Back in February, we learned that Lionsgate is giving writer/director Rob Zombie‘s feature debut House of 1000 Corpses (watch it Here) a new Blu-ray release to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary on April 11th. There will be a standard edition of the House of 1000 Corpses 20th anniversary Blu-ray and a steelbook edition that will be exclusive to Best Buy. Both editions will include a disc that’s full of new bonus features, but a New Director’s Commentary will only be accessible on digital platforms. Zombie took to Instagram to reveal that he was recording that new commentary yesterday.

I grew up in rural Virginia. Numerous un-huggable critters roam the woodlands, and it's not unusual to encounter snakes, leeches, and swarms of mosquitoes. But none of these hold quite as much power as the tick. I have seen grown men – mannish men who like cars and sports and hunting stuff – reduced to pale, quivering blobs because a single tick burrowed neck-deep into their apparently tender flesh. I have come to know ticks as one of the great fear equalizers: no matter how tough you are, all bets are off when ticks come into play. In 1993, executive producer Brian Yuzna (Re-Animator) and director Tony Randel (Hellbound: Hellraiser II) created a now hard-to-find flick about these bloodsucking beasts. Welcome to this week’s installment of The Unseen: Ticks (a.k.a. Infested, a.k.a. C2). Ticks (which is the title I have always known it as) received a lot of...

Now that The Lords of Salem has opened in select theaters nationwide and reviews have begun rolling in, the question on many viewers' minds is: "What exactly was Rob Zombie thinking?"
The film has polarized Zombie's usual audience; it relies heavily on influence from European horror cinema and strange, disjointed visuals, making it feel in some places more like a feature-length music video than a coherent story, and those expecting a return to House of 1000 Corpses from the musician-turned-filmmaker may be in for a surprise. But what does Rob himself have to say about the film's strangeness? Planet Fury had a chance to sit down with him at SXSW 2013 and gain a little insight from the man behind the madness.

Today sees the limited release of Rob Zombie's The Lords of Salem, which means we've reached part five of this five-part retrospective which began with Zombie's 2003 feature House of 1000 Corpses. I hope you've enjoyed this look back at Zombie's career as much as I enjoyed interviewing him and writing about it. If you haven't already, please give the previous installments in this series a look, I've included all the links at the bottom of this final post. The Lords of Salem Zombie's newest film is The Lords of Salem, an exceedingly moody slice of psychedelic blasphemy. Never one to make the same film twice, Zombie's latest opus represents an evolution toward more cerebral, yet equally visceral scares. Relying less on hulking or twisted degenerates to deliver the shocks, Lords has a decidedly feminine bent to its particular brand of creeping menace. It also is his first film to...

Fangoria had the pleasure of attending opening night, and it is an amazing display you don’t want to miss. The show covers several floors and ranges from storyboards to classic water color to sculptures, all focused around classic monsters. Best of all, its free! Plus, the curator of all this fine artwork is Halloween Town co-owner and veteran FX artist Wayne Toth (who’s worked on everything from Army Of Darkness to Rob Zombie’s latest, The Lords Of Salem).
Prints of many of the pieces are available for purchase. I even picked up an adorable print of an adolescent Creature from the Black Lagoon for our nursery.

Although it had been previously mentioned that The Lords of Salem could be released later this year, we weren’t sure if that would be the case after Rob Zombie took a post-production break to go on tour. However, the film is set to premiere this September, and if you live anywhere near Toronto, you can check it out for yourself during the Toronto International Film Festival.

Rob Zombie took a little break from The Lords of Salem during his recent tour, but is back to work and hoping to have it wrapped up by the end of August. During a recent interview he provided a status update and let fans know to expect more of a psychological horror film:
Where are you at with The Lords of Salem?
I’m in the final stages of finishing the film. By the end of August, we’ll be done. The sound designers are still creating some of the sound effects for the movie. Once they’re done, I’ll go into the mix stage in August and mix the final sound for the movie. Then, I’ll be done.
In Halloween II, you traversed darker, dreamier territory. Are you going down that psychological road further with The Lords of Salem? The Devil’s Rejects and House of 1000 Corpses are more visceral.

Rob Zombie has posted a behind-the-scenes image from the workshop of Wayne Toth who created the effects and goodies for The Lords Of Salem, which is now in post-production. From what I can make out, these look like musical instruments, which goes with the plot of conjuring "witches" at a club. Maybe the band uses these instruments in their performance? "The story is about a local DJ who mistakenly unleashes a hellish curse on the town. 300 years earlier on the very streets of Salem that the townspeople walk on today, innocent folks were rounded up from their homes, convicted of being witches and sentenced to death. The Lords of Salem ran the town with an iron fist, but four witches who were tortured and killed in secrecy vowed that one day they would be back for revenge. "...

Via his Facebook page , Rob Zombie posted the following image: Yet another snapshot from the FX shop of Wayne Toth. "What the hell is going on now at Lords of Salem SFX Shop? Each day is stranger the the last," Zombie writes. I can identify who the man in the body cast is (any help is appreciated), but he's clearly in the early stages of getting outfitted for a body prosthetic. For the last few months, Zombie has provided similar FX photo teases in anticipation of Lords of Salem 's principal photography start, which is due sometime this fall. Rob Zombie has been teasing fans with FX photos of his latest original film, Lords of Salem, and on his official site, he released a prop from the film which could be the worst chair to ever sit in.
“Hot off the press! Here is a look at a new bit of nasty Lords Of Salem business straight from Wayne Toth’s SFX shop. I wonder who’s sitting on that thing?” Zombie jokes.
Looks painful. Interesting more in the film?...

The Devil's Rejects director has unveiled another prop from his upcoming -- yet recently delayed -- Salem witches revenge film: a torture device that he refers to as "the chair of god." Rob Zombie has checked in from Wayne Toth's FX shop with a picture of a terrifying device that is likely to be applied in his upcoming movie as a torture device used on or by the three witches. "I wonder who's sitting on that thing?" wrote Zombie. Lords of Salem is due for release in early 2012 and centers around a DJ in Salem who unleashes a horde of demonic minions after she plays a cursed record. Rob Zombie will direct the film from a script that he also wrote. The producing team of the Paranormal Activity franchise are backing Zombie up.

Rob Zombie has blogged yet again about Lords of Salem . He has checked in to Wayne Toth's FX shop and reported back with another new image he calls the "Chair of God." "I wonder who's sitting on that thing?" he writes. Between this mask and the chair, I think we're going to see the eponymous Lords (a trio of witches) suffer in these devices, or they'll be using them on their victims. Shooting begins this fall on the film. Click here for story details.

Rob Zombie has always been a staunch supporter of practical FX in all of his on-screen efforts, relying on the craftsmanship of Wayne Toth and his team. Lords of Salem will not be any different. Answering questions via his blog, Zombie tells his fans that, "At this time there are no plans to use any CGI in Lords. I am not a fan of it although I think it can be very effective it used in very subtle ways. But no one uses it that way." He goes on to add, "We have begun working, but not shooting yet. No one is on board yet, but casting will start very soon." Zombie has been updating from Toth's FX shop and...
