Plan 9 From Outer Space? Not exactly. This 9 was planned from Earth by first-time feature director Shane Acker, who spent nearly 10 years plotting this project, which was originally conceived as his thesis film at the University of California. It took over four years, but Acker finally completed the 11-minute short, which he then decided to alter and expand into a full-length movie. The director probably didn’t plan on spending this much time realizing his vision, but he certainly didn’t mind spending time with Starlog chatting up his CG-animated adventure about a group of nine tiny rag dolls who awake to a post-apocalyptic Earth where humans are extinct, fearsome machines pursue them and civilization’s future lies in their hands. It premieres, appropriately, on 9/9/09.
Starlog got a chance to catch a sneak preview of the film, which is visually stunning and showcases spectacular CG-animation and a truly haunting, mesmerizing post-apocalyptic Earth.
