On the first day of the SAG-AFTRA strike in July, union president Fran Drescher was asked how long she expected it to last.
“We’re set up to go six months if we have to,” Drescher said.
It hasn’t been that long yet. But as the strike reaches the 100-day mark on Saturday, it is already the longest actors strike involving the film and TV companies in Hollywood history.
It’s also not clear that it will be over any time soon. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers suspended negotiations on Oct. 11, and there has been, as yet, no sign of a return to the bargaining table.
SAG-AFTRA has expressed frustration over the lack of talks. Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, the union’s chief negotiator, said the 100-day milestone is a reminder of how little substantive negotiation has taken place since the strike began.

The film is adapted from the book of the same name written by Beverly Olevin. "With insight and empathy, Olevin explores the mysterious world of mental illness... and the tangled ties of family." Also starring Jules Bruff, Alex Quijano, Tess Harper, Kim Estes, and Myles Grier. This looks like yet another powerfully honest story about how challenging it is to deal with mental illness,...

The Los Angeles Film Festival has announced the world premiere of Richard Linklater's Bernie as the opening night film for the 2011 festival.
The film will kick off the festival on June 16 at Regal Cinemas Stadium 14 at L.A. Live. It is written by Skip Hollandsworth and director Linklater and stars Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, and Matthew McConaughey.
The film follows a beloved mortician (Black) from a small Texas town, even winning over the town's richest, meanest widow (MacLaine). Even after Bernie commits a horrible crime, people still will not utter a bad word against him.
"We're thrilled to be opening the Festival with the world premiere of this delicious black comedy - a treat from one of the most original and exciting voices in independent film, Richard Linklater," said Festival director Rebecca Yeldham. "With its fabulous all-star cast, Bernie is a perfect stage setter for the incredible line-up of...
