Super Bowl Lv drew 96.4 million total multiplatform viewers on Sunday, when 2021’s big game aired on CBS. That all-in tally was the lowest since 2007. It includes a ton of platforms: the CBS Television Network (which brought in 91.629 million of those viewers), CBS Sports and NFL digital properties, Buccaneers and Chiefs mobile properties, Verizon Media mobile properties and ESPN Deportes television and digital properties.
Despite the marquee quarterback matchup, Super Bowl Lv was a pretty boring game. It was mostly noncompetitive, and the Kansas City Chiefs played sloppily. Tom Brady, who was named the game’s Mvp, threw for just 201 yards in the winning effort. He had three touchdown passes (two to former New England Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski) to zero interceptions. That was more than enough for the comfortable 31-9 victory.

The widow of famed actor/dancer Gene Kelly has leaped into the fray regarding Lara Spencer’s comments on ballet.
Patricia Ward Kelly responded in an open letter after Spencer, the Good Morning America host, mocked young Prince George over his ballet lessons, holding back laughter at the prospect of the six-year-old dancing.
“In 1958, my late husband, the dancer, director, choreographer Gene Kelly, decided to take on the stigma facing male dancers in an Omnibus television program for NBC that he created and starred in called Dancing, A Man’s Game,” wrote Ward Kelly. “Gene would be devastated to know that 61 years after his ground-breaking work, the issue of boys and men dancing is still the subject of ridicule—and on a national network,.” She concluded: “ABC must do better.”
Spencer has apologized for her remarks made during a Thursday morning segment. She said during the segment that George, the...

Today, the zombies from George A. Romero's classic 1960s horror film rise once again in ten separate first issues of Double Take's Ultimate Night of the Living Dead comic book series. Daily Dead recently chatted with Jeff McComsey, writer of Z-Men and Rise, who discussed expanding on Romero's living dead world, further exploring the characters of Johnny and Barbara, and much more.
Do you have fond memories of watching Romero's Night of the Living Dead in your formative years?
Jeff McComsey: I saw it at a pretty young age, probably in the mid-’90s. I remember we rented it on VHS and watched it a couple of times. It wasn’t until I was in college and we watched a bunch of old movies when we really got into it. And now since I’ve watched it professionally, I’m still impressed with what Romero did.

On a cold night in January, George R.R. Martin sits inside the Jean Cocteau Cinema, a revival theater that he owns in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he has lived since 1979. The Cinema had been showing the first three seasons of HBO's megahit series Game of Thrones, which is based on Martin's still-in-the-works saga A Song of Ice and Fire. After viewing the ninth episode, "Baelor," in which the story's apparent hero, Ned Stark, is unexpectedly beheaded, with the screen falling to black, Martin sits quietly for several moments,...

Ask ten different people who they think is the greatest quarterback of all time and you will likely get ten different answers. Some might say Tom Brady, others might say Johnny Unitas. Ask those same ten people what defines greatness in a quarterback and you may get another ten answers. Some may say it’s the statistics, the touchdown passes, the yards thrown. Some may say it’s the number of Mvp awards. Others will likely say the only thing that matters is the Super Bowl victories, the only thing that matters is the rings.
Quarterback may be one of the hardest positions in professional sports. There are so many skills one must possess and perfect. A great quarterback must have an outstanding arm. But it’s not just the power to throw far, it’s the combination of strength and pinpoint accuracy required...

With a new NFL season starting up, we take a look at the best fictional quarterbacks in TV and film history.
It's become almost an annual rite of passage to root against Tom Brady. I mean, look at him, the handsome man who spent a pre-Super Bowl press conference a few years ago rambling on about ball preference. I don’t care how old you are, Brady talking about people preferring “old balls” is pretty hilarious. He won his sixth Super Bowl in 2019, the most ever by any NFL player, and continues to give us reason to root against him by being so damn good.
Brady's career seems like it's taken right out of a film script, either a drama about a diabolical ego-maniac so possessed with winning that he’s been creatively cheating for years, or a feel-good-story about a diamond in the rough...

I didn’t hear any sounds of combat, so I thought you might need a drink.
The 1950’s may be my favorite decade for films. It’s the heyday of Hitchcock and Wilder and a whole host of directors that have been wholly or virtually forgotten. It’s also the time of the reflective war film. Compared with most World War II films that came before (and after) From Here to Eternity glorifies individuality and personal integrity in opposition to institutions. The 50’s are understood to be strait-laced and uncontroversial. Johnny Unitas comes to mind. And yet, it’s also the time of the Beatniks, Catcher in the Rye, and the beginnings of rock and roll. From Here to Eternity fits well into the 50’s of Rebel Without a Cause (1955) and, like that film, belongs in the “the good old days weren’t always good” category. Korea had shown that...

On Sunday, The Good Wife closes its fourth season with a finale that Josh Charles promises will set the show up nicely for the fall. “Things are gonna get very complicated, in a good way,” he says. We believe him: There’s that promo that shows Diane (Christine Baranski) busting Will (Charles) and Alicia (Julianna Margulies) in a liplock. We know Cary (Matt Czuchry) continues maneuvering to start his own firm. And Alicia, Will, and Diane face off against Patti Nyholm (Martha Plimpton), in front of Judge Abernathy (Denis O’Hare), in a series of emergency court proceedings after Zach...

Baltimore -- Joe Flacco as Johnny Unitas.
The Ravens' quarterback says he'll play the part of Baltimore's greatest quarterback, former Colts star Johnny Unitas, in an upcoming movie entitled "Unitas We Stand."
The movie is being co-produced by Joe Unitas, the late quarterback's son.
He tells Wbal-tv that Flacco will portray Unitas in scenes of the 1958 NFL championship game, in which Unitas led the Colts to victory over the New York Giants. The game at Yankee Stadium ended in sudden-death overtime and has been called the greatest NFL game ever played.
Flacco, who led the Ravens to a Super Bowl victory in February and was the game's Mvp, said on Twitter that he's excited by the opportunity.
Filming is scheduled to start this summer.

Bigger Than the Sound takes a look back at 21's rather remarkable ride on the one-year anniversary of its release in the U.S.

Back in olde tymes, if something was a hallmark of consistency and dependability, it was proclaimed to be "so reliable you could set your watch to it."
This was high praise, and not just because watches were, like, the iPhones of their day (minus "Angry Birds," of course). No, there was a time when reliability was actually celebrated in this country, and everything unerring, unchanging or uninterrupted — from Studebakers to Johnny Unitas' haircut — was thusly awarded watch-setting status.
Not surprisingly, that's not exactly how things work anymore. Although, one could make the argument that Adele is doing her best to bring reliability off the back burner (back burners were also fairly common back then,...
