Inducted into L'Académie française in 1959, making him the most longstanding member to date.
Is survived by his two children.
Never returned to his homeland of Russia, preferring instead to keep alive the Russia of his childhood memories and dreams.
Published his final novel, La Traque, when he was 94. He has published over 100 works in his career.
Recipient of France's highest Legion of Honor ranking, the Grand-Croix or Grand Cross.
