Channing Tatum’s Free Association and Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment are going to The Maxx with their latest project. The partnership is developing the reality-bending superhero saga called The Maxx for a live-action adaptation .
The title character of The Maxx is a masked hero who protects the Jungle Queen in the Outback, a realm that resembles primordial Australia, but he also exists in our world as a homeless man whose masked face and fantastical mutterings are dismissed as mental illness.
The Maxx was created by writer and artist Sam Kieth and published first in 1993 by Image Comics but the brand’s widest reach was with the award-winning animated adventures that aired on MTV’s Oddities in 1995. The Annie Award-winning adaption melded traditional animation, CG craft, and live-action interstitial content in an off-kilter amalgam that suited the story’s surreal premise (which at times evoked Terry Gilliam’s The Fisher King...

In today’s film news roundup, Channing Tatum and Roy Lee are developing “The Maxx,” Leslie Uggams has joined “The Ravine” and Safehouse Pictures is expanding.
Project Launch
Channing Tatum and Roy Lee are teaming up to produce a movie or television show based on the Image Comics series “The Maxx.”
Tatum will produce through his Free Association, along with principals Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan. Lee will produce though his Vertigo Entertainment. Sam Kieth, who created the series in the 1990s, will also produce with partner Tal Vigderson.
The Maxx appears in both the real world as a homeless man and in an alternate reality as a powerful masked character protecting the Jungle Queen — who’s also a social worker named Julie Winters who frequently works to help the homeless man. The comic led to a 13-episode cartoon series on MTV, which won an Annie Award for best animated series.

Glenn Beck has long prided himself as a comedian, and his critics have often lampooned him as a cartoon. So I suppose it makes perfect sense that Gbtv, his live streaming video network, is developing a new animated comedy series. Gbtv and Icebox, which boasts writers who’ve worked on shows including The Simpsons, South Park, and King of the Hill, are currently discussing various concepts. “Many of our writers welcome the opportunity to create shows the whole family can watch,” Tal Vigderson, Icebox’s managing director, said in a statement. “This venture lets us take a little break from shocking and offending our audience.

Nikki Finke has finally opened up--to a degree--about an agreement between her and the producers of the HBO show Tilda, which stars Diane Keaton as a Hollywood blogger based on Finke. There is an agreement now in place among myself, Deadline's parent company Mmc, and Watski productions (which is producing the Tilda pilot) negotiated solely on my behalf by attorney Tal Vigderson. I still have no creative or consulting involvement with the show nor wanted any. I still won't write about the show. And Deadline.com journalists can still write whatever they want about the show. There are significant differences from the Tilda pilot script and Finke. She does leave her house, meets people for meals, and doesn't drink or do drugs. But Finke's post leaves out ...

Internet video network GoFish is partnering with online production studio Icebox on a new made-for-Internet series that casts a satirical look at celebrity life.
Dubbed "Hidden Celebrity Webcam", the 13-week animated program is set to launch Thursday and parodies the private and sometimes embarrassing moments of Hollywood's most notable stars. It was created by writer-producer-director Nell Scovell.
The series, which is sponsored by the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, will incorporate an interactive element June 6 by asking viewers to create and upload their own segment. These will be viewed and judged by Scovell and Icebox's Howard Gordon ("24"), Rob LaZebnik ("The Simpsons") and John Collier ("King of the Hill"), among other TV producers. The online creator with the winning content will receive a chance for representation by the Rothman Becher talent agency.
"This program demonstrates the potential of a creative collaborative, and the interactive component will encourage other talented, aspiring writers and artists to use the Internet as a forum for artistic expression," Icebox co-founder and CEO Tal Vigderson said.

"To be writing a psychological horror film for William Friedkin, the man who set the standard in the genre by directing what is considered the scariest and most viscerally disturbing movie of all time, is more than a writer could hope for," said Davis, referring to the filmmaker's classic The Exorcist. Friedkin, repped by WMA, most recently directed The Hunted.
