Narratives in the form of photography and moving images have a special power. Telling stories with visual representations of any form triggers profound processes. The hidden is lifted, the visible redefined. The creative work together with artists and actors was the greatest driving force for my activities. Free works were created that defined my career as a filmmaker and photographer for many years.
Since 2020 I am located in the Artcenter Bielefeld in Hans-Sachs-Straße 4. In recent years, I have increasingly developed documentary and narrative short and long films. These are about light and darkness. The struggles with ourselves. The self-reflexive journey and exaggerated realities in the form of fairytale-like meta-narratives. In contrast, there are documentary works that try to take a look behind the facade. To understand and rethink lifeworlds. To see conventions and make them comprehensible. To explore man and environment. I would like to continue this work together with my colleagues.
My thematic focus is on exploring different forms of identity - personal, collective, or even spatial identities. Boundaries permeate our lives and influence how we interact and communicate with each other. We are not aware of many of these processes, yet they shape much of our world. It is important to me to develop background - and thus create context.
Different challenges require different approaches, so that no uniform strategies can be defined. Developing such strategies is the most difficult of all tasks. To initiate these changes if necessary and to question them critically on an ongoing basis is a constant process. The experience gained in scenic and documentary film, as well as in photography, would be ineffective without a working method tailored to the project. The confrontation with, on the one hand, artistic and, on the other hand, media-pedagogical, journalistic and scientific methods, enables a systemic approach and, in collaboration with other freelancers, promotes the shifting of artificial boundaries. In our heads and very real.
