Maya Rudolph opened the Mother’s Day episode of “Saturday Night Live” with a tribute to mothers — in every sense of the term.
Hosting the sketch show’s penultimate episode of the season, Rudolph began her monologue by noting she’s a four-time mom herself. “But Maya, look — you’re not just a mom,” cast member Bowen Yang reminded her. “You’re mother,” invoking the term’s use in queer slang to describe powerful, aspirational women. “You were the first to slay the house down boots, queen!”
“Who me, mother?” Rudolph asked, feigning shock. “You’re right!” The host then launched into a propulsive dance number, strutting through Studio 8H — also known as “House of Rockefeller” — in a reflective bodysuit while delivering lyrics like “Oops, I made you dance / Remember in that movie when I pooped my pants?” Other lines played on the many meanings of “mother”: “Who’s...

John Krasinski sat down with Jimmy Fallon on Friday to discuss his newest movie “If,” which he said was partly inspired by the impact the Covid-19 pandemic had on his two children, Hazel and Violet. He explained that during the pandemic, “Genuinely, I saw their light starting to go out, and they started playing fewer and fewer imaginary games.”
Krasinski said he always wanted to make a film for his children, but wasn’t sure what story would work the best. He had the idea to tie in imaginary friends “like 10 years ago,” but nothing was cemented. Over time, the imaginary world he watched his and wife Emily Blunt’s daughters disappear into inspired him.
“I used to just stand in the doorway and watch my kids disappear in this magical world that we, as parents, aren’t allowed in,” he explained. “And it wasn’t just like the joy that was on their face,...

Perhaps one of the most impressive aspects of John Krasinski’s upcoming film, If, is the all-star voice cast he lined up for it.
The multihyphenate stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday to discuss the project, and the late night host couldn’t help but ask about how the writer-director managed to get major stars to sign onto the project.
“I gotta say, the most yeses of my career was on this movie and the fastest yeses because they all love the idea of imagination, going back to your childhood,” Krasinski shared.
When discussing the ice cube, voiced by Bradley Cooper, the Quiet Place star explained, “I don’t know why when I created this guy, in my head, I was like, ‘He’s from Philly, and he’s a little bummed to be living in Arizona.'”

Famed for his acting prowess and deep, intimidating voice, Josh Brolin has now turned his guns straight at Jimmy Kimmel along with Emily Blunt, and John Krasinski after a successful combat outing with Dune: Part Two, a few weeks down the line. The 56-year-old actor boasts a wide-expanding career, with his co-stars being some of Hollywood’s most well-established and popular faces. Furthermore, he has taken it upon himself for the task of documenting these experiences thanks to another of his lesser-known skills – writing.
Ranging from sharing the screens with almost the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s cast in the last two Avengers movies to working on a host of adventure and biopic movies, the actor’s content bucket stays full.

After bringing two of the most acclaimed thrillers – A Quiet Place films to the big screen, John Krasinski took a step back from the director’s chair for his upcoming prequel film, A Quiet Place: Day One. Krasinski handed over the responsibility to Michael Sarnoski, who is now set to helm the iconic horror franchise prequel set to release on June 28.
Joseph Quinn and Lupita Nyong’o in the first look of A Quiet Place: Day One (2024)
Meanwhile, sitting for an interview with EW, Michael Sarnoski addressed his journey towards A Quiet Place: Day One, and reflected upon the film that brought him under John Krasinski’s radar. Speaking about his 2021 indie directorial debut Pig, starring Nicolas Cage, Sarnoski appeared to owe a lot to the actor for the film’s success that attracted Krasinski’s interest.

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is a more typical summer movie season-starter than last week’s disappointing “The Fall Guy” (Universal). It’s a franchise film and it’s from Disney (which usually starts things off with a Marvel film).
It’s expected to open to over $50 million this weekend and become the first to gross over $100 million domestic. Industry sources suggest that over the summer, at least eight other releases (extending to early September) will reach this mark. A week ago, that guess would gave been 10.
The same sources pegged “The Fall Guy” as likely to gross over $125 million in the U.S./Canada. This weekend will clarify its fate, but the current trajectory suggests around $80 million. That’s a disappointment for theaters as well as Universal, which spent around $140 million to make the film before marketing.
“Apes” is one of several titles now projected in the $125-$150 million range.

Horror has been one of the most reliable genres at the box office since the pandemic began. Even movies like "The Wretched" helped keep the industry's pulse going while most theaters were shut down in 2020. Unfortunately, 2024 has, up to this point, not produced a major break-out hit yet, with only indie success stories like "Immaculate" and "Late Night with the Devil" to celebrate. We've yet to have a "Smile" ($22.6 million domestic opening/$217 million global finish) or a "M3GAN" ($30.4 million domestic opening/$180 million worldwide). Lionsgate, however, hopes to change that with the release of "The Strangers: Chapter 1."
Directed by Renny Harlin, this is the first entry in a new trilogy of films that will reboot the franchise started by director Bryan Bertino in 2008 with his home invasion classic "The Strangers." As the title implies, "Chapter 1" is just the first entry in the trilogy, which has already been completely filmed.

Showrunner Greg Daniels’ sequel to hit sitcom The Office has been commissioned for a series at Peacock. Domhnall Gleeson will lead the ensemble cast.
There have been repeated talks of a revival of the American version of The Office revival in the years since it concluded. Given the success of the show, it seemed to be a question not of if, but when. We now have the answer.
Greg Daniels, who developed the American remake and served as showrunner for the majority of its nine seasons, has co-created a sequel series with Michael Konan.
Described as being “set in the same universe” as The Office, the description, via Deadline, reads as follows:
The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.

Drew Barrymore has been very open about her feelings towards cosmetic surgery. But when she was younger, there was one movie that left her feeling like she’d gone under the knife, anyway.
Drew Barrymore was in excruciating pain doing ‘Big Miracle’ Drew Barrymore | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
In 2012, Barrymore starred in the drama Big Miracle alongside John Krasinski. In the film, the talkshow host played a passionate environmental activist trying to save a group of whales in the arctic. The feature required Barrymore to be exposed to freezing temperatures constantly, which she admitted was difficult to act around.
“The director of this film, Ken Kwapis, he had us in Alaska on this ice flow, we felt like we were working in a snow globe theatre… I got to swim in freezing cold Alaskan waters with harbor seals…It felt like knives going into my body. It was insane,” Barrymore once...

The summer movie season is in need of a hero. Can the director of "A Quiet Place" and the star of "Deadpool" come together to be those heroes? That's the question we're faced with the release of Paramount Pictures' "If," a new, original, family-friendly picture that promises a magical blend of CGI and live-action involving lots of imaginary friends. So, can Krasinski pivot from mid-budget horror to big-budget family films while maintaining the same level of success?
"If" is currently eyeing an opening in the $40 million range when it opens on May 17, per The Hollywood Reporter. Early tracking had the movie falling between $38 and $42 million, though some believe it can go as high as $50 million. That would be an unqualified win for an original movie of any kind right now. That is assuming that the film does, indeed, fall in line with those early expectations. For what it's worth, Box...

“Shelter In Place. Wait Further Instructions” Watch The Scary New Trailer For A Quiet Place: Day One
“It’s the end of days. No more people.” It’s time once again to stay totally silent and totally still in the cinema when you go to see A Quiet Place: Day One. Just as audiences did in 2018 when director John Krasinski unleashed his horror film A Quiet Place on an unsuspecting public, everyone in the theater went dead quiet so as to not give away the Abbott family’s hiding places.
A Quiet Place: Part II showed the aftermath of the deadly events at home and the new terrors the family faced in the outside world. The sequel starred Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Djimon Hounsou and John Krasinski. From the opening moments of the film, the family was on the run, beyond any semblance of security and searching for refuge in a town gone mad with fear. In a time when empathy and connection...

Paramount Pictures has debuted the brand new trailer for A Quiet Place: Day One, offering a chilling new look at the upcoming prequel that will take us back to the beginning of the saga and show us what happened the day the world went quiet.
Further plot details are currently under wraps, but the trailer does seem to promise one of this summer's most enjoyable horror rides and should add some much needed backstory to the growing series, which launched in 2018 with the John Krasinski-directed blockbuster A Quiet Place and continued that story with 2021's A Quiet Place Part II.
While the second installment revealed some of what happened on Day One, showcasing how the Abbott family managed to survive the meteor crash and subsequent alien invasion, the prequel will follow an entirely new batch of characters as they do their best to make it out of New York alive.

Even though The Office ended its legendary run on NBC 11 years ago, the show remains one of the most renowned and hilarious TV Series. The sitcom show was based on the UK show of the same name, and it was solid enough to become a fan-favorite series when it first aired back in 2005. During the 9 seasons of the show, it created a massive fan following by featuring hilarious situations and how it can repeatedly be watched without the viewer ever getting bored.

After teasing the release of the new trailer for the upcoming horror prequel, Paramount has just dropped the official second trailer for A Quiet Place: Day One. The film showcases that fateful day when the invasion began and the people of New York would struggle to deal with a fatal menace that attacks from sounds. The trailer seems to be the same one that was premiered at CinemaCon this year, as the footage matches the description given by our own Lance Vlcek, who was in attendance.
While John Krasinski directed the previous two films, he is producing A Quiet Place: Day One and has passed the helming duties over to Michael Sarnoski, director of the Nicolas Cage drama Pig (watch it Here). Jeff Nichols (Midnight Special) was attached to write and direct A Quiet Place: Day One for a while, but when he dropped out he was replaced by Sarnoski.

Before the Abbott family storyline continues in a third installment of the franchise, spinoff prequel A Quiet Place: Day One will be making its way into theaters on June 28, 2024.
We’ll discover why our world went quiet in A Quiet Place: Day One, which will expand the universe of John Krasinski’s hit horror franchise. Watch the brand new trailer below.
Horror franchises spicing up their formula with trips to New York City is of course nothing new, with Day One following in the wake of films like Jason Takes Manhattan, Scream VI and Gremlins 2: The New Batch. If you had told me back in 2009 or so that one day the guy who played Jim on "The Office" was going to helm one of the most successful horror movie franchises of the 21st century, I would have first been very impressed to learn that time travel was real, then immediately questioned what sort of future you came from where this was a possibility. And yet, in 2018, John Krasinski did exactly that, joining forces with the creative duo of Bryan Woods and Scott Beck to deliver, "A Quiet Place."
Set in a world where mysterious creatures hunt by sound, forcing what's left of humanity to go silent, "A Quiet Place" is centered on a family fighting for survival. Shhh. Do you hear that? That’s the sound of the new teaser for A Quiet Place: Day One. While series creator John Krasinski has opted to do a much more family-friendly fare with the Ryan Reynolds movie If, A Quiet Place has been handed off to some pretty capable hands as Michael Sarnoski steps up to sit in the director’s seat. The new trailer will be dropping sometime tomorrow. However, the official Instagram account for the film and the film’s studio, Paramount, couldn’t wait to tease audiences with this atmospheric, Asmr-esque video which should give you the environment of the invasion as you listen to it with headphones on.

The new iteration of “The Office” has been picked up to series at Peacock, Variety has learned.
As has been previously reported, the show is not a reboot or spinoff of “The Office,” but rather a new mockumentary show with a new cast set in the same universe. For the first time since the show was first revealed to be in the works in late 2023, plot details are now available. The official logline states:
“The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”
It was also previously reported that Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore will lead the new ensemble cast, though exact character details remain under wraps. Production is scheduled to begin in July.

Stephen Amell’s performance within the Arrowverse is one that is regarded by many to be a fan favorite. He is much loved because of the same. However, post its success, there were certain controversies he found himself in the midst of. Overcoming it all, the actor still stands strong in the Hollywood industry. A legacy of the same was created upon Arrow’s end.

Ever since then, the actor hasn’t been seen in a significant superhero role. While fans want to see him once again as Oliver Queen in James Gunn’s DC Universe, that outcome is not one that can come to fruition any time soon. That is not to say that a possible entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is also out of the picture. In fact, it was Amell who proposed his interest in the same.

Four months of horror releases down, eight to go! With our 2024 Horror Preview, we’re looking ahead at some of the other horror movies we can’t wait to check out this year. For now, we’re only including movies that have a known release date, so films like the remakes/reboots of The Toxic Avenger and Witchboard are currently absent because they don’t have a release date yet, even though they’re likely to show up at some point in 2024. Here we go:

With the release of The Fall Guy this weekend, the summer movie season is finally upon us. While it’s a thinner summer than usual due to the dual writer and actors strike bringing movies to a standstill for much of 2023, there should still be a lot of stuff worth checking out, even if the summer seems short of anything that can aspire to Barbenheimer levels of success. Yesterday, we teased some of our most anticipated horror movies, so now we’re tackling the rest of the blockbusters in our 2024 summer movie preview!
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (May 10)
In my opinion, there’s never been a bad Planet of the Apes movie. Going all the way back to the classic 1968 original and its four sequels, through Tim Burton’s remake and the Caesar trilogy from Fox, all of the movies have at least been interesting. With Disney now owning 20th Century Studios,...

The Fall Guy, Universal’s romantic action comedy starring Ryan Gosling as a stunt man and Emily Blunt as a tentpole director, kicked off summer slightly below expectations on an estimated $28.5m to lead North American box office.
The film had been forecast to open in the low $30m range and Universal executives are looking at the long play and will hope it gathers momentum powered by word of mouth and an A- CinemaScore result.
Costing a reported $130m, it will need to pick up speed, just as director and former stuntman David Leitch’s previous film Bullet Train did...

Rainn Wilson: “I hope people cool it with” One The Office Prank That Immortalized Jim-Dwight Rivalry
Rainn Wilson is widely known for his role as Dwight Schrute on the NBC sitcom The Office. He is one of the popular characters in the American sitcom, particularly due to his rivalry with his co-worker, Jim Halpert (played by John Krasinski).

During the entire run, it was clear that the characters didn’t get along, particularly due to the latter pulling pranks on the former. Emily Blunt’s first Oscar nomination was for the type of role the actress doesn’t normally play. Over the course of her career, the London-born actress has played badass action heroes, musical heroines, even delightfully bitchy supporting comic parts. But in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” Blunt goes into a totally different mode to play a embittered and humorless long-suffering wife type. It’s a jarring transformation; but, given her versatility, a predictably excellent one.
Born to a former actress and barrister in London, Blunt studied acting in boarding school and began her professional career at 18, when she debuted on a West End production of the play “The Royal Family.” In 2003 she transitioned to screen acting with the British miniseries “Boudica” and “Henry VIII,” before making her theatrical film debut as a haughty, arrogant rich girl in independent drama “My Summer of Love” in 2004.

T.S. Eliot, box office pundit: The wasteland of April was the cruelest month for theaters. To say May will be an improvement damns with faint praise; April was less than $440 million, down 52 percent from 2023. What May really needs is a performance not unlike the one we saw a year ago, when “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” lead the month to just under $800 million total.
To achieve that in 2024, there are five films that must reach their potential. All are positioned to reach $100 million in U.S./Canada, although not necessarily by the end of May.
Perhaps the trickiest one to guess is the “The Fall Guy” (Universal). It has the best start-of-summer date, stars the red-hot Ryan Gosling, and received good reviews, yet the consensus among a range of insiders is it may be only the fourth biggest among May releases.

Emily Blunt is grateful for Taylor Swift’s kind gesture to her oldest daughter, Hazel.
While appearing on The Howard Stern Show earlier in the week, Blunt recalled the superstar singer-songwriter meeting her kids and gushed that Swift is the “nicest.”

Blunt recalled that in that moment, she thought Hazel “was going to faint.” “It was the best thing anyone’s ever done for my child,” she said.

This year and for the first time since the pandemic, Marvel isn’t launching the month of May. Instead, Universal jumped on the date for its new action comedy “The Fall Guy,” loosely based on the popular ’80s series starring Lee Majors. Say hello to sequel season.
That might as well be the nickname for this summer’s slate of potential blockbusters. Over the next four months, Hollywood is rolling out what it hopes will be a winning mix of follow-ups, reboots and spinoffs from tested franchises like “Despicable Me” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it looks to reinvigorate the shaky movie theater business.
Last summer flipped the script: New properties, such as “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” ruled, while entries in aging series, like “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” and “Mission Impossible 7,” missed the mark. This time out, the tried-and-true may yet prevail. Original offerings like Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s action-comedy “The Fall Guy” and Kevin Costner’s Western “Horizon: An American Saga” will attempt to lure audiences. But analysts anticipate that overly familiar brands — “Despicable Me 4,” Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2...

Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels is being renewed for Season 2, Variety has learned from sources.
The show, which stars Aldis Hodge as Cross, has yet to debut its first season or even set a premiere date. But according to sources, Amazon was impressed enough with what they have seen from the first season to greenlight the second and begin casting. Jeanine Mason has reportedly already been cast in Season 2.
Reps for Amazon declined to comment.
If “Cross” proves to be popular, it would be the latest successful Amazon series based on a long-running novel character. The company found themselves with a massive hit on their hands courtesy of “Reacher” starring Alan Ritchson, based on the Jack Reacher novels written by Lee Child. Likewise, Amazon’s longest-running series to date was the cop drama “Bosch,” based on the Harry Bosch novels written by Michael Connelly.

The domestic box office at $2 billion currently this year is dragging 21% behind the same January-April spread last year, and when Universal’s Fall Guy commences the hot moviegoing season this Friday with a hopeful $35M, expect summer to drag some more.
That’s because the lack of product due to the actors’ strike has made a backloaded May through Labor Day frame in what will be lucky —lucky— to hit $3 billion. That’s a $1 billion less than last summer’s $4.09 billion per Comscore and -27% off. More bad news about summer: It’s not going to catch up the year any more against 2023.
Essentially, expect less and hope for more. Remember, no one saw Barbenheimer and Sound of Freedom coming last summer and that trio collectively minted $1.15 billion. If anything, summer 2024 is more about getting moviegoers back into the habit of moviegoing than breaking any records.
