One of the trickiest aspects of HBO’s House of the Dragon was the way viewers spent roughly half of the drama’s first season with “younger” versions of our two heroines — Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower — before a time jump brought longer-term stars Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke to the screen.
That put a lot of pressure on Milly Alcock and Emily Carey to anchor those initial episodes, which they did extremely well. Alcock had the greater visibility, quickly becoming a red carpet favorite and setting herself up for the opportunity to play Supergirl. Carey’s first major House of the Dragon follow-up, Netflix’s adaptation of Holly Smale’s coming-of-age Geek Girl series, isn’t as high profile as joining DC’s House of Zor-El, but it’s a solid showcase for its 21-year-old star.

Noah Jupe, who is starring opposite Michael Douglas in the Apple TV+ Benjamin Franklin biopic, is leading a TV drama adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’ cult classic Engleby.
Jupe will play the titular character, an enigmatic outsider who graduates from 1970s campus life to 1980s Fleet Street and beyond – haunted all the while by an unsolved mystery involving a friend and fellow student during their university days. The six-part drama is described as a “quintessential British murder mystery meets acute psychological character study, with a healthy dose of dark wit.”
Michael Keillor, who is directing the upcoming BBC/Netflix drama on the Lockerbie disaster, is directing, and Channel 4-backed production outfit Freedom Scripted is producing. No network is attached as of yet. Stage and screenwriters Ryan Craig and Jess Ruston are penning the series, with Freedom Scripted’s MD Mike Ellen executive producing.

“Mock if you will,” Christian Evangelist Florence Scanwell (Dorothy Atkinson) chided the bordello workers in Hulu‘s progressive period series Harlots. “There is honor in righteous poverty.” The creative team will be finding new places of employment. Harlots has been cancelled at the streaming service, according to THR, nine months after its third season came to a close.
Based on true stories of real women, Harlots was neither clichéd nor glamorous. It depicted sex work as legitimate. The sex wasn’t gratuitous, it was perfunctory, and there is no judgment of it. The series was written, directed and produced entirely by women. Co-creators Moira Buffini (Jane Eyre) and Alison Newman were Executive Producers alongside Alison Owen, Debra Hayward and Alison Carpenter. Season 3 was written by Buffini, Jane English, Vivienne Harvey and Jessica Ruston, and directed by Robin Sheppard, Chloe Thomas and Debs Paterson, with Pat Tookey-Dickson producing.
Harlots was set in 1763 London.

As if things already weren’t rough enough for the women of 18th century Soho, now they have a pair of ambitious pimp brothers to contend with. Hulu said today that Alfie Allen and Ash Hunter have joined the cast of its drama series Harlots. The streamer also set a July 10 premiere date for Season 3. New episodes will bow on ensuing Wednesdays.
Set in Georgian London, Harlots continues to follow the fortunes of the Wells family. Margaret (Samantha Morton) has been sent to America in chains and Lydia Quigley (Lesley Manville) is vanquished and in Bedlam. It seems that the Wells girls can finally free themselves of their mother’s feud, helped by allies such as Lady Fitz (Liv Tyler). But Charlotte Wells (Jessica Brown-Findlay) soon learns that running a lucrative brothel brings enemies as well as friends, including new pimp in town Isaac Pincher (Alfie Allen). Meanwhile Lydia still finds a way to bite,...

Live in Chi Town? Like The Night Life? Want To Boogie? Are you A Zombie?
I have been really fortunate in the last few years to bump into some great people here in the Chicago horror scene. With my crazy family life and crazy writing struggle it can be pretty hard to get out of the house to network and build relationships. Two of the best people I've met are Mitchell and Jessica Wells who head up Horror Society. They've let me share hotel rooms at conventions, saved me seats at events and have just generally been friendly faces whenever I've shown up and don't know which corner of the room I should haunt.
Besides that they throw wicked parties and they have a great one coming up.
Back again this year with another bigger and better Zombie Disco!
