Bashar Al Issa, a bankrupt Middle Eastern entrepreneur and Aoife Madden, an unemployed Irish actress join up to make feature films. Their first movie will have an almost unheard-of budget for a British film of £20m. But there’s a problem – the money never actually comes in. Undeterred, Bashar and Aoife submit £8m of production accounts to the British taxman and claim £2.5m in film tax breaks. The authorities smell a rat. They investigate, arrest, and charge the producers, and then bail them.
While out on bail, the producers decide to prove their innocence by actually making a film. They hire Paul Knight, a former nightclub bouncer, now a self-made film director, whose credits are some unreleased and unfinished films uploaded to Youtube, to make their movie for just a £100,000. The title: “A Landscape of Lies.” Paul Knight recruits an unusual cast that include one of the presenters of ITV’s daytime show Loose Women,...

Get ready to say goodbye to Peter Stringfellow's trademark silver locks.
The 75-year-old nightclub owner was given a makeover on ITV's Loose Women earlier, before agreeing to part with his hair live on air for a good cause.
Peter Stringfellow at 74: 'Being a father at my age is fantastic'
Makeover panelist Gloria Hunniford said to him on today's show (October 29): "There's one thing I've got to bring up with you Peter, the hair is still really quite long... would you agree at any time to get your hair chopped?"
Stringfellow replied: "Absolutely not."
Presenter Andrea McLean then asked him: "How about if we asked you to cut it of live on air?"
After being egged on by the audience, Stringfellow said: "My wife loves it shorter, so okay, I'll do it for charity."

'Loose Women's' Andrea McLean and actress Anita Dobson have posed naked for the Women's Institute. The TV stars stripped off as part of a unique celebration for the organisation's 100th birthday and used a pair of tasty-looking buns each to hide their modesty. Talking about the shoot, Andrea - who is a regular panelist on the ITV daytime show - said: '' I tell you what, they didn't need considerably bigger buns when it came to me. A couple of Jammie Dodgers and it would have been fine! ''It was great fun though and Anita and I, we'd never worked together before and...

Loose Women anchor Andrea McLean and guest panellist Anita Dobson have recreated the Women's Institute's iconic calendar shots with some strategically placed iced buns.
The pair have become ITV's very own Calendar Girls to celebrate the centenary of the Wi, with today's show marking its anniversary.
In another shot, TV presenter McLean and former EastEnders star Dobson can be seen protecting their modesty with a pair of Loose Women mugs.
The Women's Institute was created in Britain in 1915 in a bid to encourage more women to get involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then, it has become the largest voluntary women's organisation in the UK, and counts The Queen among its 212,000 members.

Andrea McLean has insisted that she won't be the next Loose Women panelist to join Celebrity Big Brother.
Nadia Sawalha, Coleen Nolan, Carol McGiffin and Denise Welch have all appeared on recent series of the reality show, but McLean thinks Channel 5 producers "wouldn't get their money's worth" with her.
She told Digital Spy at the press night for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in London: "I've said no all along. For one, I'd be so boring that they wouldn't get their money's worth.
"I've got no idea if anyone is doing it!" she added, when asked if any of her fellow panelists have been approached about the upcoming run.
Meanwhile, McLean said that she has no intention of signing up to any talent competitions this year as she wants to enjoy her summer without being injured, as she was last year while preparing for BBC One's Tumble.

Britain's Got Talent's Hypno Dog has claimed another victim... Loose Women panellist Andrea McLean.
She and fellow presenter Nadia Sawalha sat down with the pooch named Princess plus her assistant Krystyna Lennon earlier. Naturally, the Loose Women pair looked into Hypno Dog's eyes, not around the eyes, into her eyes.
As seen in the must-watch video, a hypnotised Sawalha wakes up to think she is Janet Street-Porter, and McLean believes dogs should have the same rights as humans.
After causing a bit of controversy last month, Lennon and Hypno Dog told Digital Spy they are used to people questioning their act - but challenged cynics to come to a live show.

Tumble host Alex Jones has been joining in with trampolining training ahead of tomorrow night's show (August 23).
The presenter has clocked up some jumping practice as she is planning to open the show with an acrobatic routine alongside the series' ten professionals.
Producers are transforming the studio floor into a huge matrix of trampolines, and Jones is preparing an introduction that puts her at the heart of the gymnasts' performance.
Equipped with an empty plastic water bottle in place of a microphone, the One Show host was shown how to bounce high in the air, before controlling her landing. She was also coached on how to fall onto her back and bounce up on her feet again.
"Alex loves being part of Tumble and has been a great sport," said a show insider. "She is properly getting stuck in and definitely cranking her presenting duties up a notch.

Coleen Nolan and Kaye Adams are both returning to Loose Women later this month, ITV has confirmed.
Adams, the show's original anchor, will be back in the presenter's chair and will share the role with Carol Vorderman and Andrea McLean.
Nolan will return to a seat on the panel on Monday, October 7.
Kaye left the show in 2006, while Nolan departed in 2011 with an emotional send-off.
The duo join a lineup of panelists, which includes Sherrie Hewson, Jane McDonald, Denise Welch, Lisa Maxwell, Janet Street-Porter, Sally Lindsay, Linda Robson and Shobna Gulati.
"After two and half years away, now feels like the right time to 'come home' to Loose Women," said Nolan.
"I'm ready to embrace the show whole-heartedly again and return to the most special of places - the homes of our viewers. It's the public that have always mattered the most to me and the Loose Women audience are the most loyal of all.

Take a daytime TV star, an ex-soap actor, 10 extras and some potted palms to a quarry in Hertfordshire and what do you get? An award-winning Iraq war blockbuster, of course. Here's how the producers of A Landscape Of Lies conned millions out of the taxman
Paul Knight is not the sort of person you'd take for a fall guy. A youthful-looking but physically imposing 45-year-old, Knight makes no secret of his colourful past. "Let's just say my path up until my 30th birthday went in a certain direction," he says. As a youth, his record ran to car theft, shoplifting and breaking and entering; in "the bigger leagues", he was arrested several times but always managed to avoid prison. "I was only convicted for certain things, so I'm not going to admit to what they didn't catch me for." He hints that his godfather was Charlie Kray, and that his...

A number of Loose Women stars are reportedly facing the axe by early 2014.
ITV bosses are said to be looking to make some changes in the daytime show following a drop in ratings, according to The Sun.
Each panellist has allegedly been handed short 12-week contracts, with their place on the show getting reviewed in January.
Carol Vorderman, Carol McGiffin and Linda Robson are among the stars who may be replaced in the New Year.
Celebrity Big Brother star McGiffin and Sherrie Hewson are 2/1 favourites to go, according to the tabloid.
Jane McDonald and Janet Street-Porter follow at 3/1, while Lisa Maxwell and Sally Lindsay have odds of 4/1.
However, Denise Welch and Andrea McLean are tipped to survive the axe, bookmakers Ladbrokes has said.

Scottish TV star Andrea McLean, who appears on what seems to be the British version of The View (a show called Loose Women), was conned into starring in a Brit gangster flick called A Landscape of Lies. Four men and a woman behind the bizarre plot started out by convincing McLean and others that they were making a movie. The group told people that Hollywood stars like Jeremy Irons were attached to the million-dollar project, but their investment turned out to be a way to snag money in a tax-rebate scam to the tune of almost one million dollars. The film phonies even went so far as to create fake scripts, documents and a website. "This gritty British drama is a complex exploration of lives that will draw you into their seedy world of power, lies and betrayal. The dark...

New Loose Women panellist Shobna Gulati has told Digital Spy that she won't have a problem keeping up with the partying lifestyles of her co-stars.
Gulati started her new job as a regular on the ITV daytime show earlier this month.
The soap star was carried on to the set yesterday by a topless fireman, a reference to her Coronation Street character Sunita Alahan's recent storyline involving a blaze in the Rovers Return.
Speaking to Digital Spy at last night's (March 19) Royal Television Society Awards, Gulati said that she could "definitely" hold her own against the strong personalities on Loose Women and teased that she would have plenty of saucy tales to keep up with her co-stars.
"I'm an old girl, I've got lots of stories," she said.
Joking about the famous Loose Women drunken nights out, Gulati added: "I've got my Corrie colours. Drinking? The Loose Women are small...

London — The clue was in the title.
In some ways "A Landscape of Lies" was a typical indie film, with a tiny budget, a B-list cast and an award from an American film festival.
What made it special is that it was created solely to cover up a huge tax fraud.
Five people in Britain face jail sentences after being convicted this week of attempting to bilk the government of 2.8 million pounds ($4.2 million) in a moviemaking scam reminiscent of Academy Award-winning hit "Argo" – without the heroic hostage rescue.
Prosecutors and tax authorities say the fraudsters claimed to be producing a made-in-Britain movie with unnamed A-list actors and a 19 million-pound budget supplied by a Jordanian firm.
In fact, officials say, the project was a sham, set up to claim almost 1.5 million pounds in goods and services tax for work that had not been done, as well as 1.3 million pounds under a...

In an amazing twist, a movie that began life as a plan to defraud the public purse turned out to be a prize-winner
It could be a great movie-making satire, along the lines of Argo, or Mel Brooks' The Producers. The pitch: a team of amateur crooks concoct a bogus movie to squeeze millions in tax relief from the government. They claim it cost £20m to make; they get around £3m back. Sorted. Until the taxman asks to see the film. So the crooks hastily dupe some C-list actors into cobbling together a cheap gangster flick. The twist? Said flick turns out to be pretty good. It even wins an award.
You'd pay to see that wouldn't you? Especially if it was "based on actual events" – which this is. Last month, a gang led by actor/producer Aoife Madden became the first people convicted of defrauding the British Film Commission's tax-relief scheme.

Andrea McLean was forced to pull out of 'Loose Women' yesterday (27.01.12) after suffering a panic attack. "I've worked in the TV industry for 15 years, so of course I have experienced bullying. It Happens. But now I'm not afraid of confronting someone who is behaving badly towards me." London, Sept 20: Charges of age discrimination in showbiz industry have been brewing for some time, and now some British TV female stars have stripped off in a daring photo shoot as part of a campaign to fight ageism in TV.
'Loose Women' Sherrie Hewson and Andrea McLean went nude alongside 'Coronation Street's Beverley Callard and 'EastEnders' actress Gillian Taylforth for Best magazine's Body Image issue and proved that age doesn't matter to them at all despite trend showing that women are often denied roles on camera just because of their age.
Gillian, 56, insisted that she had found it increasingly harder to get work in television the older she gets.
"In TV, it's Ok for men to be 50 or 60, but for women it's very.
