It took a while but Krapopolis, Fox’s new animated series, performed well in its opening.
Fox said that the Sunday night premiere of the Dan Harmon-created series delivered a 1.2 Live+ Same Day rating among adults 18-49 and 3.6M total viewers.
The network said that this made it the most-watched animation series to debut over the past decade and Rick and Morty co-creator Harmon’s most-watched animated series telecast ever.
Krapopolis was helped by Fox airing it after a Sunday NFL game that not only saw the Kansas City Chiefs blow out the Chicago Bears, but a game that saw Taylor Swift make headlines for turning up to support her new friend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Fox added that it became the number one original comedy telecast of 2023, beating the debut of the Night Court reboot and the number one entertainment program among adults 18-49 for the week...

Updated: The network upfronts are once again front-and-center for the television industry as major players gather in New York May 15-17 for the springtime ritual of presenting programming plans for the upcoming TV season.
Upfronts are always a hectic time, but this year it’s even more so because of the writers strike that began May 2. Writers and many actors are sitting out the upfront presentations in solidarity with the Writers Guild of America. The promise of WGA pickets surrounding all major events spurred Netflix to make a hasty decision to switch to a virtual presentation rather than an in-person event at the company’s Paris Theater.
As content chiefs outline their plans for the 2022-2023 television season, here is a running list of new drama and comedy series orders handed out by ABC, Disney, CBS, Warner Bros. Discovery, NBC, Fox, the CW and other major players in the upfront.

Jordan Young has been named executive producer and showrunner on the Dan Harmon animated Fox comedy “Krapopolis.”
The show was ordered at Fox back in January and is slated to debut in 2022. Young will work under Harmon’s supervision in handling the day-to-day aspects of the production.
Young started out as an animator on “The Simpsons” before going on to co-develop the Comedy Central animated series “Drawn Together.” His other credits include “Son of Zorn,” “BoJack Horseman,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “Life in Pieces,” and “Raising Hope.” He is repped by UTA and Lev Ginsburg.
Set in mythical ancient Greece, “Krapopolis” is centered on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.
The series falls under Harmon’s broadcast network-only exclusive direct animation deal with Fox Entertainment. Harmon created the series and serves as executive producer alongside Young.

Kentucky songwriter Kyle Daniel shines a sympathetic light on the cycle of addiction in his new song “Born to Lose,” a personal track inspired by people he knew in his Bowling Green hometown.
“We live in a time in which addiction has somehow impacted all of our lives,” says Daniel of the song, off his upcoming Ep What’s There to Say?, out March 15th. “I felt the need to discuss the hardships of this crisis, without painting it in a negative light, coming from a place or understanding and acceptance.

For all the haunting images in For Those in Peril, the film's most haunting moment isn't a visual, but a song sung by a grieving woman.
The song is "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," an achingly beautiful love song that sounds achingly sad in the movie. The singer is Cathy (Kate Dickie), a weary mother who has lost a son and fears she may lose another. What should be a good time singing karaoke in a pub turns bitter when Cathy is overcome with emotion and can't finish the song. It's a devastating scene in For Those in Peril, a film full of devastating scenes.
Cathy's son Michael (Jordan Young) died along with four crewmates in a tragic fishing boat accident. The sole survivor is Michael's younger brother, Aaron (George MacKay), who suffers crippling survivor's guilt. He gets no sympathy from the residents of the tiny Scottish...

Stories, however they’re told, take us on a journey. They can be full of struggle, hardship, and general nasty bits, but once you’re in, you’re in for good. For Those in Peril, the highly accomplished debut from newcomer Paul Wright, arguably boasts two of them; the main narrative itself, and the child’s fable that acts as a metaphorical parallel. Except this isn’t really about one story, or two; it’s in the telling of them that’s important.
Aaron, a slight recluse and a bit of a dreamer, is trying to adjust to life back in his rural Scottish fishing town following a bizarre fishing accident where he is the only survivor. He and his mother Cathy (Kate Dickie) struggle with the aftermath; Aaron’s brother, Michael (Jordan Young), died in the disaster, and their fellow townsfolk regard his return to shore unharmed as unnatural,...

There are times when I’m reminded just why I love the British movie industry and the films they produce. Over the last month I reviewed The Selfish Giant, and now I’ve had the chance to watch For Those in Peril and these are two movies that show not only how brave film-making can be, but also how powerful when done correctly. It’s also interesting that this week this is the second movie that I’ve reviewed this week to stay George MacKay.

British cinema is great at taking quaint environments and turning them into Hell. We also have a penchant for misery and wasted lives, both of which you’ll find abundantly in Paul Wright’s impressive feature debut For Those in Peril, a keyhole into the social mechanics of a small fishing community in Scotland.
After a tragic accident takes the lives of five young fishermen, Aaron (George MacKay), the sole survivor of the tragedy which also claimed his older brother, is left in a steadily growing state of social detachment as the town around focuses their grief on him. Mackay shines as a social outcast, a loner before the tragedy and even more so after with little to live for in a town...

The Edinburgh International Film Festival has forever prided itself as a festival of discovery, a platform for new filmmaking talent to present their works to audiences, critics and fellow filmmakers alike in the hope of receiving recognition. If there’s one person who deserves credit this year, then it’s Paul Wright, whose feature debut For Those In Peril is a bold and innovative poetic fable that, through a rich textual narrative, astounds in its emotional resonance.
Awkward outsider Aaron (George Mckay) is the sole survivor of a freak fishing accident that claimed the lives of four others, including his protective older brother Michael (Jordan Young). Unable to escape the anguish, Aaron clings to the hope that Michael is still alive, devising methods to save him from what he calls “the devil in the ocean”. But, with the whole community against him, and his state-of-mind worsening by the minute, it...

The debut feature from young Brit Paul Wright richly deserves its place in the Critics Week line-up, but Wright needs to beware of cliche and superabundance
This debut feature from young British director Paul Wright concerns a disturbed young man in a remote Scottish fishing village: Aaron, played by George Mackay. He was the only person rescued alive from a craft wrecked by a catastrophic storm; the other five crew-members, including his adored elder brother Michael (Jordan Young), were drowned. It is a study in grief, pain and survivor-guilt - that is, the guilt felt by the survivor, and also that imposed on him by a community who will not forgive him for being alive while their loved ones are dead, and whose anguish gradually metamorphoses into irrational suspicion and rage. In his loneliness and misery, Aaron becomes close to Michael's fiancee (Nichola Burley) - a taboo-infringement which just intensifies the village's anger,...
