Remember ‘Black Adam’ released in 2022? If you don’t it’s perfectly fine since the movie was a commercial flop and panned by critics. Its only redeeming quality is the fact that Dwayne The Rock Johnson played the character, seemingly born to bring it to live action.
One of the things however that you will most likely remember if you watched the movie at all is the post-credit scene that promises a bright future for both Johnson’s Black Adam and Cavill’s Superman.
Back when the movie flopped there were rumors going around that The Rock wanted to completely change the hierarchy of power within the DC, quite literally as he allegedly wanted to take over the studio and position his own production house to the top to handle all upcoming Dceu projects.
The Wrap made an exclusive report on the whole affair a few days ago. According to...

Did you catch ‘Black Adam’ in 2022? If not, no worries. Critics panned it, and it didn’t do well at the box office. But hey, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s performance as the lead was solid, right?
But what really sticks out, especially if you saw it, is the post-credit scene hinting at a crossover with Superman.
When ‘Black Adam’ tanked, rumors swirled that The Rock aimed to shake up DC, literally. Allegedly, he sought to snatch control of the studio, putting his own production company in charge of future Dceu projects.
The Wrap recently dropped an exclusive report on the saga. Apparently, The Rock and Cavill’s manager, Garcia, plotted to boot then-DC Studios head, Walter Hamada. But their scheme was thwarted by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who were brought in to salvage what they could of the Dceu.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. In a damning and somewhat bizarre new report published by The Wrap, a string of allegations are made about Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's supposed lack of professionalism on the set of Prime Video's Red One (we'll get to those).
However, the trade has also spoken to at least four insiders with knowledge of a 2022 meeting which saw Johnson and producer Dany Garcia meet with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. The conversation was about bringing Henry Cavill back as Superman in Black Adam...and Seven Bucks Productions running DC in place of the DC Films boss Walter Hamada.
An individual close to Seven Bucks claims the meeting was only about Black Adam and meant to serve as a general introduction to Zaslav. Either way, Johnson and Seven Bucks were ousted from the Dceu when James Gunn and Peter Safran took charge of DC Studios.

When the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin comic book started coming out, it was a major hit for Idw Publishing, as well as a major moment in the evolution of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise overall. The comic book was written by Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, and Tom Waltz, and showed us a dark and grim future in which Michelangelo survived as the only remaining turtle. The story was enormously popular and it seems now that a live-action movie adaptation of the comic book is in the works.
The news comes after last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem proved to be a major hit, and while Mutant Mayhem was an animated feature, it doesn’t seem like The Last Ronin will go in that same direction.

Since their debut in the 1980s, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have grown into a permanent fixture in popular culture. From their catchy theme song to the four anthropomorphic turtle brothers, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael, the franchise has touched the hearts of fans of all ages.
And now, with the news of a reboot on the horizon, Paramount has confirmed to be developing a live-action, R-rated film based on the gripping comic book miniseries Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. So, who is in charge of guiding this vision?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin
To put it mildly, Zack Snyder seems like the perfect person to bring these Ninja heroes back to the big screen. His work on movies like 300 and Man of Steel mirrors his ability to create epic and thrilling battles, which would make him a great match for the turtles’ ninja skills and unique fighting styles.

Paramount scored a solid hit last year with the stylish and witty Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and the studio already has a sequel to that one bubbling away in a cauldron of ooze, scheduled to land in 2026. Yet it clearly feels there is room to also revisit the characters in live-action form, and to take the concept in a darker, grittier and altogether more violent direction, setting up an adaptation of popular Idw comics title Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.
Turtles comic co-creator Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz wrote the book based on an older story by Eastman and his co-creator Peter Laird, while the art came courtesy of Esau and Isaac Escorza, Ben Bishop and Eastman.

Paramount hasn’t even started their CinemaCon session yet and news is breaking like flies on a rib roast.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin based on the fan-fave graphic novel is in the works with Tyler Burton Smith writing and Walter Hamada producing through his 18hz production company, as part of his multi-year deal with the studio. The movie will be the first R-rated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Hopefully, there won’t be any naughty scenes involving turtles ala Fritz the Cat.
Smith recently co-wrote the upcoming Roadside Attractions R-rated action movie Boy Kills World which hits theaters on April 26.
Last Ronin was published as a miniseries between 2020 and 2022 and is set in a totalitarian future New York City as the Turtles and their master Splinter are assassinated by the grandson of their prime villain Shredder and his posse. One of the Turtles survives and swears revenge.

The 40-year-old, kid-friendly franchise Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is returning to movie theaters in live action, in a project that Paramount Pictures is targeting instead for adults.
The studio is developing the bloody and intense graphic novel series “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin” with screenwriter Tyler Burton Smith (“Boy Kills World”) and Walter Hamada’s 18hz production company through his multi-year deal. The 2020-2022 miniseries — written by original “Turtles” creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, with Eastman and Tom Waltz developing the script — is set in a bleak, dystopian future in which Oroku Hiroto, the grandson of the Turtles’ arch-nemesis, Shredder, rules New York City as a totalitarian despot. Hiroto has killed all but one of the Turtles, as well as their mentor, Splinter; the remaining Turtle seeks revenge by wielding all four of their signature weapons.

The "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise has been rolling and evolving non-stop since the original Mirage Studios comic book series was adapted into an animated series in 1987 and a live-action blockbuster movie in 1990, which essentially created the modern superhero comedy. Since then, there have been a variety of sequels and reboots in film and television, including the stellar animated overhaul that impressed the hell out of us in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" last year. But we're about to get another live-action "Tmnt" movie that will adapt one of the darkest comic book storylines in the franchise's history.
Paramount Pictures will be turning the hit comic book miniseries "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin" into a live-action movie. This is a huge deal, especially since The Hollywood Reporter says it'll be R-rated, a first for the franchise. Tyler Burton Smith is set to write the screenplay, with Walter Hamada producing.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was the end of the Dceu or Snyderverse that had started with Man of Steel. A movie riddled with reshoots and other production issues, it was expected to be a failed entry as of the rest of DC movies released before it. But surprisingly the Amber Heard and Jason Momoa starrer movie has made just enough to set it apart from DC’s other failed ventures.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
This feat it accomplished without the presence of Batman, as was originally planned by the DC executives. While we may never know how the movie would have turned out had the original plan been followed, here is why DC was adamant about having the Dark Knight make an appearance despite him not really fitting into the ‘released’ storyline.

The Lost Kingdom is now inside of your home, as “Aquaman 2” swims to streaming on Feb. 27.
The Jason Momoa-led superhero sequel will be available to watch on Max just two months after it debuted in theaters over the Christmas holiday.
The film — which also stars Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Randall Park and Dolph Lundgren — follows Momoa’s oceanic stud as he once again goes up against Black Manta, who threatens to unleash an evil and ancient force using the Black Trident. Aquaman teams up with his half-brother Orm, the former king of Atlantis, to put aside their differences and save their underwater world from permanent destruction.
“Aquaman 2” floundered at the box office, collecting only $123 million domestically and $433 million worldwide. Compare that to 2018’s “Aquaman,” which raked in $335 million in the U.S. and Canada alone (and more than $1.1 billion globally).

“Aquaman 2” floundered at the box office, collecting only $123 million domestically and $433 million worldwide. Compare that to 2018’s “Aquaman,” which raked in $335 million in the U.S. and Canada alone (and more than $1.1 billion globally).

Actress Amber Heard was sidelined in the new ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, the sequel to the 2018 superhero hit starring Jason Momoa. TMZ reports that according to Business Insider, Heard only appears on camera for about 20 minutes or so and while she does talk in the film, it is just a measly 11 lines apparently.
According to the portal, Heard shows up for a few action sequences toward the beginning and the end, but she’s largely removed from the main story. Even though her and Momoa’s on-screen baby serves as a central plot point.
Instead of Amber taking center stage, Momoa and Patrick Wilson end up teaming up and leading most of the film. Yahya Abdul-Mateen and Nicole Kidman are also in the mix.
Not surprising that Heard was downplayed that was being telegraphed dating back to 2022, when she was on trial after Johnny Depp sued her.

Amber Heard's removal from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has long been the subject of fan discussions after the actress became involved in a messy legal battle with her ex-husband Johnny Depp.
In September 2020, during the early days of Heard & Depp's public dispute, it was reported that Heard would still be part of Aquaman 2. However, as the actress' legal fiasco with Depp continued, rumors emerged about Heard's status in the Dceu sequel.
Former president of DC Films Walter Hamada testified during the Heard-Depp trial in May 2022, confirming that Warner Bros. initially declined Heard's option to return in The Lost Kingdom due to apparent concerns that the studio had regarding Heard's chemistry with Aquaman franchise star Jason Momoa. However, this decision was reversed prior to the sequel's production start in 2021.

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s slate of DC movies continues to move forward.
Ana Nogueira, the actress and playwright who is now making forays into screenwriting, has been tapped to pen Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a standalone feature centered on the Kryptonian cousin of Superman being developed by DC Studios.
No director is attached and Nogueira’s deal only recently closed.
The project is actually a redo for Nogueira. The writer was quietly hired to pen a Supergirl movie in 2022 when Warner Bros. was developing the project as a spinoff of The Flash, then in post-production. Flash featured Sasha Calle as the heroine and the hope was to launch another DC film franchise.
Those hopes were seemingly dashed when Gunn and Safran were brought in to oversee a reorganized DC arm. That project was tossed as the new execs focused on creating a brand new slate, separate from former...

These waters are getting choppy.
On the same day in mid-September that Warner Bros. dropped the trailer for its $215 million “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” embarrassing documents from the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial surfaced on Reddit, creating a new headache for the studio behind the film.
Depp fans paid the court fees for the release of documents from Heard’s therapist, Dr. Dawn Hughes. The raw notes, scribbled on a legal pad, were part of last year’s high-profile trial in which Depp largely prevailed. They describe a hostile “Aquaman” set where an allegedly intoxicated Jason Momoa dressed like Depp and pushed to have Heard booted from the role of aquatic superhero Mera.
“Jason said he wanted me fired,” the notes say. “Jason drunk — late on set. Dressing like Johnny. Has all the rings too.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan responded for the first time to allegations that Amber Heard’s role in the film was “paired down,” as the actress has put it.
“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first Aquaman was Arthur (Jason Mamoa) and Mera’s (Heard) journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm (Patrick Wilson),” Wan told EW recently. “So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that.”
Heard, in her testimony during her trial with ex-husband Jonny Depp, said, “I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character — without giving any spoilers away — two characters fighting with one another, and they basically took a bunch out of my role.

DC’s “Blue Beetle,” with its soft $25 million opening, is the latest superhero movie to prove that the genre isn’t the surefire box office hit it used to be. And whether or not the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are taking their toll, studios could use this time to take another look at their superhero movie strategies.
“What’s affecting superhero movies or other big IP franchises isn’t a labor stoppage,” a top agent told TheWrap. “It’s that Gen Z is now the main theatre-going demographic and they don’t care about superheroes nearly as much as Millennials and Gen X. And that’s a massive problem for Marvel/DC.”

Sunday Am: Writethru after Saturday Am Post Even though this weekend’s new entries – Warner Bros/DC’s Blue Beetle and Universal’s Strays – aren’t coming in at the top of their projections, with respective lower weekends of $25.4M and $8.3M, the overall health of the theatrical business is still in good shape. It’s being further bolstered by the fifth weekends of Barbie ($21.5M) and Oppenheimer ($10.6M), which are fueling an estimated $100.7M weekend that’s +28% over the same August frame a year ago. That was a dry spell, led by CrunchyRoll’s Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero ($21.1M).
It remains to be seen what the toll will be on today’s box office in Los Angeles from the onset of Hurricane Hilary. If it’s heavy rains, no one is going out. Blue Beetle is currently overperforming in LA.

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC’s The Flash, which hit theaters in June, now has a date for its streaming debut on Max: the superhero pic starring Ezra Miller will bow Friday, August 25.
The film, in which Miller reprised his role as Barry Allen in the superhero’s first stand-alone pic, was highly touted by incoming DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran, but it saw a sluggish bow in theaters. It opened to $55.1 million over its first three days domestically, and $64M over the Juneteenth holiday frame. Along with a similarly tepid performance overseas, all those numbers were below expectations for a DC tentpole with a budget of $200M.
The pic, directed by Andy Muschietti, is currently sitting on a $268.5 million global box office total.
Along with Miller, the ensemble cast included Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue and Michael Keaton.

There is a scene relatively early in the new "Blue Beetle" movie where its lead character, Jaime Reyes (played by Xolo Maridueña), is seen with his sister, Milagros (played by Belissa Escobedo), sitting on the rooftop of their family's house. The two are reflecting on all the trials and tribulations they and their family have been through, some of which the audience is privy to. The conversation eventually leads to them fretting about the encroachment of the movie's fictional Kord Industries and how it's been nefariously buying up land across their fictional home of Palmera City, leaving lower-middle-class families like theirs with fewer opportunities to grow. Frustrated, Milagros says to Jaime, "We live on the other side of the tracks, and now they want to take that too." For "Blue Beetle" director Ángel Manuel Soto, who is Puerto Rican, this is a line that he knew would resonate sharply with...

DC’s “The Flash” is set to stream on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max starting Aug. 25.
The first-ever standalone feature film for Barry Allen, which stars Ezra Miller and is directed by Andy Muschetti, follows the titular superhero as he uses his powers to travel back in time to change the events of the past.
But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for.
The streaming announcement comes as the film was a commercial disappointment when it hit theaters back in May. It grossed $108 million domestically and just $268 million worldwide.

Despite a highly publicized and controversial legal battle with her ex-husband Johnny Depp, Amber Heard will indeed appear in "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom." The highly anticipated sequel is a follow-up to 2018's "Aquaman," which saw Jason Momoa take on the mantle of the underwater hero. Heard appeared as Princess Mera, the love interest of Aquaman, in the first film. However, Heard's 2022 trial with Depp - which is the subject of a Netflix documentary called "Depp v. Heard" - led some to push for her to be taken out of the film. Many even signed a petition to have Heard removed by DC.
Still, Heard's involvement was confirmed when footage of the film was shown at CinemaCon on April 25, per Insider. Heard appeared twice in the teasers, making it clear that she is, in fact, in the film. Representatives for Heard and DC Studios did not respond to Popsugar's request for comment at the time.

Unlike last August which was totally lacking product after Sony’s Bullet Train, the month looks to keep chugging even as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes continue and many talent not permitted to promote. Recently, Warner Bros/DC’s Blue Beetle hit tracking with an eye on a $30M start when it opens on Aug. 18.
With Blue Beetle, Warner Bros is delivering what is arguably the first feature film superhero for Latino and Hispanic audiences. The pic was originally conceived for streamer HBO Max, developed under the DC Walter Hamada-run regime, but transitioned quite early to the theatrical release schedule.
The Angel Manuel Soto-directed pic is very hot with Latino and Hispanic moviegoers, natch, right now on tracking; the movie’s unaided awareness is soaring above that of Sony’s Gran Turismo.

Los Angeles, July 20 (Ians) Jason Momoa’s ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ production team have apparently come a long way before it will finally arrive in theaters on December 20, cutting Ben Affleck’s Batman cameo in the process.
According to a new report, the James Wan-directed pic has gone through three rounds of reshoots and held several test screenings, which were described as “uninspiring,” under three regimes at Warner Bros. The timing of the first two reshoots were not clear, but they reportedly took place between the summer of 2022 and early 2023, reports aceshowbiz.com.
Filming originally wrapped in January 2022 but by summer, Warners film boss Toby Emmerich was out and DC Films head Walter Hamada soon followed. The movie was in the middle of post-production and beginning test screenings.

According to reports, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is sailing through rough seas on its way to cinemas. A new article from The Hollywood Reporter says the sequel to 2018’s Aquaman is doggy paddling to shore after a stint of reshoots in New Zealand in mid-June, with stars Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson attending. Multiple sources say this is the film’s third round of reshoots, a number unheard of in most Hollywood circles.
Warner Bros greenlighted Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom under the leadership of former film boss Toby Emmerich and DC Films head Walter Hamada. 2018’s Aquaman earned $1.148B worldwide, becoming DC’s most successful superhero film. Even with the sequel suffering several setbacks, it’s easy to see why WB doesn’t want to let Aquaman and the Lost City drown.
After wrapping principal photography in January 2022, management ordered two reshoots. Unfortunately, test audiences were unimpressed with the results.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is in uncharted waters, with the next several weeks potentially setting its course, for good or for ill.
The sequel to Warner Bros.’ 2018 DC movie is coming off a round of reshoots that occurred in New Zealand in mid-June and involved stars including Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson, according to multiple sources.
This is the third round of reshoots for the movie, directed by James Wan. That is almost an unprecedented number, even for a movie of this scale.
Lost Kingdom has faced several headwinds as it swims toward a Dec. 20 release date. It was postponed several times (it originally was due to bow in December 2022), and like its DC movie brother The Flash, its making has now spanned three regimes at Warners.
