1957 was a big year for David McCallum, the respected Glasgow-born actor known for “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” “The Great Escape” and his 20-year run on “NCIS” as quirky pathologist Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard.
From the Oct. 23, 1957, edition of weekly Variety
The actor, who died Sept. 25 at the age of 90, logged six mentions in Variety that year, starting with a review in the March 20 edition of weekly that listed him in the cast of the British “crime meller” (aka crime melodrama) “The Secret Place.” From then on, McCallum was a staple in our pages, boarding movies, TV shows and legit stages in the U.S. and U.K. He never stopped working.
Wedding announcement for David McCallum and Jill Ireland from the May 22, 1957, edition of weekly Variety
1957 was also the year McCallum married actor Jill Ireland in London, an event commemorated with a wedding announcement in the May 22, 1957, edition of weekly.

Is fiction imitating or dictating real life? The answer’s difficult to tell in the wild first official trailer for Universal Pictures and Apple Original Films’ Argylle. Described as a reality-bending spy thriller, Argylle was directed by Matthew Vaughn (the Kingsman films) and stars an abundance of big names including Oscar winner Sam Rockwell, Screen Actors Guild Winner Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help), and Henry Cavill (The Witcher).
The ensemble includes Emmy winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Lifetime Achievement Oscar winner Samuel L. Jackson, John Cena (Peacemaker), Oscar winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), and Grammy winner Dua Lipa (Barbie). Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Matthew Vaughn’s supermodel wife’s cat, Chip, also star.
Vaughn directed and Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman) wrote the screenplay. Fuchs, Vaughn, Adam Bohling, and David Reid produced, with Adam Fishbach, Zygi Kamasa, Carlos Peres, and Claudia Vaughn executive producing.

Will the real Agent Argylle please stand up?
The trailer for Apple TV+ film “Argylle,” directed by Matthew Vaughn, centers on reclusive writer Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), whose spy action hero Argylle (Henry Cavill) seemingly comes to life.
The stranger-than-fiction twist, reminiscent of “The Lost City,” leads Elly on a series of adventures with very real spies, led by Sam Rockwell, as her novel hits too close to their reality. Bryan Cranston, John Cena, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, and Samuel L. Jackson also star.
For “Barbie” fans, “Argylle” marks a reunion between fellow ensemble cast members Dua Lipa and Cena, who played the mermaid and merman dolls.
“Argylle” follows the globe-trotting adventures of super-spy Argylle across the U.S., London, and other exotic locations.

Jodie Foster and Kali Reis are Alaska police detectives with very little in common in the official True Detective Season 4 trailer.
HBO went public with a two-minute trailer this week, and it zeroes in on the fraught dynamic between the detectives as they face a series of gruesome crimes that have shocked a community.
For starters, multiple bodies are in an ice block, leading to plenty of media attention and intrigue.
How does one kill several people and leave them in an ice block for people to find?
Foster seems to be channeling Clarice Starling, one of her most iconic roles, for True Detective: Night Country, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
There's an element of ambiguity about the mystery because there are plenty of tensions in the community as they're trying to solve the crime.

Dua Lipa is about to hit the big screen again in Matthew Vaughn's spy thriller "Argylle." The world-famous singer-songwriter, fashion mogul, and podcast host added Hollywood films to her repertoire this summer thanks to her appearance in Greta Gerwig's "Barbie." Following her role as Mermaid Barbie, the pop star will add playing a femme fatale opposite Henry Cavill to her acting credentials.
On Sept. 28, Universal Pictures and Apple TV+ released the trailer for "Argylle," along with more first-look photos. Lipa sports a blunt blonde bob throughout the trailer, which early on shows her wearing a gold minidress and being lifted by Cavill in a dance sequence. A racy movie moment for the "Levitating" singer, but is this really the spy film stereotype we've become accustomed to? No, it seems. While the film's plot may appear to hit the typical spy thriller tropes, it takes a sudden turn.

In the new trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller Argylle, Dua Lipa gives a provocative preview into her portrayal of a femme fatale spy. Watch the full-length clip below ahead of the film’s theatrical release on February 2nd, 2024.
The trailer opens with Lipa gaining the upper hand against the titular spy (Henry Cavill) after a seductive dance sequence — only for him to make a daring escape with the help of John Cena. As it turns out, this scenario is straight out of an espionage novel written by best-selling author Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), who most enjoys chilling at home with her cat, Alfie.
It’s not too long before Conway’s imaginary world and reality begin to mix. “When the plots of Elly’s fictional books — which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate — begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization,...

The first trailer for “Kingsman” and “X-Men: First Class” filmmaker Matthew Vaughn new spy film “Argylle” has arrived, and it’s hardly what anyone expected. The trailer begins as a standard spy thriller with Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa getting into some sexy spy shenanigans, but then the story pulls back to reveal they’re characters in a book written by a spy novel author played by Bryce Dallas Howard.
The problem? What she thinks is fiction is actually happening, and now real-life spies are after her for outing their dealings.
Sam Rockwell plays one of those real-life spies who seemingly takes Howard’s character under his wing, but then the trailer promises a jaw-dropping twist within the film by asking audiences not to spoil the secret.

Henry Cavill never got to play James Bond, but filmmaker Matthew Vaughn perhaps gave the former Superman actor the next best thing. Cavill stars as Agent Argylle in Vaughn’s new film “Argylle,” an international super spy who is actually more real than his author even imagined.
That’s the twist of the new Apple Original Film – which Universal will also debut in theaters: “Argylle” isn’t a straightforward spy film where Cavill tangles with a femme fatale played by Dua Lipa while receiving support from his allies (played by John Cena and Oscar winner Ariana DeBose). Instead, Cavill’s Argylle is the creation of a celebrated author named Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), who finds herself unwittingly thrown into a global spy thriller because what she wrote in her fictional books ends up being more factual than she even realized. The greater the spy, the bigger the lie. That’s the tagline for Matthew Vaughn’s “Argylle,” a razor-witted, reality-bending, globe-encircling spy thriller. Vaughn is no stranger to espionage films, having already created the ‘Kingsman’ franchise and the irreverent superhero franchise, “Kick-Ass.”
The film stars Bryce Dallas Howard as a spy novel author who gets entangled with real-life spy Sam Rockwell on a mission that takes them abroad.

Following the short, cat-centric teaser we got earlier this week, the first full-length trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle has dropped and promises a fun mix of action, espionage, comedy, and romance. If you’ve been following the film’s development, it’s been something of a conundrum since it was first announced a few years ago. Initially, the star-studded film was supposed to be an adaptation of the debut novel by a writer named Elly Conway. But soon, stories began to drop that Conway seemed not to exist, and indeed, the film no longer calls itself an adaptation.
It seems the whole Elly Conway angle was a meta prank, as the movie actually enters around an author named Elly Conway, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, who’s the author of a series of novels about a secret agent named Argylle, who discovers that her books, somehow, are coming true.

Universal has just rolled out the much-anticipated official trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming spy comedy, ‘Argylle.’ This Apple Original project, crafted in collaboration with Marv, is set to hit global theaters next February. It’s a good four months early, but they’re generating buzz already!
Matthew Vaughn, who previously brought us edgy movies like the ‘Kingsman‘ series and ‘Kick-Ass,’ is the mastermind behind ‘Argylle.’ The film promises a delightful mix of sharp humor, thrilling spy sequences, and a dash of reality-altering plot twists. If you’ve watched the ‘Kingsman’ series, you know you’re in for a treat with Vaughn’s unique style.
Our central character is the world’s top spy named “Argylle.” Mind you, it’s not “argyle” as the patterned fabric. He embarks on an international mission, full of unexpected twists and turns. What adds a quirky angle to this spy narrative is Elly Conway,...

Although Henry Cavill has hung up his Superman cape, the star is set to save the world once more, this time as an international spy in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming spy thriller, “Argylle.”
Apple Original Films released the first trailer for the movie, teasing Cavill’s super-spy, Argylle, who travels around the globe conducting top-secret missions. The film, out Feb. 2, 2024, was previously said to be based on a forthcoming novel from first-time author Elly Conway — but with the trailer and movie’s official synopsis, it’s been revealed that Conway is also a character in the film. The first trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s spy drama Argylle dropped Thursday morning, and in the clip, we see more of the director’s trademark slick action and more of Henry Cavill’s disconcerting haircut.
The trailer offers more clues as to the plot of Argylle. We learn that Argylle (Cavill) is a fictional super spy dreamed up by introverted writer Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), whose life is turned upside down when her new book is a little too close to the truth for some real-life spies who begin to hunt her down. Oh, and her cat is along for the ride.
The Apple Original Film/Universal pic is familiar territory for Vaughn, with his last three films, the Kingsman trilogy, all taking place in the spy genre and all featuring his irreverent sense of humor.

At a time when the James Bond franchise had never been more serious and solemn, in came Matthew Vaughn with the "Kingsman" films.
Based (loosely) on the titular comic book series created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, Vaughn's first two "Kingsman" movies, "The Secret Service" and "The Golden Circle," are aggressively irreverent in their riff on the super-spy tropes popularized by Bond. These films are full of cartoonish hyper-violence and crass humor, from a blood-splattered single-take shoot-out in a church to one of the films' heroes sneakily planting a tracking device in someone's nether regions mid-coitus. Is it any wonder that Vaughn's prequel film "The King's Man," which he's admitted was his attempt at a stark depiction of WWI trench warfare on the level with "1917," proved to be one of the most tonally bizarre blockbusters put to celluloid in recent memory?

An online rumor recently made the rounds saying filmmaker Matthew Vaughn was next in line to take over the James Bond franchise, and it’s fitting but almost laughable. Because Vaughn, who actively sought the James Bond gig early in his directing life, has basically made an entire career of doing his own spy franchises, almost snubbing his nose at Bond in the process. He’s made the entire ‘Kingsman’ film series which has spawned three films, one of which is a prequel, and now, he’s launching a whole new spy series with Apple called “Argylle.”

There’s been some controversy surrounding Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming spy flick, Argylle. Well, controversy of the manufactured kind. When the movie was announced, it was supposed to be an adaptation of the debut spy novel by author Elly Conway, but the novel has never been released, and some months ago, outlets started questioning whether or not the author even existed.
Indeed, it seems like that question has finally been answered (maybe), with Universal sending over a teaser for Argylle’s first full-length trailer, which is set to premiere tomorrow. In the trailer, Bruce Dallas Howard looks on in terror as Sam Rockwell chucks her cat off a building ledge, for it to fall in slow motion (presumably to be rescued?), and if you look at the official logline, it reads as follows:

David McCallum, the man who brought the sexy to NBC's swinging 1960s superspy series "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and enjoyed an unexpected career resurgence via CBS' long-running procedural "NCIS," has, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, passed away of natural causes at the age of 90.
Although his character Illya Kuryakin was a Russian agent in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," the Scottish McCallum imbued the show with a British Mod-era cool that mashed up Sean Connery's finely tailored James Bond with the youthful insouciance of The Beatles. This wasn't by design. "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." was conceived as a vehicle for Robert Vaughn, but it's impossible to imagine the show gaining global traction with his cucumber-cool (occasionally frigid) American agent Napoleon Solo. To be sure, Vaughn had "it." He got the best character arc in John Sturges' "The Magnificent Seven," and died a hero's death.

David McCallum, the Scottish actor who portrayed the enigmatic Russian-born U.S. secret agent Illya Kuryakin on The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and the chief medical examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard on NCIS, died Monday. He was 90.
McCallum died of natural causes surrounded by family at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, a spokesperson for CBS announced.
McCallum also starred opposite Joanna Lumley for four seasons on the 1979-82 British sci-fi series Sapphire & Steel (she was Sapphire, he was Steel) — a show many see as a precursor to The X-Files — and played a British prisoner of war on the acclaimed 1972-74 BBC drama Colditz.
McCallum was married to British actress Jill Ireland from May 1957 until she left him for brawny actor Charles Bronson a decade later. McCallum rebounded quite nicely, though, quickly marrying model Katherine Carpenter in 1967, and his wife of 56 years survives him.

Take this with a grain of salt for now, but according to scooper Daniel Richtman, Matthew Vaughn is rumored to be the “top choice” to direct the next James Bond movie.
Matthew Vaughn has come up in regards to directing James Bond before, but he’s previously said that he doesn’t think it would ever happen. “I don’t think the Bond people would touch me with a stick,” Vaughn told ScreenRant in 2021. “I don’t think- They don’t like me. I don’t know. You know, to be blunt. I love Bond. It’s obviously a huge influence on me… You wait till you see Argylle.” He obviously has plenty of experience in the spy genre with the Kingsman franchise,...

Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro provided a little more clarity on long-gestating expansions of Walt Disney World and the resort’s Animal Kingdom experience at the company’s annual D23 fan event this morning.
First, he brought on Bruce Vaughn, Chief Creative Officer at Walt Disney Imagineering, for a “Blue Sky” look at possible developments at Disney Parks.
The future expansion plans for Magic Kingdom in Florida are the largest ever for the park, according to Vaughn. Imagineers are looking to tell stories similar in scale to things like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Pandora – The World of Avatar, which will include new attractions, restaurants, shows and more.
Zootopia has long been rumored to be one of the elements to be included in the expansion, and Parks officials revealed that a new show based on the film is being created for the Tree of Life theater at Animal Kingdom.

Drea de Matteo has joined OnlyFans. The “Sopranos” star announced her debut on the platform earlier this week by sharing a photo of herself wearing only a pair of boots. Her bio includes a reference to the series, though she jokingly wrote/avoided copyright infringement by writing, “The Sopornos.” De Matteo starred in the first five seasons of the series.
The actress made a joke about joining OnlyFans in September 2022 when she shared a video to Instagram and captioned it, “BDB3 Only Fans page coming soon jk On my back cuz @uvways hid my cherry red walker .”

September is always a bit of an ungainly transitionary period. With the youths back in school, it feels like summer is over and done, even though it technically doesn't end until three-quarters of the way into the month. It's the same situation with films and TV shows. Save for the occasional sleeper hit, most of the titles that arrive in September are stragglers with nowhere else to go. Meanwhile, the studios start gearing up for the annual awards season by bringing their best and brightest to the ritzy international film festivals in Toronto and Venice. Of course, with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers having failed to negotiate an acceptable contract with both the striking writers' and actors' guilds at the time of writing, it's anyone's guess how this fall is even going to go right now. So, in the meantime, let's look at the new films and...

Apple Original Films is making more moves in the theatrical space. The streaming service is teaming with Universal to give the Henry Cavill spy thriller Argylle a Feb. 2, 2024, exclusive global release.
It’s the latest high-profile feature that Apple has opted to grant a theatrical window ahead of its streaming debut. The company is already teaming with Sony to put Ridley Scott’s Napoleon into theaters this Thanksgiving, while it has Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon due out Oct. 6 via Paramount.
Until this year, streamers have been hesitant to give films a traditional theatrical release. However, major theater chains won’t play a title unless it has an exclusive window (generally, that means 35 to 40 days). In April, Amazon put its Ben Affleck feature Air in theaters before its streaming debut.
Argylle hails from Mathew Vaughn, who produced the film via his Marv banner. Jason Fuchs penned the script.

Like “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Napoleon” before it, a third Apple movie, “Argylle,” will get a wide theatrical release before heading to streamer Apple TV+. Also like the other two, Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller starring Henry Cavill has its own unique theatrical-distribution partner: Universal Pictures.
Martin Scorsese’s “Killers,” released by Paramount Pictures, and Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon,” distributed by Sony, will both hit theaters this fall. “Argylle” will open in theaters on February 2, 2024; we do not yet have streaming-premiere dates for any of the three.
Jumping around between theatrical-distribution partners is an unusual strategy. One would expect that Apple would cut a deal with one theatrical partner, but that hasn’t happened — yet — and it’s starting to feel like tryouts.
Alternatively, Apple could easily just buy a studio; it’s the world’s largest company by market cap. Apple rival Amazon, the second-largest company in the world by market cap,...

It looks like the dead pool is growing, as the ever-expanding cast of Shawn Levy’s Deadpool 3 could be adding some major names from the singed remnants of Fox’s X-Men franchise. As we wait patiently for the X-Men to arrive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s more than just Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine that can unite the various eras of marvelous mutants.

Brittany Matthews Defends Brother-In-Law, Jackson Mahomes, From Assault Allegations Made Against Him
Amidst Jackson Mahomes’ court troubles, his sister-in-law Brittany Matthews took to Instagram to post some cryptic messages.
“As you get older you start to understand the difference between friends and associates, family and blood, business and work, love and lust, want and need. And most of all what’s important and what’s not,” Matthews wrote on her Instagram story.
“Unfortunately, a lot of y’all met me when I lacked boundaries and was a people pleaser. Let me reintroduce myself, I burn bridges as needed,” she continued.

It’s a possibility that Matthews is burning bridges at this very moment, defending her brother-in-law and maintaining his innocence.
Mahomes, whose brother is Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was charged with three counts of sexual battery and one count of misdemeanor battery earlier this month. He was arrested on May 3 and was released after paying the $100,000 bond.

"Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" was a major commercial success when it first premiered in June 2004. At the time, the film grossed over $168 million worldwide against a $20 million budget. Its raunchy comedy, feel-good story, and hilarious cast helped make the movie a classic 2000s hit. Now, 19 years later, Deadline reports the film is officially getting a sequel, and yes, it'll star Vince Vaughn.
As you may remember, the original film starred Vaughn as Peter Lafleur, the owner of a small, local gym called Average Joe's Gym that's in danger of being taken over by his business rival White Goodman (Ben Stiller), who's the owner of the bigger Globo Gym across the street. When Peter hears about a dodgeball tournament that's giving away a $50,000 prize, he enters the competition with a group of misfits in hopes of using the prize money to save his business.

It's finally happening: "Dodgeball: A True Underdog" is getting a sequel and, what's more, Vince Vaughn will be returning as Peter La Fleur. The original comedy came out nearly 20 years ago back in 2004 and was a big hit in its day. Naturally, there was lots of talk of a sequel that never actually materialized. Now though, Vaughn has committed to the film and it is in development at 20th Century Studios, with a new writer on board.
According to Deadline, Vaughn will star in and possibly produce the sequel, which does not yet have an official title. Jordan VanDina ("The Binge") has been tapped to pen the screenplay, working from an idea that Vaughn cooked up himself. It is described as being in "early" development, so there's no word yet on a director or plot details. Rawson Marshall Thurber, of "Red Notice" and "We're the Millers" fame, wrote and directed the original film.

"Blade. Laser. Blazer." It's the Ben Stiller Dodgeball quote that lives forever on the lips of Empire's podcast team, but it appears they might have more to choose from if the long-rumoured (and occasionally gestating) sequel finally sees screens. According to Deadline, it's still in the works, with Vince Vaughn returning to star as Peter La Fleur and Jordan VanDina writing the script.
The 2004 original found La Fleur’s Average Joes gym suffering financially and facing a takeover threat from White Goodman’s (Stiller) colossal company. To score the funds necessary to stay in business, La Fleur enters a team of losers in a big dodgeball competition, coached by legendary player Patches “if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball” O’Houlihan (Rip Torn). Vince Vaughn is set to star in a long-gestating sequel to the 2004 film Dodgeball in the works at 20th Century Studios, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The original film starred Vaughn as the slacker owner of a rundown gym who gathers a group of misfits into a dodgeball tournament in order to defeat an encroaching corporate gym run by Ben Stiller. The movie grossed more than $114 million domestically on a reported budget of $20 million.
Vaughn is also expected to produce the sequel, which earlier was set up at Fox. Vaughn and co-star Stiller have long mulled the idea of a sequel, but the project has not moved forward, apparently until now.
“They’ve always talked about these things forever and I had an idea that was fun and the studio likes it, so we’ll see where it goes. I think Ben is open to doing it, I think he...

We’re not sure who asked for it, but Vince Vaughn is returning to star in a sequel to his 2004 comedy Dodgeball, reports Deadline.
The film is in early development stages at 20th Century Studios, with Jordan VanDina attached to write the script based on an idea from Vaughn. This isn’t the first time Vaughn has worked together with VanDina; the actor starred in The Binge, a 2020 parody of The Purge that was also penned by the writer.
At this time, there’s no word yet about whether Rawson Marshall Thurber — who wrote and directed the original Dodgeball — will be involved with the sequel. However, Thurber previously said “never say never” about expanding the Dodgeball universe. Vaughn, who will likely produce the movie, is the only actor currently attached.

If you can dodge a wrench, then you can dodge the curse of the crappy comedy sequel… hopefully. Deadline has reported that Vince Vaughn is set to return for the long-awaited Dodgeball sequel, which is in early development at 20th Century Studios.
The Dodgeball sequel has been scripted by Jordan VanDina (The Binge) and it’s expected that Vince Vaughn will also produce. The original movie starred Vaughn as Pete Lafleur, owner of Average Joe’s Gym. When he defaults on the gym’s mortgage, he enters a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament with his misfit friends in order to win the $50,000 prize to save their cherished gym from being taken over by corporate health fitness chain Globo Gym. Rawson Marshall Thurber wrote and directed the original movie, but it’s unknown if he will be involved in the sequel in any form.

Exclusive: Vince Vaughn will return to star in (and likely produce) a sequel to his hit 2004 comedy, Dodgeball, scripted by Jordan VanDina (The Binge), which is in early development at 20th Century Studios, Deadline has learned.
While Rawson Marshall Thurber wrote and directed the original film for 20th Century Fox, it’s not yet clear whether he’ll be involved in the sequel, and who, if not Thurber, would direct. Equally uncertain is who will join Vaughn on screen, though there’s certainly a deep bench of talent to pull from in looking back to Dodgeball‘s stacked ensemble, which included Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Justin Long, Stephen Root, Alan Tudyk, Joel David Moore, Chris Williams, Missi Pyle, Gary Cole, Jason Bateman and William Shatner, as well as the late Rip Torn.

Right-wing Christians who claim to have “prophetic” insight into America’s “spiritual warfare” are declaring Fox News’ decision to sack Tucker Carlson a victory for Lucifer.
The religious clamor around the ousting of the conservative primetime host has provided further fuel as our divided country hurtles toward another combustible presidential election.
Lance Wallnau — promoter of a seven-part plan for Christians to capture America — filmed a live video late Tuesday night in which he denounced demonic mischief behind Carlson’s departure from the network. “The devil hates [him]” Wallnau said, because Tucker...

According to various online biographies, director Jon Favreau graduated high school in 1984 and attended Queens College for only three years before dropping out in 1987. As he recently said on an episode of the "Smartless" podcast, he was immediately offered a high-paying job at the investment firm Bear Stearns, hooked up with the gig by a friend's dad. Given Favreau's age, this would definitely be considered "selling out" at the time. The easily earned, large-salary job was once something young aspiring artists eschewed, preferring a hard-earned, low-money career in the arts. Favreau was bitten by the acting bug at a young age and always had his sights turned on performance.
After about a year at Bear Stearns, Favreau quit. It seems he just barely missed Black Monday. It also seemed that he hated it. After another brief try at college, Favreau dropped out again, this time for good, and drove out...
