Is Steven Van Zandt content with having spent much of his career in what might have been perceived a sidekick role? The answer is yes, he told Bruce Springsteen during a chat between the two that was webcast Tuesday evening. And maybe that’s just the sort of thing you’d be expected to tell the boss… or the Boss. But this applied not only to Van Zandt’s longstanding stint with Springsteen’s E Street Band but also to his role on “The Sopranos,” since, in a parallel television universe, the role of Tony Soprano might have gone to Van Zandt.
The actor-guitarist’s most-valuable-supporting-player parts in two of the great pop-culture phenomena of our lifetimes came up in a conversation celebrating the publication of Van Zandt’s new memoir, “Unrequited Infatuations: Odyssey of a Rock and Roll Consigliere (A Cautionary Tale).” The two rockers also discussed the social...

Joseph Siravo, best known for his roles as Tony Soprano’s father in The Sopranos, Fred Goldman in American Crime Story: The People v O.J. Simpson and stage musical Jersey Boys, has died, according to family. He was 66.
Siravo died Sunday after a long battle with cancer. The BBC quoted his daughter Allegra Okarmus, who wrote on Instagram: “I was by his side when my dear father passed away this morning, peacefully, in his beloved Treehouse. We are both so lucky to be so intensely loved. I am so immensely grateful to have had him here on earth and I know that he hasn’t gone very far.”
Siravo’s character in HBO smash The Sopranos appeared in flashbacks to the 1960s as Tony’s father, Johnny, with whom he had a difficult relationship.
On stage, he clocked up more than 2,000 performances as character Gyp DeCarlo in the first U.

The cast of one of the most memorable shows in television history, HBO’s The Sopranos, reunited tonight for a special table read to benefit actor and former fireman Steve Buscemi’s favorite charity, Friends of Firefighters.
Highlighting the gathering was a cast read of a brand-new sketch cowritten by series creator David Chase and longtime writer/executive producer Terence Winter.
Titled “Bada Bing, Bada Zoom,” the sketch had cast members reuniting for an online group therapy session with Dr. Jennifer Melfi, the therapist who coaxed Tony Soprano (the late James Gandolfini) through many difficult moments on the series.
The entire webcast, along with the sketch, is available online here.
The 2.5-hour reunion raised more than $100,000 for Friends of Firefighters, slightly more than its goal. There will be a follow-up gathering chaired by Buscemi later this month with some different celebrity friends (see below for details) for the same charity.

Steve Van Zandt first met Little Richard when the guitarist was on the oldies circuit as a young backing musician for the Dovells in 1973. Van Zandt would eventually take on a nickname, Little Steven, that was at least in part a tribute to one of his greatest rock & roll heroes, and enlisted Little Richard to officiate at his wedding to Maureen Van Zandt in 1982 (Little Richard went on to preside at ceremonies for Tom Petty, Bruce Willis/Demi Moore, and Cyndi Lauper, among others). Could Harry Styles be the perfect Prince Eric? One day after the announcement that the One Direction star is “in early negotiations to play the iconic ‘Little Mermaid’ role,” the internet exploded with speculation as to how he would portray the object of Ariel’s affections.
“I can see lots of reasons why Harry is perfect,” says actress Maureen Van Zandt. “Eric is royalty and loves to sail and handle working class duties on the boat. Harry is pop royalty, but he’s really a boy from a working class background, and I’m sure, like The Beatles, he’d never let go of that. And, let’s face it, he’s gorgeous – as a fairy tale prince should be.”
Here are a few more reasons why Styles would rock the role:
He can really act: When Styles auditioned for the role of Alex in Christopher Nolan’s drama, “Dunkirk,...

Welcome to the eighth installment of our summer trip through "The Sopranos" season 1. When I revisited early seasons of "The Wire," as well as the whole run of "Deadwood," I did separate versions of each review for newcomers and veterans, but over time realized that the newcomers weren't commenting much, if at all, and that it therefore made sense to simply do one review. Any significant spoilers for episodes beyond the one being reviewed will be contained in a separate section at the end of the review; so long as you avoid that, and the comments, you should be fine. Thoughts on the eighth episode, “The Legend of Tennessee Moltisanti," coming up just as soon as I devote my energies to the dignity of Connie Francis... "Where's my arc?" -Christopher And here we come to the meta — before it was even 100% meta. "The Sopranos" quickly became a hit for HBO...

Lilyhammer's 'gangster on the lam in a remote Norwegian town' story is a quirky, comic gem that richly deserves a fourth season...
Lilyhammer’s third season arrived on Netflix last November, bolder, bloodier and sillier than ever. The most recent batch of episodes, boasting a budget bigger than Norway’s Gdp, catapulted viewers from the cold climes of Scandinavia to the tropical slums of Rio de Janeiro and back again, with a few stop-offs in New York along the way. There was murder, intrigue, Islamic terrorism, a dying whale, a mafia cookbook, drug-running, a big-budget Brazilian telenovela, reindeer racing and of course the requisite explosions, gun fights and fist fights that are now a permanent staple of life in the quiet and quaint little town of Lillehammer. There was also a finale that featured one of the more bizarre cliff-hangers in modern television history: a bludgeoned breast-crazed maniac lying...

hollywoodnews.com: What a night for Ringo Starr: Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono put aside their usual differences and surprised the ex Beatle on stage at Radio City Music Hall for his 70th birthday on Wednesday night.
McCartney was a total surprise to Starr–he appeared at the end of show, strapped on a guitar and launched Ringo’s band into the Beatles’ “Birthday.” It was historic since the Fab Four never played the song live anywhere. Tonight, Ringo played drums and Radio City was like Shea Stadium in 1966. McCartney was spot-on, too. Brilliant.
