Producers of the Tony-nominated Broadway revival of Gore Vidals The Best Man have announced that Obie Award winner Mark Blum will permanently assume the role of Dick Jensen, the role regularly played by Michael McKean. Blum, who originated the same role in the 2000 Broadway revival, appeared off-Broadway this past year in Paul Weitzs Lonely, Im Not at Second Stage and We Live Here by Zoe Kazan at Manhattan Theatre Club.

Oscar winner James Lecesne is to step in for Michael McKean on Broadway as the Spinal Tap star recovers from a car accident in hospital.
McKean has been forced to pull out of the Tony Award-nominated Broadway revival of Gore Vidal's The Best Man indefinitely after breaking his leg in the New York street accident on Tuesday.
Lecesne, who wrote Oscar-winning short film Trevor, will replace him onstage as Dick Jensen.
The actor previously portrayed a Washington Post reporter in the play, alongside injured McKean, in his Broadway debut.
Producer Jeffrey Richards tells BroadwayWorld.com, "I have worked with Michael on three previous productions... and he has never missed a performance, and I understand from his team that he has never missed a performance in his career. So this is the kind of first we are reluctant to announce.
"He is currently in stable condition, he has a broken leg."
Richards suggests McKean will not return to the show, adding, "I look forward to working with Michael again on a future project."...

Taking the arch writing of Gore Vidal and giving those words to James Earl Jones, Angela Lansbury, John Larroquette, Candice Bergen and Eric McCormack, is nothing short of brilliant.
In the revival of "Gore Vidal's The Best Man," the Schoenfeld Theatre is decked out in red, white and blue bunting as the audience watches the behind-the-scenes maneuvering at a 1960 presidential convention in a Philadelphia hotel.
Though it is not said which party this is -- or if it is, it is certainly not stressed -- it does not matter. What matters is politics.
The play, which was also a 1964 movie, revolves around what could be a brokered convention. Former Secretary of State William Russell (Larroquette, a Tony winner last season for "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," TV's "Night Court") is running against Sen. Joseph Cantwell (McCormack, TV's "Will & Grace"). Russell is an intellectual who quotes Bertrand Russell,...
