A new episode of the Awfully Good Horror Movies video series has just been released, and in this one we’re taking a look at a movie that has the reputation of being one of the worst movies ever made. Actually, it’s widely considered to be the best worst movie ever made. It’s 1990’s Troll 2 (watch it Here), and you can hear all about it by watching the video embedded above!
Written and directed by Claudio Fragasso (going by the name Drake Floyd), Troll 2 has the following synopsis: When young Joshua learns that he will be going on vacation with his family to a small town called Nilbog, he protests adamantly. He is warned by the spirit of his deceased grandfather that goblins populate the town. His parents, Michael and Diana, dismiss his apprehensions, but soon learn to appreciate their son’s warnings. "Let's blast this thing!!" Our friends at Bloody Disgusting have revealed a gory teaser trailer for an extreme gross-out horror comedy called Cyst, which premiered at both FrightFest and Fantastic Fest this year. This is one of these super disgusting, gory-as-f&!k, body horror creations that may make you puke. In the 1960s, a nurse's last day is ruined when a crazy doctor inadvertently creates a cyst monster that terrorizes the office. Everybody scream! The cyst is loose! The cult horror stars Greg Sestero, Eva Habermann, Jason Douglas, Gene Jones, George Hardy, Darren Ewing, Francesca Santoro, Keturah Branch, and Kyle Roberts as the Cyst Monster. Hell yes - man in suit! My goodness this looks so revolting. But it might be ridiculous fun? Or not? Only one way to find out ha! Dive right in. But please make sure you wear a mask. Here's the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Tyler Russell's Cyst,...

It’s the early 1960s and a small-town doctor invents a machine that uses laser technology to remove skin abnormalities. He pulls out all the stops to make sure his final chance to get the patent on his ‘Get Gone’ appliance goes smoothly. But his nurse thinks the contraption is dangerous and not ready. The struggle between the two causes the apparatus to malfunction creating a giant cyst monster that goes on a bloody rampage.
Very much in the vein of the William Castle and Rgoer Corman flicks of the 50s and 60s, Cyst is – like the remake of The Brain That Wouldn’t Die which also screened as part of Frightfest – very much an homage to the films of that period, with set and costume design,...

New Video Group
Release Date: November 16, 2010
Imagine, somewhere out there in the United States of America, there is a video store that actually has a section called “Holy Fucking Shit.” It must take a very special movie to end up in that particular section, and it must take a very special audience to embrace that movie. The new documentary Best Worst Movie is about such a film.
Meet George Hardy. He’s a dentist living and working in the small town of Alexander City, Alabama. George is a really nice guy. Everyone loves the man and it’s not hard to see why. Title: Best Worst Movie Directed by: Michael Stephenson Starring: George Hardy, Michael Stephenson and Darren Ewing Horrific acting, an awful script, confusing plot twists and bad cinematography are just some of the reasons why movies flop at the box office and receive negative reviews from critics. But when all of these things are combined in one film, as is the case with the 1990 horror release ‘Troll 2,’ the project rightfully becomes known as the worst movie ever made. To celebrate the failed film’s 20th anniversary and detail how it continues to affect all of its actors today, ‘Troll 2’s child star, Michael Stephenson, directed the new documentary ‘Best Worst Movie.’ Stephenson also aimed [...]...

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 – Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint
The Next Three Days – Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde, Liam Neeson
Movie of the Week
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
The Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint
The Plot: Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on a treacherous quest to hunt down and destroy the secret to Voldemort’s immortality — the Horcruxes.
The Buzz: I am the least qualified to helm a discussion on the buzz surrounding Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. I’m the least qualified to discuss anything at all about Harry Potter, as I’ve read a mere ten pages of the first book, and only recently caught up with the films. That being said, having watched the first six films in swift succession, immersing myself in Rowling’s world, I...

Rest your wallets, folks, there are hardly any new major horror releases this week. Instead we're getting mostly re-released Blu-ray and 3D Blu-rays. Really the only thing that's piquing our curiosity is RoboGeisha!
And if you are a gamer, soundtracks to your favorite zombie killing video games are now available for playing outside of the game consoles. Excited? Not even a little?
Clash of the Titans Blu-ray 3D
Directed by Louis Leterrier
Starring Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Mads Mikkelsen, Alexa Davalos, Ralph Fiennes
If you hadn't had enough of this 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans (review) on Blu-ray DVD or in the theaters (review), this is your chance to get double- (triple-?) dip on the title with a Blu-ray 3D version. Or you can just relive it all on our Clash of the Titans page instead. Don't say we didn't warn you. If you don't already know, Clash of the Titans...

Our retrospective of the gruesome Saw franchise concludes, as Mark looks back at Saw V and Saw VI…
This article contains spoilers. Also, it was written before seeing Saw VII, so here goes...
Hurtling towards Saw VII, it has to be said that we don't seem to be building towards a climax in Saw V or Saw VI. Then again, what the franchise transforms into is a series about how the nasty Jigsaw's legacy has been taken over by the nastier Hoffman, and how Jigsaw kills people differently to Hoffman. If you're keeping up, then kudos to you.
There's more time bending with Saw V, which partly serves as 'The Secret Origins of Hoffman!' to the previous instalment's exploration of original Jigsaw, John Kramer. It opens on a copycat kill perpetrated by Hoffman before he ever met John, as vengeance against his sister's murderer. Back in the present, Hoffman doesn't seem perturbed,...

Another week in October, another bounty crop of horror DVDs and Blu-rays. This week we have home entertainment from recent theatrical releases of nightmares of the mind as well as re-releases of classic and campy horror, all with boatloads of extras.
Then there are other horror titles that are being re-released on Blu-ray or in packs for double dipping. On top of that, horror offerings from Asia, past seasons of TV shows, manga, novels, and even video games are all vying for our pocketbooks. And we still have four more weeks of October to go.
Next year October needs to begin in August.
Human Centipede: First Sequence
Directed by Tom Six
Human Centipede: First Sequence (review) was a sensation ever since its first mention. Stephen Colbert even talked about it at the 2010 Emmys Awards broadcast! The premise cannot be simpler. Two pretty American girls are on a road trip through Europe.

Release Date: May 14 Director: Michael Paul Stephenson Starring: Stephenson, George Hardy, Claudio Fragrasso, Darren Ewing Cinematographers: Katie Graham, Carl Indriago Studio/Run Time: AREA23A, 91 min. A bad thing gets better The 1990 horror flick Troll 2 features listless acting, klutzy special effects and not a single troll. It stars a whiny 10-year-old named Michael Paul Stephenson—who, two decades after the movie’s release and titanic flop, is still grappling with that disastrous first brush with stardom. Only a few years ago did Stephenson—by then an aspiring filmmaker—realize how oddly popular the movie had become, winning the strange hearts of...

When you try to explain what Best Worst Movie is about to anyone, even a lot of film fans, you're likely to receive a blank stare or a confused line of questioning. So it's a documentary about bad movies? How can it just be about Troll 2? Why would anyone make a documentary about Troll 2, a movie that few have seen except in some late night cable fever dream? My own attempts at explaining it were pretty lame: Well, because it's funny, and because Troll 2 has a cult following thanks to the Internet, the Alamo Drafthouse, and IMDb forums. People really, really love to laugh at this movie. It's just really funny, and the documentary explores the fandom, and the poor people behind Troll 2, and ... never mind.
But you shouldn't say "never mind" about Best Worst Movie. Yes, this is a documentary about Troll 2. You'll learn...

What’s the difference between a typical bad movie and a Best Worst Movie? That’s the question explored by Michael Stephenson’s highly entertaining new documentary, in which he examines the experience of being part of Troll 2—both during its shooting and in the wake of its years-later cult rediscovery. Having just played Montreal’s Fantasia Festival , Best Worst has its New York premiere tonight in Brooklyn courtesy of Rooftop Films.
Directed and written by husband-and-wife Italian filmmakers Claudio Fragasso and Rossella Drudi respectively (both credited on screen as “Drako Floyd”), Troll 2 didn’t make much of a ripple when it first hit U.S. video in 1992, and the few scathing reviews it did receive (including my own for The Motion Picture Guide, later migrated to TVGuide.com; click here if you’d like to check it out) didn’t appreciate its unique, mind-boggling and attention-grabbing weirdness.

• Monogram Releasing has announced that it will release Kevin Tenney’s zombie gorefest Brain Dead in select theaters March 20 as part of The B Movie Nation. See below for a complete list of the venues where the movie will be splattering onto screens.
Scripted by Dale Gelineau, Brain Dead (which has no connection to either the Peter Jackson film a.k.a. Dead/Alive, or the Roger Corman production with Bill Pullman) begins with a meteorite falling to Earth with an organism attached that infects a fisherman and turns him into a brain-eating ghoul. Pretty soon he has transformed numerous others into ravenous undead, and they terrorize a motley sextet of people who take shelter in a cabin in the woods. Joshua Benton, David Crane, Sarah Grant Brendecke, Michelle Tomlinson, Andy Forrest and Cristina Tiberia star; Bad Biology’s Gabe Bartalos created the copious makeup FX. You can check out...

The Rolling Roadshow that could never happen in a million years...has happened: Nilbog Invasion 2008!!
Yep, the Alamo's mobile Rolling Roadshow unit took off from Austin early in the morn on Tuesday, July 24 and ripped across the southwest to Morgan, Ut to celebrate the worst movie ever made: Troll 2. And what a celebration we'd prepared...35mm outdoor film screenings, a full-scale cast reunion, the writer and director flying in from Italy, a multiple-course Nilbog feast, contests, dancing, etc. Utah was in for a treat.
When we arrived, there was little evidence that the town of Morgan was aware of the impending partystorm. Tim and I met with the mayor and sheriff, who both gave a very tenuous green light to the proceedings, as if they feared we were a pack of bloodthirsty satanists coming to drink the blood of their grandchildren. After paying the bill at Pete's Spring Chicken Inn,...
