Apple TV+ has canceled “The Mosquito Coast” after two seasons, according to media reports.
The decision arrives fresh on the heels of the end of Season 2, the finale of which dropped two weeks ago.
Loosely based on Paul Theroux’s bestselling 1981 novel, “The Mosquito Coast” stars Justin Theroux, Melissa George, Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman. The story follows Allie Fox (Theroux), an idealist inventor who puts his family in jeopardy in order to escape the U.S. government, cartels and bounty hunters.
A previous movie adaptation of the book starred Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and River Phoenix. The first two seasons served as prequel material to the Peter Weir-directed film, which came out in 1986.

Apple TV+ has canceled “The Mosquito Coast” after two seasons.
Based on Paul Theroux’s best-selling novel, “The Mosquito Coast” follows the dangerous journey of Allie Fox, a brilliant inventor and stubborn idealist, who uproots his family on a dangerous quest to find refuge from the U.S. government, cartels, and hitmen.
In the latest chapter, viewers found the Fox family barely escaping Mexico with their lives, venturing deep into the Guatemalan jungle to meet up with an old friend and her community of refugees. This new refuge creates trouble for the Foxes though when they become entangled in a conflict between a local drug lord and his family. At odds about whether to settle down or keep moving, Allie and Margot pursue different paths to secure their family’s future. The outcome of which will either unite the family or tear it apart forever. The Season 2 finale aired earlier this month.

Exclusive: Allie Fox and his family won’t be returning to The Mosquito Coast as Apple TV+ has opted not to proceed with a third season of the drama series. The decision comes two weeks after Season 2 ended its run with an explosive finale.

As part of Deadline's coverage of The Silence of the Lambs' 25th anniversary, the site has published an extended interview with director Jonathan Demme, screenwriter Ted Tally and Robert Bookman, the agent who brokered the deal that brought Thomas Harris's bestselling novel to the big screen. In a previous piece, screenwriter Ted Tally revealed/reminded us that Gene Hackman had originally intended to write, direct and potentially play the role of Hannibal Lecter; this time around, the tidbit that caught my attention was the fact that the film's ending -- which in the finished film sees Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) stalking Frederick Chilton (Anthony Heald) through an island in the Bahamas -- was considerably darker in the original script. From the Deadline story: "The Silence of the Lambs ends when Hannibal Lecter, from a payphone in the tropics, congratulates FBI Academy graduate Clarice Starling and gently warns her not to hunt him,...

As Deadline reported last Friday, Paradigm has confirmed that agents Adam Kanter and Martin Spencer have joined the agency after their abrupt exits from Resolution. Word had raced last week that this was happening, as the two agents did not want to take paycuts from their low-seven-figure salaries. The two joined Jeff Berg last year shortly after he left ICM to launch Resolution, and those agents came from CAA. At Paradigm, they should feel right at home alongside former CAA cohorts Bob Bookman, Ken Stovitz, Rand Holston and most recently Manny Nunez. Sheridan also signed with Manage-Ment’s Dan Halsted to be his manager. I kind of figured Sheridan would follow Bookie. But Wme pulled off a coup, just as the agency did when it shook loose Paranormal Activity helmer Oren Peli after his agent Martin Spencer left CAA to join Resolution. In the case of Sheridan, Wme gets a director responsible for what in my book are three bonafide classic films–My Left Foot, In The Name Of The Father, and The Boxer. He also helmed the autobiographical In America, Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ and Brothers. His last film, Dream House, was a misfire, and he had long fought to bring I, Claudius to the screen to no avail, but a good filmmaker is a good filmmaker.

Exclusive: There has been a lot of agents moving around lately, but get ready for a shocker: longtime CAA agent Robert Bookman has just given notice that he’s joining Sam Gores’s Paradigm. Bookman, who becomes a senior agent in Paradigm’s Motion Picture and Television departments starting Monday, has been a stalwart agent for CAA for more than 20 years, brokering some of the biggest buck book to movie deals ever as the co-agent for such authors as Michael Crichton and Thomas Harris. Bookie, as he is known around Hollywood, is a classy guy with good taste whose potential exit has been in the wind before. When he was not made partner, it had...

There is either a couple of football fans or Jerry Maguire/Moneyball with this year’s most liked unproduced screenplay. Close to 300 hundred film executives provided with the Black List creators a top ten of their favorite screenplays of the year and the consensus first overall pick (with 65 votes) comes from the recently featured in Variety (10 Screenwriters to Watch 2012) tandem of Rajiv Joseph & Scott Rothman and their drama which has nothing to do with enlisting in the armed forces. Frozen River producer Charles S. Cohen has acquired rights to Ben MacIntyre‘s bestseller Double Cross: The True Story Of The D-Day Spies, with plans for his production-distribution company Cohen Media Group to turn it into an international miniseries for cable and broadcast. The final installment of MacIntyre’s World War II trilogy is based on the efforts of five Allied operatives who specialized in turning German spies into double agents. They greatly aided the success of the D-Day assault and eventual Allied victory. The first two books in the trilogy from MacIntyre, an editor at the Times Of London, were Agent Zigzag and Operation Mincemeat; Crown published Double Cross in July. Stephen Dembitzer negotiated the rights deal on behalf of Cohen and CAA’s Robert Bookman on behalf of MacIntyre. On the feature film side, Cohen Media recently released Lorraine Levy’s The Other Son, starring Emmanuelle Devos and Pascal Elbe,...

Update: Vanity Fair Editor in chief Graydon Carter announced this morning that legendary Hollywood agent Sue Mengers died Saturday night at her Beverly Hills home after a number of small strokes. She was 81. Mengers was surrounded by three of her closest friends: Ali MacGraw, Joanna Poitier, and Boaty Boatwright. “Sue was unlike anyone I’ve ever met – a true original,” said Boaty Boatwright, the ICM talent agent. ”Her name became synonymous with women and what she helped us all to accomplish, but her legend is really the vitality with which she lived life, and her wit, which will be celebrated in stories throughout our community for years to come.” Reclusive in her dotage due to ill health, Mengers made her last major public appearance on May 24th, 2010, when she was interviewed by CAA’s Bob Bookman in the Ray Kurtzman Theater of the agency’s Century City headquarters. It followed...
