Brett Goldstein has become a familiar face to TV viewers in recent years thanks to his role in the hit Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. However, he is more than just an actor, having also made a name for himself as a writer, producer, and comedian. One of Goldstein’s most recent projects is Shrinking, a comedy-drama series he executive produces for Apple TV+. The show’s first season premiered in January, and the critical response has been positive. As the show gears up for its second season, fans eagerly anticipate whether Goldstein will also appear in front of the camera.

More hailing to the king will begin this October as Bruce Campbell repeats his role of Ashley J. Williams. A blast from the past, the retro/nostalgia fad on small screens is dusting off properties such as eagerly anticipated groundbreaking 90s darling, Twin Peaks. Evil Dead, the cult classic Sam Raimi built his career on, certainly suits the criteria for the nostalgia small screen exhumation, but also belongs to another trend as well - the serialization of horror franchises. The A&E television series Damien - based on The Omen franchise - bombed and was axed soon after wrapping its first season. A premise of an Antichrist with a Messianic complex sounds intriguing but the writers managed to drown the show in repetition, losing the momentum early...

Every San Diego Comic-Con offers a different experience and a unique hue to its vintage. Thus it’s impossible to rank one Sdcc adventure over another, yet there are moments at each that stand tall. And running into Bruce Campbell and friends on several occasions this past week while they were promoting Ash vs Evil Dead season 2 certainly qualifies as a hard-to-top highlight.
Indeed, we were able to catch up with Groovy Bruce’s even groovier chin, as well as at different points Rob Tapert, who is executive producer on Ash vs Evil Dead, and fellow cast members Lucy Lawless, Dana DeLorenzo, and Ray Santiago, during a roundtable interview and the season 2 premiere screening. Celebs have been tweeting their thoughts on the controversial Trayvon Martin case, in which a 17-year-old boy was shot to death this past February by neighborhood-watch volunteer George Zimmerman. But Wyclef Jean has decided to spread Martin's story with a different approach... Music. The Fugees musician teamed up with Prescribed and J. Williams to create a track titled "Justice (If You're 17)" in dedication to Martin, which was dropped today as a free download. "Justice" starts with the lyrics, "If you're 17/And you're wearing a hoodie/You're on the phone/Talking to your shorty/Make no mistake/There's one like you/In every city/You know the...

A couple weeks ago, the stars of the upcoming The Evil Dead remake commented on the tone of the film they're about to shoot. It seemed to catch a lot of people off guard. Not our piece necessarily, but the fact that the talent involved (along with Bruce Campbell) were talking about a seriously scary movie seemed to flummox people. Another aspect of the upcoming remake that has some people seriously freaking out? No Ash. No Ashley J. Williams. No Bruce Campbell. No Chin. Now, I love Bruce Campbell. Ive seen Evil Dead 2 literally dozens of times. Which is why I think its a good thing hes not in this movie. You may think you want Ash in the remake too. But you dont. Not really. Why? Because its a remake of The Evil Dead. Not Evil Dead 2. And theres a huge difference. ...

Dynamite Entertainment’s monthly serialization of "Army of Darkness" may very well be a sign of what is to come in the theatrical remake of Evil Dead. For followers of Sam Raimi’s breakthrough hit, the comic series that follows the exploits of Ash is certainly one worth picking up each month.
Although the time from conception to print, and delivery to the hands of the reader, is often a minimum of three months, a female version of Ashley J. Williams is proving to be interesting. The similarity feels more coincidental than intentional when considering this time line. The character design has hints of Jane Levy’s facial structure, and the actress is currently in talks of playing Mia, the lead role, in the movie remake.
While some readers may wonder where the male Ash is, he will most likely appear by next issue. Ashley may very well be a...

A few weeks ago the Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell-produced remake of The Evil Dead came close to landing their first star, but that didn't exactly work out too well. Reports in early January said that Lily Collins had taken the lead female role in the movie, but she ended up having to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts. So the filmmakers have regrouped and now they have their first actor signed on, but this time it's a dude. Shiloh Fernandez, who played Peter in last year's Red Riding Hood, has apparently taken the first part in the Evil Dead remake, according to Variety. The trade describes the role as the male lead in the movie, but doesn't offer a character name or description (though it should be noted that Ashley J. Williams is not going to be a member of the group). The movie is being written...

Lily Collins is currently in final negotiations to play the lead role, Mia, in FilmDistrict’s upcoming anticipated remake of ‘The Evil Dead,’ Comic Book Movie is reporting. Mia is reportedly the female version of Bruce Campbell’s character, Ashley J. Williams, in the original trilogy. ‘The Evil Dead’ remake is set to follow Mia and four friends, David, Natalie, Eric and Olivia, as they travel to a remote cabin so that Mia can detox. There, they find a Book of the Dead that unleashes a demonic force. The friends are all possessed, until only one is left to fight for survival. With Mia focusing on her new-found sobriety, Olivia acting as...

The first bit of casting news for the remake of the 1981 Sam Raimi film The Evil Dead has made its way online, and we've got the skinny on what fresh-faced actor is getting set to be all bloodied up and violated by a long sleeping Candarian demon.
According to Bloody Disgusting Lily Collins (pictured right; The Blind Side, Priest, Mirror Mirror) is in final negotiations to play "Mia" in FilmDistrict's reboot aiming for release on April 12th, 2013.
Update
Bd has just confirmed that Mia is the Lead, and is (sort of) the female version of Ashley J. Williams (Ash), once portrayed by Bruce Campbell in the original trilogy.
Fede Alvarez directs the redo of Raimi's cult classic 1981 from his own screenplay co-written with Rodo Sayagues. Revisions were done by Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody. In this version, the story centers on five friends (David, Natalie, Eric, Olivia, and Mia) holed up...

Thinking about next year already? Dynamite Entertainment's success with its Army of Darkness (AoD) license is going to get a regular series starting February 2012. This series will come out after "Danger Girl and the Army of Darkness" graphic novel releases mid January.
Writer Elliott Serrano (from the previous AoD releases) and artist Marat Mychaels ("Youngblood" and "Demonslayer") will provide an ongoing saga that promises to be a new chapter. As the evil of the Necronomicon spreads across the cosmos, a new ally in the war against the Deadites emerges. There is a woman going by the name of "Ash," and readers may very well ask what her relation is with the real "Chosen One?" Is Ashley J. Williams going to have competition? They will be answered in due time, as our accidental hero travels deep into a pyramid of Ancient Egypt in a parallel dimension in the first tale.

With the recent news that the "Evil Dead" remake actually appears to be moving ahead, (with Diablo Cody punching up the script, no less) we've been thinking about Sam Raimi's seminal horror-comedy flick more than usual, which frankly, we didn't even think was possible.
So, in honor of the news that we may get our first taste of the "Evil Dead" franchise since 1992's "Army of Darkness," we've assembled the top five things we want to see in the upcoming remake. But don't worry, Diablo Cody-haters, you won't find "quippy pop culture references" or "hamburger phones" anywhere on this list.
1) Traditional Special Effects
One of the things that made the original "Evil Dead" so charming were all the low-rent special effects. Unfortunately, given that it's the year 2011, Lionsgate is most likely going to CG the hell out of this thing, especially since its being helmed by Fede Álvarez,...

As we reported earlier today, an Evil Dead remake is in the works. Now it's official with a press-release announcement from Sam Raimi confirming that Fede Alvarez will direct the film working from his own script, which he co-wrote on with Rodo Sayagues. The one new wrinkle? Oscar-winner Diablo Cody (Juno) is polishing the draft, exchanging boomsticks for hamburger phones.
But despair not. This is actually the first positive news I've heard about the remake. I loathe the general idea, but with a little assistance from Cody, I think they can make a movie distinct enough from the original not to tarnish it. I also know a lot of people dismissed Jennifer's Body because of Megan Fox, but it's much better than you might think. The writing is clever and sharp. I'm an unabashed fan of Cody, and anyone that throws as many 80's references around as she does clearly understands The Evil Dead.

After years of rumor and speculation, after countless teases, it looks like there may actually may possibly be, but not officially, so maybe maybe not an Evil Dead remake. Bruce Campbell said as much on Twitter (although, he's said as much many, many times in the past), but this time, there's an actual director attached. His name is not Sam Raimi. I guess it would be weird for Raimi to remake his own film, but for me, it's weird that Evil Dead would be remade at all. But that's because Evil Dead 2 is my holy grail of films. The Evil Dead trilogy, which I once called the greatest trilogy of all time, is my Star Wars. It's the reason I started loving movies. It's the reason I loved horror films even after the likes of James Wan and Eli Roth took center stage.
It's also the reason that God invented Bruce Campbell.

It was revealed back in March that Neca had licensed the rights to produce action figures based on Sam Raimi's iconic Evil Dead 2. While there are about 40 different figure options, Neca has opted to debut the series with "Ashley J. Williams," which comes rocking both a freshly wounded stump ("Then it came after me, it got into my hand and it went bad, so I lopped it off at the wrist") and his trusty boomstick. The full line will be revealed at the July San Diego Comic-Con, but right now you'll find a prototype work-in-progress inside, courtesy of Figures.com.

When I first heard Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell were going to remake the horror classic Evil Dead my heart sunk. This is one of my all time favorite horror movies, and it's something I didn't want to ever see get remade. I know many of you feel the same way, and maybe some of these words from Bruce Campbell will comfort you in the fact that it's eventually going to happen.
The last we heard they were going to look at a script for them film, Campbell reveals that he's read the script and that he loves it.
We are remaking Evil Dead. The script is awesome. I will be one of the producers and possibly play the milk man.
Of course he wont play the milk man, but I think it's safe to say that he also wont be returning as Ashley J. Williams either. Campbell continued saying,...

Bruce Campbell will forever be associated with Deadite-fighting bonehead/hero Ashley J. Williams from the Evil Dead movies, a fact the actor cheerfully embraces. In a lengthy interview with the La Times, The Chin talks about the legacy of the movies, his history with director Sam Raimi, the difficulties of both indie horror and studio productions, the multitude of Evil Dead DVD releases (he's out promoting the new Blu-Ray), and his shift to television work. Campbell naturally drops some...

There is nothing strange about the premise of "Hot Tub Time Machine," certainly not in comparison to other movies dealing with time travel. While it might seem weird that four buddies can just plop down inside of a steamy outdoor bath and subsequently jump back in time to the 1980s, trust me — that's not as weird as it can get.
Time travel is an odd beast that has been at the heart of several films over the years, for better or worse. "The Crazies" is not a zombie movie. Although it's a remake of an older movie made by zombie godfather George Romero, the crazy freaks that populate Breck Eisner's latest thriller aren't of the undead variety. For some reason, plenty of films – horror or comedy, good or bad – are inexplicably labeled as part of the zombie genre, even when there isn't an undead flesh-eater in sight.
Beyond the jump, we've listed a few flicks that some casual moviegoers might mistakenly describe as an exploration of the walking dead.
28 Days Later: Although a fantastic film on many levels, Danny Boyle's "28 Days Later" isn't part of the zombie canon. The creatures that inhabit this horrific post-apocalyptic world are victims of a rage-inducing plague, one that's transferred by blood, but certainly doesn't cause death then subsequent flesh-hungry resurrection.

Here'a few more items to close out the morning's trade news:
First up, after scuttling Spidey 4, there have been some questions about what Sam Raimi might tackle next, though it looks like War of the Warcraft may be his highest priority (boo! Bring on Ashley J. Williams). However, Raimi's name is also coming up in connection with Nemesis , the next project from the creator behind Kick-Ass, Mark Millar. And it's an intriguing concept, even as a guy who doesn't get into comic books. The premise is this: Take a Bruce-Wayne type millionaire with tons of money and resources at his disposal, and instead of turning him into Superman, he decides to become a super- villain -- a well-connected Joker, if you will. It's a cool idea, mostly because most of us prefer a good villain over the super hero any day of the week, so why not make the focus...

Tomorrow, we'll be unveiling our Ten Best Films of 2009, but before then -- as we did last year -- we'd like to focus your attention to ten movies of a different ilk. They're not what we consider the ten best of the year, but when you're adding titles to your Netflix queue or picking up something from Redbox on your home, the best movie is not always the one you want to see. You might simply prefer some light entertainment, a little escapist fun, or something silly and frothy, but that won't cause permanent brain damage. I despite it when people suggest that you should turn your brain off and just enjoy a movie -- as if there were a goddamn switch on the thing -- but I do often enjoy a movie that doesn't tax the already deteriorating intellect too much.
