Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators wrapped up their UK/European tour in Paris on Monday (April 29th) by bringing Wolfgang Van Halen onstage for a rousing cover of the AC/DC classic “Highway to Hell.” Wolfgang’s band Mammoth Wvh served as support on the month-long run.
Kennedy introduced Wolfgang, telling the crowd, “We’re honored that we’ve been able to tour with this next gentleman and his band, ’cause I think he’s one of the most talented people on the planet.”

Slash then started playing the iconic “Highway to Hell” riff, with the rest of the band and Wolfgang joining in soon thereafter. Bassist Todd Kearns handled lead vocals on the verses, with Kennedy and Wolfgang chiming in on the chorus. At one point, Wolfgang delivered a blistering guitar solo.

Slash and Gibson have rolled out a new artist signature model guitar: the “Jessica” Les Paul Standard.
“Jessica” has been Slash’s main stage axe since 1988 and has been used primarily to perform songs from Guns N’ Roses‘ debut Appetite for Destruction. It was also his trusty guitar as a member of Velvet Revolver and remains his choice instrument in Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators.
“This guitar has been with me since 1988,” remarked Slash in a press release. “It’s faded, I fucking dropped a cigarette on it … I named it when I was drunk, but I don’t remember what the catalyst for that was!”
While not an exact replica, the new signature model is based on Slash’s original “Jessica” and features a three-piece plain maple top on a non-weight-relieved mahogany body and a mahogany neck with a ’50s Vintage neck profile.

Guns N’ Roses made their name with a gritty blend of blues-infused hard rock, but the melodic ballad “Sweet Child o’ Mine” is the band’s most commercially successful song and only No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In previous interviews, Slash has said that his opening arpeggio guitar riff was essentially a toss-off that serendipitously unlocked the song’s full potential. Bassist Duff McKagan has gone a step further, revealing that Slash was actually trying to sabotage the ballad with the guitar intro.
Speaking on the Songcraft podcast, McKagan reflected on the songwriting process for “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and the origins of the eventual hit.
“Izzy [Stradlin] had the three chords,” McKagan said (as transcribed by Ultimate Classic Rock). “Ok, well that’s… ‘What do you do with that?’ Axl liked it. ‘Ok, well let’s try to make this work somehow.’”
According to McKagan, Slash wasn’t a fan of the tune.

Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators just launched their 2024 world tour, and treated fans to a performance of “Don’t Damn Me,” a Guns N’ Roses song that Gn’R themselves have never played live.
At the tour kickoff on Tuesday (January 23rd) in Mexico City, Slash and company broke out the deep Use Your Illusion I cut with Conspirators bassist Todd Kerns handling lead vocals, as Kennedy took a breather.
Before he rejoined Guns N’ Roses in 2016, Slash was asked in a 2014 interview if he and The Conspirators would ever perform “Don’t Damn Me.” He told the SlashFrance YouTube channel (as transcribed by Ultimate Classic Rock), “There’s just too many words. You know, it’s a cool song and everything. I think even [with] Axl [Rose], we never did it because it was just too many words without a breath, and it just makes it really impossible to do it live.

Guns N’ Roses have unveiled an AI-generated music video for their recent single “The General.” The animated clip intersperses a narrative story with footage of the band performing live.
“The General” was officially released in December following its live debut a month earlier. It’s also paired with the band’s previous single, “Perhaps,” on a 7-inch vinyl version. Both songs started out as unreleased demos from Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy sessions, but were newly re-recorded with guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan, who rejoined the band in 2016.
The video shows Axl Rose and the other band members performing the song, as their human forms become animated versions of themselves. Per a press release, “Between the concert footage, [the video] dives into the subconscious of a young boy who stares down the monsters of dark childhood memories, blurring worlds in the process. Ex-Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach has released his first new solo song in nearly a decade, “What Do I Got to Lose?,” on the heels of his appearance as Tiki on The Masked Singer.
Bach co-wrote the song with fellow rock frontman Myles Kennedy and producer Elvis Baskette. It’s a chunky, mid-tempo rocker that falls right in Sebastian’s wheelhouse with its lyrical bravado and a key change in the chorus that lets him stretch his legendary vocal range.
“To me, ‘What Do I Got To Lose?’ is the perfect sentiment for me right now,” Bach said via a press release. “It’s an anthem for coming back and crushing it. It’s time to lay down the law and put the hammer down old school-style.”
The single is the first solo material from Bach since 2014’s Give ‘Em Hell and marks his first release on the Reigning Phoenix Music imprint.

Tracii Guns of L.A. Guns fame has unveiled a new band: Blackbird Angels. The group’s debut album, Solsorte, arrives September 8th, and the lead single “Shut Up (You Know I Love You)” can be heard now.
Guns formed the band alongside Todd Kerns, who is best known for his work with Slash and Myles Kennedy. Guns, it’s required listening.

The 2023 edition of Welcome to Rockville took place over four days from Thursday (May 18th) to Sunday (May 21st) in Daytona Beach, Florida. The massive rock fest was led by headliners Tool, Pantera, Slipknot, and Avenged Sevenfold, while also featuring dozens more notable acts.
The festival closed out on Sunday with Tool’s first show of the year. The performance was particularly notable in that singer Maynard James Keenan dressed in drag just days after Governor Ron DeSantis signed a new anti-drag bill into law. As for the music, the band played a brief 10-song set that included classics like “Forty Six & 2” and “Stinkfist” alongside newer tracks like “Fear Inoculum” and “Invincible.”
Elsewhere on Sunday, Incubus paused their set for a moment to help a distressed fan. The band performed with new touring bassist Nicole Row, filling in for Ben Kenney after he underwent surgery for a brain tumor. Other highlights included sets from Deftones,...

Blues rock band Ghost Hounds have offered up the new song “Dirty Angel” ahead of their forthcoming studio album, due out in June via Gibson Records.
The track has a propulsive momentum that gradually builds across its five-plus-minute duration. Piano licks and slick lead guitar flourishes play off one another, while frontman Tré Nation delivers a dynamic vocal performance that gets more intense as the song reaches its crescendo.
“‘Dirty Angel’ is a high-octane, high-energy song that is one of our favorite cuts to play from our new album that will be released this summer,” remarked guitarist Johnny Baab. “We all got in the same room and tracked this live to really capture the raw energy happening in the moment. It felt like the right move to lead with this as our first single as an appetizer for what’s to come.”

The film Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song proffers the supposition that the multifaceted and layered career of the poet/singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen can be extrapolated by studying his enduring and internationally renowned composition “Hallelujah.” While there may be far more to explore about this remarkable man’s life than can be contained in one documentary, this piece by Daniel Geller and Dayna Goldfine does an extraordinary job in doing just that.
As a whole, the film chronicles Cohen’s song, “Hallelujah,” long (and dramatic) journey from rejection to international acclaim. The film also explores the many artists for which the song served as a sort of gauge for their own creative output or spirituality.
Artists like John Cale, Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright, Brandi Carlile, Eric Church, Judy Collins, Glen Hansard, Myles Kennedy, Sharon Robinson, and Regina Spektor are all allotted ample time to extol the virtues and nuances of Cohen’s composition,...

"I will go out finishing what my hero started... Life's funny like that." Disney has launched the trailer for a documentary film called Stuntman, from director Kurt Mattila. This originally premiered at the 2018 Los Angeles Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award, but was never been released until this year. And it might be worth the wait - Stuntman will be streaming on Disney+ this month. The film follows professional stuntman Eddie Braun as he prepares for and attempts the most dangerous stunt in cinematic history – a recreation of Evel Knievel's Snake River rocket jump. With new music from rock icon Slash (featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators) and a score by Jeremy Zuckerman, this Stuntman film "straddles the line between documentary and non-fiction action film, offering a rare look into the entertainment industry's most dangerous and anonymous profession through the eyes of one of its renowned veterans...

Last year saw the music world lose Scott Weiland and Lemmy Kilmister, and so, to close out the year that took both his bandmate and his idol, Slash paid tribute to the departed the only way he knew how: by shredding all over covers of the duo's songs during his New Year's Eve concert. Performing alongside Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators in Las Vegas, the once-and-future Gnr guitarist praised the "amazingly talented, fucking original" pair, then ripped through raucous versions of Velvet Revolver's "Sucker Train Blues" and Motörhead's "Ace of Spades." The industry might be in a rocky state right now when it comes to adequately showcasing the best talent and getting it in front of the most receptive audiences, but for hard rock and metal acts, bands like Alter Bridge forever guarantee the best rewards are for those who seek them out instead.
Over the years they’ve soared like a phoenix from the embers of Creed, emerging as a band with a devout purpose; to combine the melodies and song-structures that got the post-grunge legends to the top of the charts and stadium headline bills the world over, with a hard-hitting workmanlike attitude that ensures they’d earn every seat in every chair.
So what does it mean to be an Alter Bridge fan in 2015? Do you know your Couer D’Alene’s from your Cauterize’s? Your freeform jazz interludes from your flamenco instrumentation sections?

It’s not hard to recommend a slew of phenomenal tracks when the band you’re delving into hasn’t had too many rise to the surface of mainstream recognition, but still, chances are anyone reading this has at least head of Alter Bridge. Either as “That band who used to be Creed” (although that’s starting to fade after over a decade of association), “Slash’s singer’s band” or “Those guys that did Edge’s wrestling theme song”, Ab are a band with talents elastic enough to stretch across a great many different places, becoming all three of these things – but also much, much more.
