The crime organization known as the Tracksuit Mafia played a significant role on the Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series Hawkeye; now, the gang’s commander, Maya Lopez, is the focus of a new spinoff series, Echo. Alaqua Cox, who plays the character on both shows, takes the spotlight in the new series, and she says it’s been interesting — and a little bit difficult, at times — to flesh out what had been a small role into a starring role.(Click on the media bar below to hear Alaqua Cox) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Alaqua_Cox_Ehco_Charchter_.mp3 Echo is currently streaming on Disney+.

These days, legacy can be a burden for television. Whether it’s the legacy of a beloved property poised to be bastardized via reboot, the legacy of a network or star, the legacy of a brilliant debut now hinging upon equal or better subsequent installment, there are legacies intertwined in too many new shows, hanging in the balance as studios and streamers churn out new stories.
But legacy doesn’t matter so much to Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) the lead of Marion Dayre’s “Echo,” now streaming in full on Disney+. Whether it’s her family, her employer, or the stories passed down to her as a child, Maya is more interested in forging her own path than appeasing various players around her. Like “Echo” itself, she stands alone and stands tall — distinct and imposing compared to any imitation.

This far into the MCU, it can be hard to know and remember which projects connect to each other and how. Well, the good news about “The Marvels” is, you don’t need to know as much going in as you might for other projects.
In fact, at a base level, you only need to have seen three other MCU installments. And that’s because, though the movie is only a sequel, it brings together three characters. “The Marvels” unites Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) when their powers become entangled.
All three women have light-based powers, but don’t worry, Captain Rambeau will succinctly explain how their powers differ in the movie. We’re just here to get you prepped. So, here’s what you need to watch to understand what’s happening in “The Marvels.”

Marvel Studios’ Echo isn’t your normal Disney+ series. No, this series has some bite and doesn’t skimp on gritty, violent action scenes. At least, that’s the vibe laid down in the first official trailer for the comic-book-inspired series starring Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez.
Cox was introduced in the role in 2021’s Hawkeye limited series starring Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld. Vincent D’Onofrio reprises his role as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin from Daredevil and Hawkeye in Echo, with the trailer confirming the series will trace his relationship with Maya.
The cast also includes Chaske Spencer (The English), Graham Greene (1883), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon), Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs), Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds), and Cody Lightning.

Marvel fans won’t see Agatha: Darkhold Diaries until more than a year from now, it seems. Amid the ongoing strikes and a shift in strategy at Disney+, Marvel Studios has delayed the WandaVision spinoff’s premiere until fall 2024. The Hollywood Reporter, which announced the rescheduling, also notes that Marvel Studios has given new dates to other superhero shows, including the Hawkeye spinoff Echo, the animated series X-Men ’97, and the second season of the anthology What If…? Production on those Marvel titles — and countless other Hollywood projects — is impacted by the writers strike, which began on May 2, and the actors strike, which kicked off on July 14. Plus, sources tell THR that Marvel wants to spread out its new offerings to make each one more of an event for fans. Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Studios Here’s the new plan, according to THR: Agatha: Darkhold Diaries — previously titled Agatha: House of Harkness...

Chuck Zlotnick/Universal Pictures So far, Strays has been marketed as a raunchy R-rated comedy, one that turns the traditional dog movie trope on its ear by having the dogs scheme against a former owner. However, Will Ferrell says the movie is much more than just its rowdy, in-your-face humor. Ferrell told us he was caught off guard by some of the relationships that form over the course of the film, too. Chuck Zlotnick/Universal Pictures Will Ferrell is no stranger to doing voiceover work in movies — his first was Curious George, all the way back in 2006. But his latest, Strays, is, without a doubt, the most raucous voiceover work he’s ever done. While the other films were all aimed at family audiences, Strays is an R-rated film with a decidedly adult bent. Ferrell says the idea of cute dogs and raunchy humor was really appealing to him. The new comedy Strays, despite sporting an “R” rating for an abundance of sexual content and foul language, still manages to play out and deliver as a family film of sorts – albeit one you’ll more than likely want to steer your younger children away from (at least until they’re a bit older).
Strays is the story of a sweetly optimistic Border Terrier named Reggie (voiced by Will Ferrell) who is abandoned by his dirtbag owner Doug (Will Forte), but still desperately wants to find his way back to what he believes is a loving and caring home. Once he’s on his own however, Reggie falls in with a group of strays that include a foul-mouthed Boston Terrier named Bug (voiced by Jamie Foxx), an Australian Shepherd named Maggie (voiced by Isla Fisher), and an overly anxious Great Dane named Hunter (voiced by Randall Park) who works as...

Chuck Zlotnick/Universal Pictures Featuring a cast that includes Will Ferrell, Will Forte, Sofia Vergara, Isla Fisher, and Randall Park, Strays isn’t exactly a movie about lovable mutts. Instead, it’s about a group of dogs that teams up to take revenge on a bad owner. It may not be a feel-good movie, according to Forte, but he says it’s a very, very funny movie. Chuck Zlotnick/Universal Pictures Even though its stars provide the voices for a quartet of dogs (who interact with real-life actors), Strays is definitely not a kids’ movie: Its story actually finds the four dogs finding ways to seek revenge against one of their abusive former owners. Its adult humor has earned it an R rating, which makes one of its stars, Isla Fisher, very happy. She told us she was really excited to read a screenplay that dared to be rude, crude, and really funny. Disney+‘s Echo series starring Alaqua Cox‘s Maya Lopez will feature two familiar faces from Marvel’s former Netflix series Daredevil. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will reportedly reprise their roles as Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil, and Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin in the Disney+ series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel hasn’t commented on the casting news, but it shouldn’t come as a major surprise. In 2021, Cox and D’Onofrio made their Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debuts when Matt Murdock showed up in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Kingpin played an antagonistic role in Disney+’s Hawkeye series. Given the continual expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it can be difficult to stay up-to-date on every single project, try as we might to catch up on weekly Disney+ series and the latest theatrical releases. This is especially true with “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which is the follow-up to several Marvel projects.
The MCU officially entered its Phase Four with the January 2021 premiere of the meta “WandaVision” Disney+ series and kicked off the new Phase’s theatrical era with the long-awaited “Black Widow,” which was released that summer in theaters and on Disney+. It’s been a little under a year since viewers were thrown into the world of Marvel’s third Disney+ series, Loki, and already the stars are gearing up for Season 2. Ahead of his turn in Apple TV+‘s The Essex Serpent alongside Claire Danes, star Tom Hiddleston spoke to Total Film about the upcoming chapter of the Marvel hit. As fans may recall, Season 1 concluded with a cliffhanger twist as Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) killed He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), setting off the multiversal timelines, which Loki realized when he returned to a very changed Tva where Mobius (Owen Wilson) and others no longer recognized him. (Credit: Disney+/Chuck Zlotnick) “We made some new, bold choices,” Hiddleston shared with the outlet regarding Season 1. “Loki goes on a really big, internal journey that felt very new and fresh.” Along that journey, the God of Mischief realized the impact of his...

Disney+ will officially house Marvel’s former Netflix series, expanding their selection of titles and varying the banner with more mature content and storylines. While Disney+ already has a plethora of Marvel productions in progress ranging from Loki Season 2 and Echo to the latest title, Moon Knight, is it possible that the former Netflix shows will be given a second shot at more episodes? The possibility certainly seems to be there as some of Marvel’s more recent projects — Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home — incorporated characters from the shows. When Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders were rolling out on Netflix, they existed a world that referenced some of the MCU’s characters and made mention of The Battle of New York, the climax of the MCU’s Avengers. One of the first things that a viewer notices about the new Marvel show Loki — besides the irreverent, surreal tone and typically fantastic performance by Tom Hiddleston in the title role — is the look, which blends futuristic high tech with bureaucratic blandness and out-of-time anachronisms.
All these elements are particularly present in the headquarters of the Time Variance Authority, the organization that keeps the Sacred Timeline from splintering off into pieces and sends agents out to retrieve Loki once he fractures the timeline with his escape from 2012 in Avengers: Endgame.
It’s the kind of strange mix of science fiction, fantasy and enhanced reality that has been practiced in the past by filmmaking geniuses like Terry Gilliam and others. Director Kate Herron, who helms all six episodes of Loki, tells us that she was going for exactly that kind of feeling.

Marvel Studios presents “Captain Marvel,” an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that introduces the McU’s first stand-alone, female-franchise title character—Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel.
Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” sidesteps the traditional originstory template, with Carol Danvers already possessing her superhero powers. Leaving her earthly life behind, she joins an intergalactic elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by their enigmatic commander, Yon-Rogg. But after Danvers has trained and worked with the Starforce team, and become a valued member, she finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. While on Earth she quickly lands on the radar of Nick Fury, and they must work together against a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls—the notorious Marvel bad guys made even more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities—and their leader, Talos, who is...

Undoubtedly the year that was 2018 was one of the oddest, to say the least. Events both in the United States and worldwide had movie goers escaping to cinemas for relief… both off world or right here on Terra Firma. Wamg’s Top 10 Movies of 2018 entertained audiences with superheroes and super-people alike, educated them with history lessons on prejudice, bigotry, and tragedy, while at the same time finding solace in one man’s gentle, understanding words as well as a family’s love, loss and sacrifice.

People don't go to the multiplex to watch a sociological study. (Which is just as well: Big, loud Hollywood blockbusters aren't usually great with nuance, so it'd be too much to ask them to be remotely politically deft.) And yet, this past weekend's super-successful Spider-Man: Homecoming contains, perhaps by accident, a rather astute examination of a cultural issue that's been at the forefront of political debate over the last several years. And it's expressed in the form of the movie's excellent villain, the small-business owner-turned-evil mastermind Adrian Toomes, a.k.

Most people are lucky to get a snazzy tie pin or a used pocket square as the accessories for their Homecoming suit. Not so for your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, with Marvel releasing a new graphic today showing off all the high-tech bells and whistles in Peter Parker’s latest duds. Designed by Tony Stark, it’s a versatile bit of kit, complete with built-in Gps, enhanced web shooters, and that detachable recon drone we saw in the latest trailer. (Director Jon Watts says it’s called “droney,” which is pretty dang cute.)
(Chuck Zlotnick / Sony Pictures Entertainment)
The suit also sports web wings (for gliding aerodynamically over helicopters), “expressive eyes,” and auto-fitting technology. That’s right: Iron Man has finally mastered self-fitting tech, meaning Spider-Man is one step closer to living every nerd’s dream of having Marty McFly’s outfit from Back To The Future Part II. (It remains...

Ben Affleck plays an accountant with some special skills and special challenges in the mystery/action thriller The Accountant. Directed by Gavin O’Connor, what makes The Accountant different from other high-body count thrillers is the protagonist at its center, an autistic math savant. Christian Wolff (Affleck) is brilliant with numbers but has trouble with social interactions. His social difficulties look like autism spectrum, possibly the high-functioning type that used to be called Asperger’s, but his unusual upbringing by his brutal military operative father, designed to help him ward off bullies, has equipped him with skills in martial arts and weapons.

Early next year, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. will take viewers to an island where colossal creatures still roam the land, and King Kong’s cry can be heard… and feared. Ahead of Kong: Skull Island‘s March 10th, 2017 release, the film is teased in a new image from EW.
EW‘s image shows co-stars Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson among the bones of a giant beast. Viewers can expect to see plenty of towering threats onscreen when Kong: Skull Island comes out, and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kings of Summer) tells EW that his version of Kong will be the biggest one yet:

Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled brand new photos from their upcoming lineup of films hitting cinemas in 2016.
Above is Tom Hanks with director/producer Clint Eastwood on the set of the upcoming film Sully. On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed the “Miracle on the Hudson” when Captain “Sully” Sullenberger (Hanks) glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.
Sully also stars Aaron Eckhart (“Olympus Has Fallen,” “The Dark Knight”) as Sully’s co-pilot, Jeff Skiles, and Oscar nominee Laura Linney (“The Savages,” “Kinsey,” Showtime’s “The Big C”) as Sully’s wife, Lorraine Sullenberger.

'127 Hours' movie with James Franco '127 Hours' Review: James Franco stars in harrowing real life-based story 127 Hours. When I initially heard that Danny Boyle and Simon Beaufoy, the Oscar-winning team behind Slumdog Millionaire, were adapting the real life story of Aron Ralston for the big screen, I got excited. A movie seemed an inevitability when the story broke in the news – and Ralston wrote a book about it – but I couldn't have imagined such a great filmmaking team actually working on it. When James Franco was cast as Ralston, my hopes hit a high. Franco is an underrated and remarkably talented actor unfortunately snubbed by most for his wonderful work in 2008's Milk and Pineapple Express. Danny Boyle also happens to be a very skilled director, one whose style tends to be hyperkinetic. Though it worked beautifully in Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting, Boyle's touch actually hinders, rather than enhances,...

Chicago – “No one talks like that,” I kept thinking to myself about this noir thriller. But that said, “Nightcrawler” is driven by just about the most entertaining dialogue from one person I’ve seen all year.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
Despite the fact that he’s living in a warped alternate version of the reality you and I know, you can’t stop listening to the way a narcissistic, zombie-like Jake Gyllenhaal puts people in their place. You know immediately that this typically 180-pound man – who shed 20 pounds to become the gaunt Lou Bloom and is hungry both literally and figuratively – is more than an odd bird. He clearly exhibits sociopathic behavior and that side of him is certainly disturbing, but there’s another side I actually find refreshing.
He doesn’t sugar coat because he doesn’t know how to. He speaks so decisively and matter-of-factly. His words are the epitome of being blunt,...

The history of America’s “War on Drugs” has produced many stories. One of the lesser-known ones is that of the late Gary Webb, an investigative reporter for the San Jose Mercury News who wrote a series of articles about the CIA’s involvement in cocaine trafficking into the United States. The film Kill the Messenger tries to tell the story of Webb and the backlash he faced because of his writing. Unfortunately, despite some good performances, the film falls short of its lofty ambitions.
Gary Webb (Jeremy Renner), a journalist for the San Jose Mercury News, thinks he’s found the story of a lifetime when he discovers information that seems to expose the CIA’s role in arming the Contra rebels in Nicaragua and supporting their trafficking of cocaine into the United States. But after Webb’s expose is published, he becomes the target of a vicious smear...

Two-time Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner (“The Bourne Legacy”) leads an all-star cast in a dramatic thriller based on the remarkable true story of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb. Webb stumbles onto a story which leads to the shady origins of the men who started the crack epidemic on the nation’s streets…and further alleges that the CIA was aware of major dealers who were smuggling cocaine into the U.S., and using the profits to arm rebels fighting in Nicaragua.
Despite warnings from drug kingpins and CIA operatives to stop his investigation, Webb keeps digging to uncover a conspiracy with explosive implications. His journey takes him from the prisons of California to the villages of Nicaragua to the highest corridors of power in Washington, D.C. – and draws the kind of attention that threatens not just his career, but his family and his life.

Photographer, Chuck Zlotnick, has snapped some great images from the set of Jurassic World. One of them includes Clint Howard's niece, Bryce Dallas Howard. She's also the daughter of Ron Howard, who directed Rush. Let's be honest, Clint Howard is the big star of this family affair, right? Anyway, we also have a Jurassic Park jeep, which should remind us of the good times we felt after viewing the first film, and hopefully make us forget the disappointment of the sequels. Lastly, an image of a chair looking over the gorgeous Hawaiian set. “Yesterday I was under a construction crane with Chris Pratt, covered with dirt, eyeballing the exact height of the dinosaur trying to kill him,” Colin Trevorrow told EW. “We both cracked up laughing. Sometimes you just have to stop and let the joy take over.” Jurassic World is being directed by Colin Trevorrow, from a screenplay...

Starring four legends like you’ve never seen them before, Last Vegas tells the story of Billy, Paddy, Archie and Sam (played by Academy-Award winners Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline), best friends since childhood.
When Billy, the group’s sworn bachelor, finally proposes to his thirty-something (of course) girlfriend, the four head to Las Vegas with a plan to stop acting their age and relive their glory days.
However, upon arriving, the four quickly realize that the decades have transformed Sin City and tested their friendship in ways they never imagined. The Rat Pack may have once played the Sands and Cirque du Soleil may now rule the Strip, but it’s these four who are taking over Vegas.
