return to Poland, Germany, and the United States.
