John Travers was born in New Orleans, LA and raised in Westport,
Connecticut. Son of novelist Robert Travers and half-brother of
singer Mary Travers (of folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary), Travers began making
films at the age of eleven. His professional career began in high
school, working as Production Assistant for "Friday the 13th" director
Sean Cunningham and producer Steve Miner.
At University of Bridgeport film school, Travers won the first place
American Cinema Editors' Student "Eddie" award; two years later he won
the coveted Student Academy Award, also first place, for
his 44-minute thesis film, "Jenny."
He has edited 16 feature films, as well as TV series, documentaries, trailers, music
videos and commercials.
"Never Surrender: The Ed Ramsey Story" - John Travers was both writer and film editor on this documentary just before his death. The producer's have dedicated this film in his memory.
