Glide is pleased to announce the annual eBay for Charity Auction for Power Lunch with Warren Buffett, which will run Sunday, May 26 through Friday, May 31, 2019. “It makes a difference, and it translates into human beings finding that there is hope in life and that something better is there,” Warren Buffett said recently about the money raised for Glide over the past 20 years. “The rest of the society may have given up on them, but Glide is going to give them a chance to find out what their real potential is. And the people that buy lunch feel good about that, I feel good about that. The most important thing, though, is what it does to resurrect...

This story just keeps getting more amazing: To start, a seeing eye dog saved his owner after the man fainted and fell on train tracks. Cecil Williams, 61, passed out while waiting for the subway in New York and his guide dog, a black lab named Orlando, immediately leapt to action. Cecil Williams, whose life was saved by his guide dog after he fell on New York City subway tracks, will get to keep his pooch after animal lovers donated money to pay for the retiring pup's expenses. Williams, 61, faced finding a new home for Orlando, the Labrador who jumped on the tracks to revive him after he fainted, because the 11-year-old pooch is getting to be too old to be a guide dog and the owner's insurance plan doesn't cover the expenses of nonworking dogs, the New York Post reports. Guiding Eyes for the Blind, which trained Orlando, created a...

Billionaire Warren Buffett has given away $1.93 billion in company shares to charity this year, after pledging to give away 99% of his wealth to good causes in 2006.
The money is split between five charities – the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Sherwood Foundation, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, the NoVo Foundation, and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation.
The donation follows last month’s online auction to have lunch with the business legend, which raised $2.63 million for the Glide Foundation, a diverse, cutting-edge church and nonprofit offering innovative programs to poor and marginalized people. The foundation serves 700,000 free meals a year and provides dozens of other social services on a $12 million budget, according to Cecil Williams, the foundation’s chief executive officer and minister of the associated church.
