“Nix” can mean two things in German. Aside from being the word for “nothing,” it’s also the name of a creature from local folklore. This play on the word is important to remember when diving into Anthony C. Ferrante‘s newest horror movie Nix. The Sharknado director once again brings terror to the surface as an aquatic threat exits the water and leaves death in its wake. Yet considering the title’s double meaning, the monster in question may or may not even be real.
Nix opens sometime in the past when people captured their most cherished moments with handheld cameras rather than phones. The Coyle family’s picnic by a pond turns grim as daughter Tessa (Angelina Karo) goes missing, and all signs point to her drowning in the water nearby. The present day then abruptly comes into view, and the remaining Coyle family members are still reeling from their losses.

A Stalker in the House starts remarkably abruptly, with an argument between a couple that – due to how it’s shot, performed and presented – feels like we’re watching a cheesy soap opera; as if the camera will pull out any second to reveal that we’re watching what one of this films characters is watching. But no. It’s just that A Stalker in the House is filmed with a kind of ridiculously glossy sheen that makes it look like a TV soap, continuing throughout the film. Making the finished product feel more some cheap Hallmark TV movie than and indie horror thriller… A Stalker in the House even has the glorious over the top soundtrack these types of Hallmark “thrillers’ have too!
The film follows Mike, who is an absolute psychopath.

[Note: With the film finally releasing on DVD in the UK, here’s a reposting of our Fast and Fierce: Death Race review from its US VOD release earlier this year]
What’s that? A racing film from The Asylum? By any chance was the release of Fast and Fierce: Death Race supposed to coincide with the debut of the new Fast & Furious movie? Thankfully for The Asylum they don’t have to worry about cinematic release windows being closed due to the global pandemic and instead can plow forward with their release hitting the market Before the blockbuster this film seeks to emulate ever sees the light of day! But will the gamble pay off? Can a mockbuster stand on its own two feet without a Hollywood film to hand its hook on?...

Throw all the dating apps away!
Unfortunately, in these times it's a person's best bet at meeting the love of their life, but the odds of meeting someone like Vincent are way too high for comfort.
If Her Deadly Groom wasn't anything else, it's a cautionary tale about online dating, or better yet, dating in general.
Allison should've celebrated her divorce by focusing on her peanut butter business and taking a girls' trip to an island somewhere with Brenna and Nicky. It would've saved her a lot of heartbreak, losses, and near-death experiences with handsome new hubbies.
Lifetime is known for its romantic thrillers, and to some degree, frustratingly naive protagonists. Is it even a classic Lifetime flick if you aren't on the edge of your seat yelling at the screen for some character or another to open their eyes and see what's right in front of them as plain as day?...

Lifetime kicks off its Unholy Matrimony Weekend with two deliciously devious movies about marriages gone wrong.
Her Deadly Groom premieres Sunday, July 26 at 8/7c, but before it airs, we got to speak with one of the stars of the film.
The charming, down to earth Michael DeVorzon stars as the Deadly Groom in question
TV Fanatic chatted with Michael about the role's duality, his advice for those who may encounter a Vincent, what it's like getting into character, and more.
Check it out below!
Tvf: I watched your movie, Her Deadly Groom, which was so much fun. I love Lifetime movies because they have a great way of keeping you on the edge of your seat.
Michael: Good. Cool! I'm glad you liked it.
How does it feel to star in a movie that serves as a cautionary tale against online dating?

Oh, this week is going to be good!
The new content begins on Saturday with Surviving Joe Exotic on Animal Planet, and it ends with Umbrella Academy on Friday.
In between, you'll get more of your favorites and the triumphant return of Wynonna Earp after almost two years!
Saturday, July 25
10/9c Surviving Joe Exotic (Animal Planet)
If you're one of those crazies who fell in love with Joe Exotic, you might want to look away.
How this lunatic captured the hearts of viewers on Netflix is entirely beyond me, and I found watching that series was very difficult.
Thankfully, Animal Planet had exclusive access to Joe and his zoo four months before he was arrested on murder-for-hire charges.
The result of that time is Surviving Joe Exotic, in which we'll meet some of the animals who got away from the man who quite clearly in this preview proves he has no love of animals,...
