- Margarita Xirgu was born on June 18, 1888 in Molins de Rei, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. She was an actress, known for Alma torturada (1917), La reina joven (1916) and Blood Wedding (1938). She was married to Josep Arnall. She died on April 25, 1969 in Montevideo, Uruguay.

- She adopted Uruguayan citizenship. A theater room of Buenos Aires, Argentina, is named in her honor.
- She appeared in the original productions of many of the most famous plays of Federico García Lorca, who was her close friend. Xirgu learned of Lorca's execution just before a performance of his play "Yerma", and changed her final line from "I myself have murdered my own child" to "They have murdered my child."
