The Lion King remains, even today, as one of the most beloved Disney animated features. A true classic, the movie is considered to be one of Disney’s best animated movies, despite the fact that there were some controversies related to Kimba: The White Lion back then. Now, in 2019, Disney produced a live-action CGI remake of The Lion King which was also a solid success for the production company and we know that this year will see a prequel, titled Mufasa: The Lion King, premiere in cinemas on December 20, 2024.
So far, Disney has been scarce about releasing footage from the upcoming Barry Jenkins-directed movie, but the attendees at CinemaCon got to see the first exclusive teaser for the upcoming movie. And while the teaser has not been released online just yet, we know what was shown and we are going to reveal all of it to you here:

Few movies embody the pre-pandemic moviegoing days quite like "The Lion King," an expensive, fully CGI remake of a hand-drawn animation classic, which made over $1.5 billion in 2019 yet rarely seems to come up in pop culture conversations since its release. Whether you loved, hated, or forgot about the box office behemoth, we think its sequel, "Mufasa: The Lion King," is still worth considering. That's because the follow-up film is directed by Barry Jenkins, the wildly talented filmmaker behind Best Picture winner "Moonlight" and the recent Criterion Collection addition "The Underground Railroad," among other masterpieces.
/Film's own Ryan Scott caught an exclusive glimpse of "Mufasa: The Lion King" today in Las Vegas at CinemaCon, where Hollywood goes each year to show off the latest and greatest movies it has to offer. Director Barry Jenkins appeared at his first CinemaCon on Thursday to show off a trailer from Mufasa: The Lion King.
How did an arthouse director and Moonlight Oscar winner take on a four-quadrant movie? He wondered about that himself for a minute, he said, but he told the crowd that he’s seen the original 1994 movie 200 times with his nieces and nephews.
“When the script came to me, I was fascinated by watching these complex people dealing with complex emotions,” Jenkins told attendees at Caesars Palace Colosseum. “This film explores Mufasa’s rise to become the heroic king that we know.”

Disney is welcoming the king of the Pride Lands back to Las Vegas. The studio unveiled a stirring, all-new trailer of “Mufasa: The Lion King” on Thursday at CinemaCon, the annual convention for movie theater owners.
“Mufasa: The Lion King” is expected to focus on the early years of the eventual ruler of the animals, as well as his menacing younger brother Scar. The film will feature the voices of Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as the younger version of Mufasa (voiced by James Earl Jones in the 1994 film and 2019 remake) and Scar (voiced by Jeremy Irons in the 1994 version and Chiwetel Ejiofor in the 2019 remake).
The brief but majestic footage, which isn’t yet available to the public, explores the same stunningly realistic African savannah as its predecessor and begins with the iconic “Lion King” overture. A young Mufasa is seen leaping over rhinos and all kinds of...

Mufasa: The Lion King is coming out of the shadows and beginning to practice its roar.
On Tuesday, Disney and director Barry Jenkins played the movie’s first teaser trailer for theater owners gathered together this week in Las Vegas for CinemaCon. The teaser received a resounding round of applause for its stunning visuals and tone, and will be released in the coming weeks.
“It’s an expansive adventure,” said Jenkins when taking the stage.
The curiosity factor is running high when it comes to Mufasa. The music-infused film is an origin story and follow-up to Jon Favreau’s 2019 photorealistic movie The Lion King, which in turn was based on the 1994 Disney animated classic. “The film features the same immersive, photoreal environment that wowed audiences the first time,” said Disney global distribution president Tony Chambers.

Hopefully, all our readers are enjoying a bit of a seasonal break right now - and what better time to catch a few good films on the telly? We hope you've enjoyed the last 12 months of recommendations and would like to wish you all a peaceful and happy 2024.
The Lion King, 5.05pm, BBC1, Boxing Day
Jon Favreau had already tackled a live-action remake of The Jungle Book to great acclaim when he took on Disney's version of Hamlet. It might not reach the heights of Mowgli and his crew but this is a faithful adaptation of the original - even if the term "live action" seems somewhat weird given that we're looking at CGI creations. Nevertheless, as with Jungle Book, these animals look the business, as we watch Simba (Jd McCrary then Donald Glover) struggle with guilt over the death...

One thing you could always count on while "Community" was on the air -- or during your pandemic rewatch -- was a fantastic scene-ending line from Donald Glover's Troy Barnes. There was something just right about his scene outro quips or observations that were the perfect button. In fact, "Community" creator Dan Harmon has stated that his favorite improv line was Glover's "I have the weirdest boner" in season 1, episode 15, "Romantic Expression" after Britta (Gillian Jacobs) and Jeff (Joel McHale) try to convince him that Annie (Alison Brie) is the person he should be dating.
Glover left the series in the fifth season to work on his musical career as Childish Gambino. He's done, oh, one or two other things in addition to that, like winning two Emmy Awards; creating, starring in, and directing a number of episodes of "Atlanta"; playing Lando Calrissian in "Solo: A Star Wars Story...

Seth Rogen, who is voicing Bebop in the upcoming Tmnt movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, channeled another warthog of his, Pumbaa, who he portrayed in 2019’s The Lion King remake, taking lessons from that session to up the authenticity of his Tmnt venture.
While voice actors typically record in separate booths and/or sessions, that wasn’t always the case on The Lion King, which allowed for a looser production and more natural voices when Rogen shared a booth with the likes of Donald Glover (Simba) and Billy Eichner (Timon). That, too, helped Seth Rogen get into the mindset for Tmnt. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Rogen said, “We really went out of our way and bent over backwards on Ninja Turtles to try to capture that improvisational energy that you get when a lot of people are in the same place at the same time. I actually...

This is a massive year for Seth Rogen in the medium of animation.
First up for Rogen is Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, in which he plays Donkey Kong, the necktie-wearing gorilla who is resistant to the idea of helping Mario (Chris Pratt) and Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) rescue an imprisoned Luigi (Charlie Day). Oddly enough, the 1981 arcade game Donkey Kong marked the first of many more onscreen appearances for Mario.
For the already lively and spirited Rogen, what you hear is what you get, as the Vancouver native opted not to put on a voice for his classic character.
“This didn’t seem like one of those roles,” Rogen tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It was more about the dynamic. It’s the dynamic of this guy who hates Mario and is kind of stuck with him, and to me, that was funny. So it didn’t need...
