What began as a single segment titled “Love and the Television Set” on the anthology series “Love, American Style,” grew to become a top ten sitcom that lasted 11 seasons and defined “cool” for a generation. Set in 1950s Milwaukee, “Happy Days” debuted on January 15, 1974, and, although it was only a moderate success initially, became one of the most iconic TV series of its time.
Ron Howard was already a well-known TV star from his days as Opie Taylor on “The Andy Griffith Show,” so it’s not surprising this series centered around his all-American teenage character Richie Cunningham and his middle-class family. In fact, Howard’s appearance in the “Love, American Style” episode led to his casting by George Lucas in the equally nostalgic “American Graffiti” in 1973 — the success of which prompted ABC to pick up “Happy Days.” But it was the character of greaser Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli (Henry Winkler...

Fox News anchor Dana Perino has a time-tested idea for House Republicans who can’t seem to decide on a speaker, an approach proved through centuries of trial and error by generations of statesmen.
“The Five” host says they should get hammered and hammer it out.
Perino, speaking Wednesday as a panelist on “The Five,” addressed the latest setback for the Republicans, who earlier in the day were unable to elect a House leader after Kevin McCarthy failed to garner enough votes for a second straight day after a sixth vote.
“Today there was no movement towards Kevin McCarthy. There was a slight movement back,” Perino started out, downplaying the obvious as the show’s hosts often do to humorous effect (whether the laughter is with them or at them is a topic for another time).

Steven Spielberg famously got his start as a director via the trial by fire of guiding Joan Crawford through the pilot episode of Rod Serling's "Night Gallery." The screen diva put him through his paces but good, but the filmmaker hung in there, likening the experience to "pitching to Hank Aaron your first time in the game." The only performer who might've been more daunting for a tyro director during that era was Bette Davis. Ron Howard learned this when he was assigned to manage the two-time Oscar-winner in the 1980 made-for-television drama "Skyward."
Howard was not quite as wet behind the ears as Spielberg was when he took on Crawford. The "Happy Days" star had been in show business his entire life stretching back to "The Andy Griffith Show." He made his feature-directing debut with 1977's action-comedy "Grand Theft Auto," and called the shots on a TV movie called "Cotton Candy" a year later.

The latest celebrity to run for office in California is 72-year-old Anson Williams, who played dopey Potsie on Happy Days and has tossed his hat in the ring to become mayor of Ojai.
The Nov. 8 election will see Williams challenge incumbent Betsy Stix on a platform that includes developing a sustainable tourism infrastructure, shuttle services on weekends for major events, expansion of bike paths and trails, solar incentives and a graywater system for hotels and golf courses, among many other proposed initiatives.
“Not only are things not being done or completed, but there’s a division in the community that won’t continue under my leadership,” explained Williams, who told The Hollywood Reporter that he doesn’t expect to rely too heavily on Hollywood connections to raise his chances outside of Happy Days “brothers” Ron Howard and Henry Winkler.

Emmy winner Henry Winkler was honored at the 35th Israel Film Festival luncheon on Friday, April 29. The “Barry” star received the Iff Career Achievement Award at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles. Mark Feuerstein, who played Winkler’s son on the USA series “Royal Pains” from 2009 to 2016, bestowed the honor to his TV dad. The two are pictured above on the red carpet for Friday’s event.

Scott Baio, a vocal Trump supporter, expressed his disappointment over former “Happy Days” co-stars staging a reunion to raise money for the Wisconsin Democratic Party.

Hollywood megaproducer Ron Howard, who co-starred as Richie Cunningham alongside Baio on the classic 80’s sitcom , announced the event via Twitter on Monday.
“The most important election of our lifetimes is right around the corner and Wisconsin is a must-win state. So I’m thrilled to announce a #HappyDaysReunion to support @WisDems on Oct 25,” Howard tweeted.
Howard will be joined by “Happy Days” c0-stars Henry Winkler (Fonzie), Marion Ross (Marion) and Anson Williams (Potsie).
Shortly after the announcement, “Full House” star John Stamos jumped in on the action, asking if he could play Chachi to which Scott Baio fired back.

Gerald McGrew claims he would like to collect “a Nerkle, a Nerd, and a Seersucker too” for his imaginary zoo in the Dr. Seuss story “If I Ran the Zoo.” It soon became the slang word for someone who is a “square.” Sixty years later, the word “nerd” immediately brings to mind a certain visual: Braces. Eyeglasses. Ill-fitting britches. Outdated hairdo.

Although there are plenty of nerdy characters throughout the history of television – Beaver (Jerry Mathers) and Barney Fife (Don Knotts), for instance, in the early days – the sitcom “Happy Days” is credited for popularizing the term again in the late 1970s. At that time, it referred to anybody who was “uncool” – basically anybody who wasn’t Fonzie – but it was Potsie Weber (Anson Williams) who more often than not got that moniker. Despite a 65-year career in show business, Happy Days star Marion Ross didn't want to write her memoir. "I have prided myself on living such a nice, careful life," she exclusively tells Closer Weekly. "It's not very dramatic." But when her son, Jim Meskimen, urged her, she began recalling lots of stories, like the time she made Cary Grant cry on the set of 1959's Operation Petticoat. "One morning Cary sat down beside me," she says. "I said, 'I don't think I should go down in the submarine because I am going to have a baby. I'm two months pregnant!' He started to cry and it was a wonderful moment between Cary and me. At that point, he never had a child [but always wanted one]. Years later, he had Jennifer." Marion on Happy Days.
