Is Richard Osman’s House of Games the perfect teatime quiz show? It’s certainly in contention. Silly, funny and warm, it makes very good company. The armchairs exude a sense of convivial relaxation. There are no flashing-lights podiums or tense burden of cash prizes, making it a wholly gentler experience than, say, The Chase. It keeps the same four contestants all week long, meaning that the kind of rapport other quiz shows try to manufacture in rapid-fire Q&As with the host can naturally develop. The personalities and relationships are almost as important as the rounds and questions, and it’s all done with a sense of humour – from the deliberately naff 1970s gameshow-style fondue sets and carriage clock prizes, to the enjoyable silliness behind almost every round.
To celebrate the new series airing now on weekdays at 6pm on BBC Two, here are a few fun titbits about the show.

The BBC has tapped stand-up comic Zoe Lyons to host “Lightning,” a fast-paced afternoon entertainment show to be broadcast on BBC Two.
Mixing elements of the traditional game show and quiz show, “Lightning” will have six contestants battling it out over six frenetic rounds, answering trivia questions and undertaking physical trials while trying to avoid a roving spotlight that will instantly eliminate whomever it lands on.
Award-winning comic and one-time “Survivor” contestant Zoe Lyons will play host, guiding the players towards an ultimate prize of £3,000. “It’s incredibly exciting to be the host of ‘Lightning,’” says Lyons. “It’s a dream job for me as I’m a massive quiz fan and – unlike the contestants – I love being in the spotlight.”
This 25 x 30’ format was created by Banijay Group’s Fizz (part of Rdf) and the Belfast-based Nice One Productions. The two previously collaborated on BBC Three’s “Fight Dirty,...

It’s Pink List time again, and it’s been more exciting than ever because The Independent On Sunday, the British newspaper that compiles the list of the country’s 101 most influential Lgbt people, have, for the first time, invited people to send in nominations. These votes will then be considered by the judging panel, which features the likes of Diva magazine editor Jane Czyzselska, Conservative MP Margot James, Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas and Tamsin Omond, founder of the environmental campaign group Climate Rush.
Last year, there were 31 of our kind on the list, which is still quite a few steps from equality, but this was nine more than in 2009. So, by our reckoning, there should be at least 40 women on this year’s list.
Because we love a vote and writing lists, we’ve combined the two and we’ve written a list of the ten women that we would vote for.

"Great LezBritian" is a fortnightly stroll through the very best of British lesbo-centric entertainment and culture. Plus there will be some jolly good interviews with the top ladies who are waving the flag for gay UK.
Parading yourself around a comedy stage for all and sundry to judge is not considered the most stable of career paths. But chucking a well timed punch line right in the face of stability, are some rather hilarious lesbian comedians.
Zoe Lyons, Susan Calman and Jen Brister have all been making a name for themselves on the British comedy circuit over the last couple of years and Great LezBritain has pissed many a pair of pants in the front row of their gigs.
We caught up with all three to find out how Zoe felt to be named as one of 2009’s influential British gays, why a group of lesbians once tried to ban...
