After eight years of success in the Dallas film scene, the team at Little Spark Films seems primed to take on the world next. As they look towards the future of their horror-fueled enterprise that has been making shorts, music videos, and various other commercial projects for nearly a decade, their team is beginning to venture out into the world of feature filmmaking, and this writer is excited to see what they’ve been cooking up.
Daily Dead had the opportunity to do a Q&a with Catalina Querida and Joe Manco of Little Spark Films, and they discussed the evolution of Lsf over the years, how their love of horror and music collided, and more.
To learn more about Little Spark films, you can visit their site at https://www.littlesparkfilms.net/, and I’ve gone ahead and included the Grindhouse cut of their short film Anti Christmas Carol,...

From Aliens and Invaders From Mars (1986) to Predator and The Thing, the new In Search of Tomorrow trailer shows what happened when horror and sci-fi collided to create iconic cinema moments and masterful practical effects.
Here's what writer/director/producer David Weiner had to say about the horror sci-fi elements of In Search of Tomorrow:

A week ago I took my pal Justin to a preview of U.S.S. Pinafore, a new stage show that's a musical marriage of Star Trek with Gilbert & Sullivan's classic British operetta H.M.S. Pinafore. I warned him, this could be the worst show ever -- unless somebody really knows what he's doing. Well, somebody does, and his name is Jon Mullich, the man who adapted and directed this delightful romp.
Last Friday I returned with my dear friend Nichelle Nichols (Uhura from the original Enterprise crew), and she loved it too. After the performance, which generated laughter throughout and a standing ovation at the end, we met the amazing cast and production team and posed for photos with them (see pic on my Facebook). Nichelle pronounced the show "brilliant." Obviously I agree. It's rare that such a bold and original concept is so professionally executed.
I cannot recommend it too much.

There's a new horror festival preparing to stalk the woods of California, and it needs your films!
The Big Bear Horror Film Festival, presented by Evil Kitty Productions, will take place in scenic Big Bear Lake, CA on October 16-18, 2009. Out, gay Festival Director Michael Coulombe is teaming with Festival Coordinator Jamie Kristen to bring horror to the idyllic mountain resort town. I've spent many summers up in Big Bear, and if you decide to make the trek into the mountains, you won't be disappointed by the scenery (and I'm assuming the films!)
On hand for the festivities will be none other than Fangoria's daddy, Kerry O'Quinn, as host and emcee. O'Quinn knows a thing or three about festivals, having launched Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors all those many years ago. And for those Glbt fans of horror searching for more big names to hold up and say, "S/he's part of our club!

So I called Stan Lee up and gushed.
Earlier, I'd been talking with Perry Moore about Hero, the fateful decision on the show's future currently happening at Showtime, and walking Ben Barnes down Seasame Street, when Moore suggested I give Stan Lee a call about Hero.
I can do that?
"Sure," Perry said. He clicked through his extensive list of numbers -- and given how long he clicked, it's a big list -- then called out the digits. And I dialed.....
So, Stan Lee. I tried hard not to gush, to not tell him that he was one of those people that inspired me to write; for Cthulhu sakes, he inspired me to read. "Excelsior" was one of those words I raced to look up because Lee was always using it.
I suppose if I was real journalist -- and not a screenwriter pretending to be one -- I could...

Another sign of the times. Starlog Magazine, the legendary publication that provided geekish, genre news for those of us who came of age in the 70s, 80s and 90s, has gone "web-only." They've ceased to be a print publication, now focused only on providing their content through their newly revamped website at Starlog.Com.
For me, this was a really important mag. In the 80s, when I came of age, it was all about print to get our information. We had BBSes, and later, community forums, but that was the same thing as it is today. Starlog, and Fangoria, the sister horror publication, were the things you read to keep up with news and information for Sf/F/H stuff.
The magazine was started by Kerry O'Quinn's [DoorQ Profile] and Norm Jacobs in the 1970s. In my opinion, it was pretty key in keeping Trek alive until Tmp and beyond. Kerry's editorials influenced me,...
