With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit platforms. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.
Allied (Robert Zemeckis)
That thing we can’t take for granted: a film whose many parts – period piece, war picture, blood-spattered actioner, deception-fueled espionage thriller, sexy romance, and, at certain turns, comedy – can gracefully move in conjunction and separate from each other, just as its labyrinthine-but-not-quite plot jumps from one setpiece to the next with little trouble in maintaining a consistency of overall pleasure. Another late-career triumph for Robert Zemeckis,...

Seven years after the release of Skyline, a belated sequel to the alien invasion tale is about to arrive...and it's extremely good.
DVD & Bluray
Whilst the first Skyline movie, released back in 2010, made a decent profit at the box office (almost $80 million from a $10 million-ish budget), the majority of the reviews dished out to the sci-fi yarn were not exactly kind. With 15% on Rt and a current 4.4% from users on IMDb, the film has often received widespread derision from both critics and general audiences alike.

Even in the microcosm of Den Of Geek, it has its fans and its…not fans. One reviewer here was only just recently championing the film, comparing it favourably to another sci-fi flick released around the same time, but another is historically on the other, more disappointed side, giving it two stars...

As it turns out, the secret to success in Hollywood is far less evasive than one might think. From formulaic three-act structures to the ceaseless churn of superhero franchises, it’s unusual to be surprised by a studio movie these days. One sitting through any batch of previews proves the formula extends to trailers as well, cunning exposed in a new video parody.

If winter is coming to Westeros, at least someone is baking treats for the occasion. That would be Hot Pie, whom viewers recently saw briefly reunite with Arya — and perhaps even remind her that there’s a world of comfort beyond her all-consuming quest for vengeance.
Now, Ben Hawkey, the actor who plays everyone’s favorite Westerosi baker, has actually opened a “Game of Thrones”–themed bakery.

Despite HBO’s continued support of “Confederate,” a series being developed by “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, critics of the project are planning an online protest to publicize their concerns with the project.
April Reign, who created the #OscarSoWhite hashtag to call attention to the lack of Oscar representation for people of color, has shifted her focus to “Confederate.” The series imagines an alternative historical timeline in which the South had won the Civil War, and slavery is legal. The new modernity would be set during the Third American Civil War.

We live in remarkable times, us film aficionados. Across the country it seems as though repertory theaters and art houses are opening at a never-before-seen rate and streaming services are seemingly even more prevalent. And with this comes the great honor of being part of a generation of rediscovery. Maybe you’re in middle America just now discovering Jean Renoir, or happen to be living in The Big Apple, and now have the chance to discover the work of an underrated titan of world cinema.
Starting earlier this week (and ending on 7/23), The Metrograph in New York City is introducing a new generation of film fans to the work of Geneva-born auteur Alain Tanner. Launching his career with 1969’s Charles, Dead or Alive, Tanner would go on to create an oeuvre full of outsiders, leftist politics and some of the most singular works of the golden age of world cinema.

Since its inception a few years back, The Flash has continually gripped fans by delivering a well-rounded viewing experience that capably blends superhero storytelling with crazy sci-fi action, riveting drama and a dash of comedy. Plus, it doesn’t shy away from its comic book roots in the slightest, effectively making the dreams of those who adore the source material come true on a weekly basis.
With its third season, the producers delved deeper into the books for inspiration, incorporating Flashpoint as a way of simultaneously changing the landscape and to show Barry Allen that there are consequences for his actions. Throughout it all, Cisco Ramon and Caitlin Snow finally embraced their destinies as Vibe and Killer Frost, respectively, while a new threat emerged in the form of Savitar, the self-proclaimed God of Speed.

What is it? A professional woman and her oddball father dance around their complicated relationship, both in and out of costumes.
Why buy it? Family dysfunction is a longtime staple in cinema, but no film this year captured it with such humor, warmth, and wisdom as Maren Ade’s third feature. Even at 162 minutes our time with Ines and her oddball father feels far too short as their journey of discovery becomes one we don’t want to see end. I have to admit I was expecting something big considering Six Season 1 Episode 4 opened with future flash showing one of the SEALs being extracted from the scene.
The way it was filmed made it seem like the soldier was dead, but as it turns out, the soldier in question was still breathing.
It's great that no one on the team died, but if Buck did, would we really have cared?
It wasn't surprising that someone was going to be hurt during this mission. Not only because the episode is called, "Man Down," but also because of the focus on Buck and Chase.
I was fully expecting Chase to be the man down, but he was actually the one who prevented Buck from being further injured. What I was surprised about was that the kid was actually put in the mission.

We were bound to get to a filler episode of The Flash eventually, and "Untouchable" is it...

3.12 Untouchable
Well, I went and did it. I jinxed it. After weeks of going on and on about how there was nary a filler episode in sight for much of this season, we ended up with Untouchable this week. But I'll stand by my continued confidence that this is the strongest season of The Flash ever, pound for pound, because Untouchable isn't really all that bad.
It does, however, try my patience a little. As much as this season has achieved, I feel it has done so in spite of some of its broader concepts, not because of them. I never, ever liked using Flashpoint as a villain engine, and it shows just how expertly crafted...

Like it or not, H.R. Wells is here to stay on Earth-1 on The Flash. As of the episode "Dead or Alive" H.R. has been forbidden from going back to his home earth of Earth-19, so fans and the Flash team are stuck with him. It's caused a fair bit of disappointment because unlike his previous two iterations, the season 3 version of Harrison Wells is not a great character. It's a sour lemon to learn that there is no easy way for The Flash to get rid of H.R. but perhaps the show can turn it into lemonade and finally give fans a reason to care about H.R. Wells.

Since returning from the break, The Flash continues to be on a solid streak upward as it feels more and more like itself again. The show was all over the place for awhile and struggled to regain it’s identity, but everything feels like it’s calmed down which has allowed for the natural charm of it all to return. Cisco has been a large frustration throughout season three because of his uneven and unnatural relationship with Barry over Flashpoint. A lot of the character’s problems have felt forced and even hypocritical at points; however, “Dead or Alive” manages to completely change that

Now that Cisco has pretty much gone full Vibe, the spotlight shifts back to Barry Allen in next week’s episode of The Flash. Titled “Untouchable,” which we swear isn’t the name of an upcoming hip-hop album recorded by the Scarlet Speedster, this chapter will see the S.T.A.R. Labs crew being forced to deal with a man capable of rapidly decomposing people with but a simple touch. Needless to say, this has to be one of their most nightmarish nemeses yet.
Viewers will also want to pay attention to the ongoing situation involving Iris West. It became apparent in last night’s episode, “Dead or Alive,” that she believes herself to be un-killable in the present just because she’s foretold to be murdered by Savitar four months from now.

Chicago – Guilty pleasures are the order of the day, especially when we are facing daily signs of a real, impending apocalypse. End of the world by zombies remains one of the most popular cataclysmic cinematic events and “Resident Evil” is proof. “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” proves that what should be dead can come back to life, but the real question is if it actually should.

H.R. Wells continues to be a bummer of character on The Flash season 3. After setting the bar so high in seasons 1 and 2 with iterations of Harrison Wells, H.R. is more of a nuisance than an asset to the show and team. In "Dead or Alive" The Flash introduced a new character that might have made the entire character of H.R. worth the struggle. Thanks to H.R.'s apparently illegal world hopping, the dimension-hopping bounty hunter, Gypsy, made her debut. Hopefully it is the first of many, many more appearances.

The Cisco Ramon we know and love is officially back.
And he's a badass superhero willing to go to great lengths to save H.R. on The Flash Season 3 Episode 11 "Dead or Alive."
Thank goodness the decision was made to course correct the mess that has been Cisco since Barry reset the timeline.
While I can't imagine the grief of losing a sibling, the broken, angry Cisco, who lashed out at his friends and seemed to hate his job, nearly ruined the show for me.
But that guy seems to be gone, so let's pretend those early episodes were a bad dream.
Not only did I love Cisco flirting with Gypsy, before, after, and during fights, but it was great to see the team's reactions to his inappropriate timing.
Caitlin: Are you asking her on a date?
H.R.: Are you kidding me?
Cisco: I am negotiating.

Gypsy makes her debut on the latest episode of The Flash. Here's our review.
This The Flash review contains spoilers.
3.11 Dead Or Alive
Well, here we go again. Another solid episode of The Flash. Ho-hum.
Dead Or Alive felt like a bit of a step down from the recent string of outstanding episodes. But for real, that might just be because roughly 3/4ths of this season has just been so above and beyond my expectations that it's made it tougher on installments like this one.
There's nothing wrong with Dead Or Alive. I just never really felt the stakes of it, and I feel like it brought the tension level of the last few down a little. That's fine, and it's understandable. In its defense, though, I wouldn't call this formulaic, and yet again, The Flash has found ways to make even the episodes that have less...

It is to The Flash‘s credit that an episode centered around not Barry and Any Big Bad but another team member can provide as much joy as a standard episode. Because frankly, I would have welcomed even more scenes of Cisco trying to “negotiate” with their latest adversary… over drinks? Or, how about at that great new Thai place down the street?

Now that season 3B of The Flash is in full swing, it’s time to look forward to seeing which heroes and villains from around the DC Universe will appear next. As we recently learned, it’s none other than Gypsy who will be showing up to give the S.T.A.R. Labs crew headaches.
Paying homage to the Justice League Detroit era from the comic books, it feels only natural that she share as many scenes with Cisco as possible. Granted, he challenges her to trial by combat in this advance clip, but hopefully they make up before long and have some cool team-ups in the future.

Coffee shops can be involved in meet-cutes, but in this episode of The Flash, "Dead or Alive," it's just a lead for when Gypsy comes to this Earth from H.R.'s because he's broken a pretty big law. Oh, and while Cisco and Gypsy get their flirt on, they also engage in a trial by combat for H.R.'s life.
Meanwhile, Iris is facing the fact that she could very well die in four months, and while her father, brother and boyfriend would love nothing more than for her to not pursue a story about an arms dealer, she manages to convince one of them to help her.

While their partnership may have gotten off to a slightly rocky start in last week's midseason premiere, it sounds like Barry is finally ready to take Wally under his wing over the course of the next few episodes, which should result in a lot of high-speed fun. As for when we'll get to see the duo in action, it looks like episode twelve, titled "Untouchable," is a good bet as it'll feature a subplot with the Scarlet Speedster helping Kid Flash elevate his game to the next level. Today we learned that one my favorite television actors, Dominic West, is joining the cast of the rebooted Tomb Raider franchise. You probably remember him best from The Wire, where he played Jimmy McNulty, the protagonist of the show and a character with many personal and intriguing demons. He stamped his mark on society with this character because The Wire is considered one of the best written shows of all time, and the last time I remember West was in the only decent Punisher movie ever made where he played the iconic Jigsaw.
According to THR, West will be playing Lord Richard Croft, the father of Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot. This role was originally played by Jon Voight in the Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movies a decade ago. We know Voight is Jolie's father in "real life," and while West can't claim that over the current...

In episode 11 of The Flash season 3, titled "Dead or Alive," someone from H.R.'s Earth will be showing up to take him back. Apparently, H.R.'s in a lot of trouble. How much, you ask? Well, he needs to go on trial.
According to the official episode description from The CW, "H.R.'s past catches up with him when a bounty hunter with vibe powers named Gypsy arrives in Central City to bring him back to Earth-19 to stand trial for his crime. It turns out inter-dimensional travel is illegal on their Earth. H.R. surrenders but when Barry and Cisco find out that H.R.'s only hope would be to challenge Gypsy to a fight to the death, they intercede and Cisco offers to fight Gypsy instead."...

In this trailer we get a nice little extended peak at next week's Flash episode called "Dead or Alive" and while details are scarce we do know that the character that made her way to Earth-1 at the end of the most current episode is Earth-19's (Gotham by Gaslight) Gypsy.
Gypsy has been around in the comics since 1984 and has a convoluted backstory, but she is an interesting character that in the comics has precognition and telepathic powers based on invisibility and illusion. The precognition goes hand-in-hand with one Cisco Ramon and co-showrunner Aaron Helbing has hinted that she could be his future love interest. We notice that in the trailer that she attempts a throwdown with Cisco, aka Vibe, but one thing you may have missed is just where the throw down takes place. If you will take a look at the 00:30 (in the picture above) second...

With the situation as dire as it's ever been, Barry and the S.T.A.R. Labs team try to do everything they can to prevent Iris' fate. Next week's episode takes a slight detour as we are introduced to the bounty hunter Gypsy, who's arrived on Earth-1 to arrest H.R. Luckily for H.R., Barry and Cisco decide to intervene and challenge Gypsy to a duel between vibesters. Now that The Flash has made its triumphant midseason return, it’s time to look forward to the next all-new episode, “Dead or Alive,” which we’re better equipped to do thanks to an extended trailer that the network has released.
In it, we see the producers give a bit of a nod to the Justice League Detroit days when Gypsy (Jessica Camacho) arrives on the scene with the intention of apprehending H.R. Wells and escorting him back to Earth-19. Knowing that she has a comic book history with Vibe causes us to wonder if she’ll be heard from more in the future and, should she be well received by viewers, anything is possible.

If there's one thing that's an absolute on Gotham, it's that Jim Gordon will always be one miserable S.O.B. So, if anyone thought for one minute during the opening of Gotham Season 3 Episode 1 that things were going to be all sunshine and roses for Jim, they obviously need to have their head examined.
Jim Gordon is not destined to be happy.

I can't imagine for one minute, even if Lee didn't have a new boyfriend, that she would've been happy to see Jim. He abandoned her. He basically killed their child. He chose Gotham (and Bruce) over her after he escaped from prison (though she couldn't have know that, but she would've found out).
Even 20 bouquets of roses every day for 20 years couldn't make up for any of that.
So, I'm relieved Jim didn't get the happy ending he thought he might after Gotham Season 2 Episode 22. Besides,...
