Wyatt Russell debuted in the MCU as John Walker/ US Agent in 2021’s The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The character became the US government’s answer for Steve Rogers’ replacement as Captain America. John Walker was a great addition to the MCU as his complex and divisive position within the show created a lot of interesting chatter among audiences.

Reintroducing villains or anti-heroes from former movies hasn’t really been MCU’s style ever since it was kicked off with Iron Man back in 2008. Characters like Loki and Bucky Barnes have been an exception in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe as they have already redeemed themselves in multiple movies and series over the years.

However, we are all set to see multiple anti-heroes from former Marvel movies reprise their role and combine their forces to take down a greater threat in the upcoming film, Thunderbolts*.
Kevin Feige opens up about the asterisk in Thunderbolts*
Thunderbolts is the name of an anti-hero team appearing in Marvel comics that mostly consists of reformed supervillains. A film of the same name is also currently under development that will most probably explore the origins of this anti-hero team.

Anthony Mackie is all set to get his solo Captain America project in Captain America: Brave New World, slated to release in 2025. Sam Wilson has to fill in great shoes and carry the prestigious mantle after Steve Rogers passed his Vibranium shield and his title to him in Avengers: Endgame. However, the Disney+ show, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, explored Wilson’s journey from being Falcon to Captain America.
Anthony Mackie as Captain America
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was the second Disney+ MCU series following WandaVision. Unfortunately, the show could not mimic the success of the Elizabeth Olsen series and generated a very mixed response on the internet. It looks like the debate regarding the show has resurfaced once again before the release of Captain America 4.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has seemingly found its new Sentry. Though it hasn't been officially confirmed by the folks at Marvel Studios, it has been reported widely that the character will appear in the upcoming "Thunderbolts" movie that is set to conclude Phase 5 of the MCU. Recently, Steven Yeun announced his departure from the film, which left the production with a pretty big problem to solve.
According to Deadline, Lewis Pullman is the man who has been tasked with solving that problem. The 30-year-old actor, best known for his work in movies like "Top Gun: Maverick" and "The Strangers: Prey at Night," is now poised to join his biggest franchise yet. Jake Schreier is directing "Thunderbolts," which is expected to begin filming in the coming months. Exclusive: Geraldine Viswanathan is set to join Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts as she replaces Ayo Edebiri, who is departing the project due to scheduling after production was delayed due to the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes last year.
Viswanathan is the second recent addition after the film added Lewis Pullman to step in for Steven Yeun, who departed for similar scheduling reasons as Edebiri.
Marvel had no comment.

It was reported earlier that Steven Yeun was set to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Thunderbolts film. Unfortunately, scheduling issues that cropped up due to last year’s dual strikes in Hollywood would now prevent Yeun from participating in filming. The actor felt remorse for the dilemma and wanted to make it clear that he hopes to join the MCU in the future, “I wanna do a Marvel movie. I have some ideas.” Yeun would also apologize to the fans for holding up the production, “It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out.” Deadline is now reporting that Top Gun: Maverick‘s Lewis Pullman is now in talks with Marvel Studios to be Yeun’s replacement. Pullman, the son of Independence Day star Bill Pullman, can currently...

Although Deadpool 3 will be the only Marvel Cinematic Universe movie released in 2024, the new year will see multiple Marvel projects kicking off production, including Thunderbolts. While speaking with THR, Wyatt Russell said that shooting on Thunderbolts should get underway in March or April.
“I’m so lucky to get to work with the kind of talent that I’m going to work with when Thunderbolts starts up in March or April,” Russell said. “I don’t know [exactly] when they’re starting yet.” The actor plays John Walker, who was appointed as Captain America’s successor by the U.S. government in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. As we know, he made some questionable choices and was stripped of his title, but the final episode found him recruited by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to become U.S. Agent.

[This story contains spoilers from Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode six, “Terrifying Miracles.”]
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters star Wyatt Russell has had several opportunities to work alongside his father Kurt over the years, but the younger Russell insisted on establishing himself on his own first.
On the Chris Black- and Matt Fraction-created Monarch, the father-and-son duo share the role of Lee Shaw, a U.S. Army colonel and onetime Monarch agent who’s been tracking the emergence of MonsterVerse Titans since the early 1950s. The two Russells put a great deal of thought into their portrayals in order to ensure that Kurt’s version of Lee in 2015 felt like a logical extension of Wyatt’s character from the ‘50s.
Ultimately, the 37-year-old Russell is glad he waited as long as he did to collaborate with his father.

The New World Order has fallen. We’re now in a Brave New World. Since the announcement of a fourth Captain America film, with Anthony Mackie‘s Sam Wilson in the lead, fans have had one nagging concern: that subtitle.
To the uninformed, there’s nothing terribly wrong with Marvel calling its movie Captain America: New World Order. After all, the movie will deal with the Leader and the Serpent Society establishing a secret government, causing trouble on the world stage. However, the phrase has been used by Right Wing conspiracy theorists in the U.S., often with racist and explicitly anti-Semitic views. While Marvel likely did not mean to invoke these ideas, there’s no denying that the title may have put a damper on the first movie starring a Black Captain America for some.

With just a single, relaxed, behind-the-scenes pic posted on Instagram by Anthony Mackie, everything changes for Captain America’s next big-screen MCU outing. Formerly known as New World Order, the fourth Cap movie will now proudly bear the title Brave New World, as shown on the back of the chairs in Mackie’s on-set snap. At first glance it’s a superficial change, but it’s probably a sensible idea to move away from a phrase thrown around by George Bush Sr in the ‘90s and embrace something a little more Shakespearean.
‘O brave new world, that has such people in’t.’ So says Miranda in The Tempest. She was, obviously enough, not talking about the cast of Cap 4, but if she had been, she wouldn’t have been wrong. As Mackie’s photo attests, the film includes the not inconsiderable presence of Harrison Ford as General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross...

"Thunderbolts" has become the second Marvel Cinematic Universe feature to halt filming amid the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, Deadline reported late Thursday. (Variety and The Hollywood Reporter confirmed shortly thereafter.) The film, which was set to enter production in Atlanta, Georgia in about three weeks in June 2023, will now roll cameras after the writers strike has ended.
Earlier in May, the Mahershala Ali-led "Blade" -- currently slated for September 2024 -- became the first Marvel Studios project to hit pause. It was in the pre-production stage, and like "Thunderbolts," was expected to begin filming in June. Marvel has also stopped shooting on "Wonder Man" -- the Disney+ series with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the lead -- which had been running in Los Angeles.

Florence Pugh is an actor in high demand thanks to her numerous excellent performances in movies of various genres. But many know her best for her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Yelena Belova. Having so much of her calendar spoken for by one property could frustrate a talent like Pugh. But she appreciates that the MCU forces her to consider her choices on a deeper level.
Florence Pugh is becoming a prominent member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Yelena made her on-screen debut in Black Widow in 2021. Like Natasha Romanoff, she is a victim of the Red Room training program. The two come together in the movie to overcome their traumatic childhoods, kill General Dreykov, and destroy the Red Room once and for all.

Ayo Edebiri, known for her breakout role in FX’s The Bear, will join the cast of Marvel’s Thunderbolts film, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed.

While MCU Phase Four was a decidedly mixed bag, one of the most important developments was the introduction of Contessa Valentina de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Valentina made her MCU debut at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, providing the USAgent identity to failed Captain America replacement John Walker. Since then, Valentina has been operating on the side-lines of the MCU, most notably meddling in Wakandan affairs in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
For those who limit their superhero diet to live-action entries, Valentina is still a mysterious figure. But comic book readers recognize the character as a prominent Agent of Shield, one who is often a love interest of Nick Fury. However, that familiarity may be more confusing than helpful, as the MCU Valentina sports some striking differences from her four-color counterpart. And for Louis-Dreyfus, those differences are intentional.

After making relatively brief appearances in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is ready for Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to take on a bigger role in Thunderbolts; not only that, but she wants to show off her fight skills as well.
While speaking with Variety, Julia Louis-Dreyfus confirms that Thunderbolts will start shooting this June and that she really wants to have her own fight scene. “I actually pitched it,” Louis-Dreyfus said, “I told them I really, really want to fight. We’ll see if that happens. I haven’t seen the script yet.” After being reminded of the rigorous stunt training needed for such a scene, she added, “Ugh, I’d better get in shape.“

The cast of ‘Captain America: New World Order’ has been revealed at Marvel’s D23 Expo presentation. Anthony Mackie, who has played superhero Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” is leading the film as the new Captain America for the first time.
The cast of the fourth ‘Captain America’ movie will also include Shira Haas as Sabra, Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, as well as Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly, who appeared in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ series, as Joaquin Torres and Isaiah Bradley, respectively, reports Variety.
Nelson’s The Leader was last seen in the 2008 film “The Incredible Hulk” as Samuel Sterns, beginning his transformation into the iconic Hulk villain.
As the “New World Order” team took the stage, director Julius Onah called the film a “paranoid thriller.”
Mackie raved about the project, saying: “I’m nervous!

During Marvel Studios' presentation at this year's D23 Expo, Kevin Feige and co. showed plenty of exciting footage and made some major announcements. One of the biggest revelations from the panel was the official line up for the team featured in "Thunderbolts."
The Phase Five finale, written by "Black Widow" scribe Eric Pearson and directed by "Robot & Frank" filmmaker Jake Schreier, is being called Marvel's answer to "The Suicide Squad." Like DC's reluctant team of villains, the Thunderbolts are also a collection of rogues dabbling in super heroics. However, they started as a front for the Masters of Evil to pose as heroes during a time when the Avengers were presumed dead. Eventually, rather than real villains, the team was made up of reformed evil-doers and other figures looking for redemption. And that seems to be the version we're going to see in the MCU.

One of the most mysterious items in Marvel’s Phase 5 film slate has been “Thunderbolts,” a movie that is set to follow a new team of villains who are recruited to go on a dangerous mission for the government. Little has been known about the project, which hails from director Jake Schierer and screenwriters Kurt Busiek and Eric Pearson, other than its 2024 release date and “Suicide Squad”-like premise.
That all changed in a big way at D23 Expo on Saturday.
Towards the end of the Marvel presentation, chief creative officer Kevin Feige revealed the film’s star-studded cast, which includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and “Don’t Worry Darling” star Florence Pugh. The entire cast appeared on stage, save for Pugh, who appeared virtually from the Budapest set of “Dune: Part II” after her dizzying week at the 79th Venice International Film Festival.

Back at Comic-Con, Disney & Marvel Studios revealed that a Thunderbolts movie would be hitting theatres on July 26th, 2024, and now, at D23, we’ve gotten an official cast list. Sebastian Stan leads the adventure as The Winter Soldier and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, aka the new Black Widow. Her adopted dad, David Harbour’s Red Guardian, is along for the ride, as is Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster, but the rest of the team is where it gets really interesting. Wyatt Russell’s John Walker (aka US Agent) from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and Hannah John Kamen’s Ghost from Ant-Man and the Wasp make up the rest of the team. At the D23 panel, Stan joked about Winter Soldier is the most stable member of the group.
In the comics, the Thunderbolts are a team of anti-heroes consisting of mostly reformed supervillains.

Fortunetelling is a great trick, but it only works if you know how to cold read -- absorbing everything in front of you and dropping some meaty guesses about what's on others' minds. Figuring out what's next for one of the biggest media franchises in the world is similar. Only President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige (and those under NDAs) know what's next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, we can take the hints they're leaving and deliver some fun ideas about what's coming next.
We're about to present twelve educated guesses about the next era of the MCU. Based on what the franchise has already shown us, hints from events like 2022's San Diego Comic-Con, well-sourced filming rumors, and (a lot of) speculation drawn from Marvel's extensive comic book history, we predict what's next for Marvel Studios. This article contains She-Hulk spoilers
The last moments of the third episode of She-Hulk introduced an interesting plot development, and I’m not talking about the twerking post-credits scene. As Jen Walters was walking alone at night, she was accosted by four men who turned out to be the MCU version of the Wrecking Crew. She proceeded to easily handle them and sent them running. Thunderball was disappointed to find out that he was unable to break her green skin with a syringe and could not steal her gamma blood.
The group drove off and mentioned something about having a boss, adding some extra intrigue to their sudden appearance. These guys were armed with magical weapons and sent to bust She-Hulk open for someone’s big plans. The question is…who? If these guys are coming off as pre-mutation Bebop and Rocksteady, who is the Shredder, pulling the strings?
Here are some possibilities.

San Diego Comic Con’s Marvel Studios panel covered a lot of ground, mapping out a whole slate of future projects through 2025.
But first some recap: the first three Phases in the MCU were pretty self-explanatory. Each Phase came to an end with an Avengers movie (and maybe a comedic solo film follow-up to act as a denouement). It was all building towards the big battle against Thanos, and once that was done and we saw some aftershocks via Spider-Man: Far From Home, it was time for Phase 4. While there have been plenty of fun movies and shows this phase, it also feels rather formless, leaving us to wonder what this has all been leading to.
Now we know. Phase 4 ends with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever this November. Phase 5 will quickly follow, starting with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in February and Secret Invasion in Spring 2023. But this phase will only last a mere 17 months.

Marvel’s next big team of heroes (or are they villains?) are gearing up to make their debuts. Out of Marvel Studio’s jam-packed panel at San Diego Comic-Con, studio president Keven Feige revealed that a “Thunderbolts” film will close the MCU’s Phase 5, with a release date set for July 26, 2024.
News of a “Thunderbolts” movie being in development first broke last month, with Jake Schreier, who previously helmed 2012’s “Robot and Frank” and 2015’s “Paper Towns” on board. Eric Pearson, who penned Marvel’s “Black Widow,” is attached to write the script, with Feige producing.

He told Total Film in an exclusive interview, “I think there have been many clues already, that are at least apparent to me, of where this whole saga is going.” So, what’s already been hinted at in previous projects, and where do we think Phase 5 might be going based on that info?

Anyone even remotely familiar with comic books knows that superheroes never die. Peter Parker’s beloved Uncle Ben may be forever pushing up daisies, but if even Jason Todd and Bucky Barnes can return from the grave, then nobody is gone forever. That might even be true for live-action, as Carrie Fisher and Peter Cushing appeared in Star Wars films after their deaths and even a young Mark Hamill popped up in The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett.
With these possibilities out there, it’s no wonder that so many Marvel fans hope to see Chris Evans once again as the star-spangled man with a plan. Evans’s Steve Rogers retired the Captain America persona at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Having defeated Thanos alongside the departed Iron Man and other Marvel heroes, Cap ends his cross-time mission to return the infinity stones by rejoining his beloved Peggy Carter in the 1940s,...

Marvel Studios may have its next big team-up movie. A film based on the Thunderbolts — a team of supervillains in the Marvel comics — is in early development, with director Jake Schreier on board, Variety has confirmed.
“Black Widow” writer Eric Pearson will write the film, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will produce. Previously, Schreier directed 2012’s “Robot and Frank” and 2015’s “Paper Towns,” and he’s made several music videos for artists like Kanye West, Selena Gomez, Chance the Rapper, Baby Keem, Benny Blanco, Francis and the Lights, Cashmere Cat and more. He’s also directed episodes of HBO Max’s “Minx,” FX’s “The Premise,” and Showtime’s “Kidding.”
Like most upcoming Marvel projects, plot details are under lock and key, and no casting information has been revealed. In the Marvel comics, the Thunderbolts are made up of villains, anti-heroes and reformed baddies — some of whom have already...

Other villains who might return include Baron Zemo, Ghost, Taskmaster, The Abomination, US Agent and the Winter Soldier.
The seeds for the Thunderbolts were planted in the recent “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” series, which saw Sam Wilson rise up as the new Captain America while John Walker fell from the title he briefly held while being renamed the U.S. Agent. We suspected Marvel had bigger plans for Wyatt Russell’s ex-Cap.

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses the endings of several titles released by Marvel Studios in 2021 and 2022, from “WandaVision” through “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”
At the very end of 2021’s “WandaVision” — the inauguration of Marvel Studios’ post-“Avengers: Endgame” slate of titles, collectively known as Phase Four — we see Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) quietly sipping tea by a lakeside cabin, recovering from the traumatic events of the series finale. As the camera pushes deeper into the cabin, however, we see that Wanda is actually astral projecting as the Scarlet Witch so she can study the Darkhold, a book of corrupting dark magic. Suddenly, she hears the voices of her two lost sons, and the screen cuts to black. At the time the episode streamed in March 2021, we were left to wonder how that could happen and what Wanda would do next.
Fourteen months later, those questions have been...

It shouldn’t come as any surprise that Anthony Mackie will in fact be the next Captain America since the show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier went off without a hitch really and became yet another enticing look into another change that will be helping to shape the MCU in the years to come. With the way the show ended it’s fair to state that there will be a couple of enemies out there at least for the new Captain America to fight, and it might even be that US Agent, aka John Walker, and perhaps even the new Black

With the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, Emmy Award-winning director Greg Barker and producer Tresha Mabile from Showtime’s upcoming doc Detainee 001 discussed the lessons they learned from John Walker Lindh’s story. The documentary will premiere on Sept. 10 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.
“Watching the documentary now given what’s happened, John, in the great scheme of things, was on the winning side,” Barker said during the network’s TCA press day on Wednesday. “It’s hard to say what the lesson is right now given all that’s going on right now and how heart-wrenching it is for those of us who know people in Afghanistan.”
Mabile adds, “What I would’ve liked to have seen was a transition to a peacekeeping mission because 2,000 troops in Afghanistan is nothing—that’s why we have a military. I think the Afghan people wanted us to be there. [Donald] Trump...
