REinvent International Sales has boarded “Second Victims,” a psychological drama directed by Zinnini Elkington which shot on location at Denmark’s Herlev Hospital.
Set against the backdrop of an understaffed stroke unit, the film follows skilled neurologist Alexandra whose unwavering confidence is put to the ultimate test when a routine case spirals into tragedy. Blame and guilt ripple through the hospital, pushing Alexandra to confront her own fallibility and the profound repercussions of medical errors. Currently in post, the film is produced by Johannes Rothaus Nørregaard for Meta Film. Sf Studios will release it in the Nordics.
“Second Victims” is led by a duo of Scandinavian stars, Özlem Saglanmak, whose credits include “Borgen,” and Trine Dyrholm, who previously starred in Susanne Bier’s Oscar winning “In A Better World” and Sundance’s Audience Award winner “Queen of Hearts.” The cast is completed by Anders Matthesen, the creator of hit franchise “Checkered Ninja,...

Seems like actress Kirsten Dunst is overwhelmingly occupied with her mommy duties to the extent that she has to carve out time just to take a shower.
The 41-year-old actress has revealed that she is so busy juggling her career with caring for her two sons, Ennis, five, and two-year-old James, whom she shares with her 36-year-old actor husband Jesse Plemons, that she spends whatever little alone time she can manage watching trashy TV shows, reports ‘Female First UK’.
Kirsten, currently portraying a conflict photographer in ‘Civil War’ on the big screen, told ‘People’ magazine: “When everyone is asleep, and I can watch the shows I want like ‘The Bachelor’. But honestly, not even a shower is sacred at this point. Nothing is.”
Describing her last “perfect” day off when asked, Kirsten said: “When you have two kids, you never have a day off. Right now it’s being on a plane with no Wi-Fi.

Jimmy Kimmel’s son, Billy, 6, and Kirsten Dunst’s son, Ennis, 5, are in the same kindergarten class. When talk about their children came up, the Jimmy Kimmel Live host couldn’t help but bring up a recent altercation between their sons.

This article contains spoilers for the "True Detective: Night Country" finale.
When "True Detective" aired back in 2014, one of the things that made it so darkly alluring was the folk and cosmic horror element. One of the most salient examples of this was the spiral symbol, which was first seen tattooed on the back of murder victim Dora Lange in the pilot episode. Alas, as the season went on, all we learned about this mysterious motif was that it was somehow tied to the cult responsible for Lange's murder and an ongoing child trafficking operation in Southern Louisiana. That and it seemed to symbolize Rust Cohle's (Matthew McConaughey) famous "Time is a flat circle" line.
After this, show creator Nic Pizzolatto largely ignored the spiral, aside from a brief mention in season 3 of the show. But then, Mexican filmmaker Issa López took over as showrunner, and in 2023, the trailer...

Detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) are the focal points of "True Detective: Night Country" for good reason. To witness a clash between two equally strong personalities is nothing short of riveting, especially when Liz and Naravarro make a solid team, despite their innate differences. The two women have been dealing with their inner demons in markedly different ways so far — while Danvers suppresses her trauma with impulsive, headstrong actions, Navarro suffers in silence and channels her rage into solving the Tsalal/Annie K. case. However, there is a third individual in Ennis who is integral to the investigation and has seldom gotten the credit: Peter Prior (Finn Bennett), and his single-minded dedication to the case needs to be talked about if we are to discuss the complicated web of conspiracies gripping the town.

This article contains spoilers for True Detective: Night Country episode 6.
Coming in at a full two episodes shorter than previous seasons, True Detective: Night Country has a lot to accomplish in its sixth and final episode.
Going into “Part 6,” viewers still don’t know who killed Annie Kowtok (Nivi Pedersen), what happened to the dead scientists (plus the missing Raymond Clark), or what’s going on with the shady partnership between Tsalal Arctic Research Station and Silver Sky Mining. And that’s not even to mention all the spooky ghosts and ghouls prowling around Ennis, Alaska.
Thankfully, the True Detective: Night Country finale provides answers to most of these questions while giving us some tools to make educated guesses about the others. Here is what happens in True Detective season 4 episode 6 and what it all means.

It’s all over now. True Detective: Night Country has made its exit after enthralling us for six weeks with one of the most exciting stories that we’ve seen in recent times. And they’ve mostly managed to answer every possible question, neatly tie up all the loose ends, and deliver an ending that should be considered a satisfying conclusion. But there’s one thing that the show has purposefully left unaddressed. And that happens to be something as big as the fate of its lead character, state trooper Evangeline Navarro. Easily the most interesting character of this story, Kali Reis’ Evangeline Navarro was certainly the heart of the season, and she complemented Jodie Foster’s detective Elizabeth Danvers so well. We’re going to talk about the character and what happened to her by the end of the story, but let us do a short recap of the...

Spoilers follow.
Well, we're five episodes into "True Detective: Night Country" and the mystery just keeps getting more... mysterious. What caused a group of research scientists to perish in apparent anguish on the Alaskan tundra? How is that linked to the murder of Annie Kowtok, an Indigenous woman whose body was found dumped in the small town of Ennis some years before the discovery of the scientist's bodies? And how does the spiral from season 1 fit into all of this?
At this point, there's all sorts of speculation among fans, including talk of pollution causing the inhabitants of Ennis, Alaska to lose their minds, and even a potential Lovecraftian creature that would finally fulfill the cosmic horror promises of season 1. Considering new showrunner Issa López's penchant for weaving the paranormal with gritty realism, as evidenced in her 2017 feature "Tigers Are Not Afraid," it wouldn't be completely out of the...

You couldn’t have seen this one coming. And evidently, Issa Lopez doesn’t care a jot about the thematic styles that True Detective has gotten you used to over the years. We’re not shying away from jumpscares anymore, and that too, more than a couple in just one episode. And the fact that they add this questionable dose of ridiculousness to the otherwise grim episode makes this choice even odder, if anything. Loss and internal chaos play Grinch in this mournful Christmas episode.

A Christmas Of Heartbreak And Mazes Of Emotions
Christmas didn’t make Ennis happy. But, just maybe, not everything that changes in the frozen town when the seemingly endless night hits it is ominous. The sporadic bursts of sensibility that aren’t totally impossible to see in someone like Danvers take on a more unmissable shape in the fourth episode, even though the circumstances are rather depressing.

It's official: we're in the Night Country now. All season, "True Detective: Night Country" has been taking viewers on a scary thrill ride through the frozen heart of a small Alaska town, but the latest episode kicked everything into an almost unbearable high gear — and finally said the show's title in the creepiest context possible. While Navarro (Kali Reis) is left grieving, haunted, and possibly disabled, Danvers (Jodie Foster) sinks lower into her own cycle of self-destruction, and both women face a type of evil that evades easy explanation.
"True Detective: Night Country" is juggling an impressive number of themes, clues, and intersecting plot points, clicking each facet of its multi-genre story together with a satisfying snap as it goes. This post contains spoilers for episode 4 of "True Detective: Night Country."
The first season of "True Detective" feels so eerie and ominous for a reason. Detectives Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) find a corpse in the Lousiana woods and end up in some old stone ruins in the bayou that symbolize the nexus of evil. The latest season, "True Detective: Night Country," also ties the evils that grip the mining town of Ennis to the nature of the town itself; the long and cold Alaskan nights underline the unforgiving nature of existence in that space. Most people in the town are cold and bitter, hardened by the cruelties of life. Some, like Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster), use their coldness to crack down on seemingly unsolvable mysteries. Others, like Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis), put on a tough front to protect the tender compassion they harbor deep within.

Some of us probably saw it coming, but Julia Navarro’s death was still a shocker. And the manner in which she died was particularly heartbreaking! The character was in extreme pain from the very beginning, and she never really had it easy, whether in the timeline of the show or in life. The world of True Detective is often cruel, and Julia’s fate is clearly an indication of that. But the obvious question that arises with it is: What does this mean? There’s no denying that Julia Navarro was suffering from a grave mental illness, most likely schizophrenia, and in the end, she just couldn’t bear the misery called life. The character’s death has extreme importance storywise and has an obvious impact on her sister, series co-lead Evangeline Navarro. In this article, I’m going to try my hand at uncovering the mysteries surrounding Julia...

True Detective: Night Country hasn’t been shy about drawing connections to season 1 of the hit crime series, down to the very clear supernatural bent of the new case, which sees Detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) investigating mysterious disappearances in rural Alaska during the region’s long polar night. Trailers for season 4 have even teased a familiar swirling symbol, the same one that a pair of odd couple Louisiana detectives followed all the way to Carcosa and the Yellow King back in 2014. In fact, with the premiere of Night Country, it really feels like we’re back in the “good ol’ days” with Rust and Marty.

"True Detective: Night Country" has arrived and looks set to be the best season since the inimitable first. The fourth installment of the anthology series features an all-new story and is overseen by an all-new showrunner in the form of Issa Lopez, who directed the entire season and wrote every episode following the departure of show creator and "True Detective" mastermind Nic Pizzolatto.
But just because this is an entirely new story doesn't mean Lopez has fully abandoned the universe established by her predecessor. In fact, the show starts with a quote attributed to Hildred Castaigne, the central character in a short story from Robert Chambers' 1895 collection "The King in Yellow." That very book provided much of the mythos in which Pizzolatto drenched his Louisiana noir all the way back in 2014. Specifically, it contained the concept of a mystical fallen city named Carcosa and the figure of the Yellow King...

This post contains spoilers for the first episode of "True Detective: Night Country."
It has been 10 years since the first season of "True Detective" aired on HBO, kickstarting an unforgettable legacy that still endures. The case at the center of this first season was mired in dark secrets and a unique brand of esoterism, coupled with the horrors of cosmic entities that may or may not have been lurking within the ruins of Carcosa. While the transgressions of the Tuttle cult were unspeakably evil, highlighting the worst that humans are capable of, there is an unmistakeable otherworldly aura to the first season, be it in the form of aerial spirals or visions that told a darker truth. "True Detective: Night Country," the fourth and latest season in the franchise, continues the tradition of dissecting a case that seems grounded in practicality but delves into the ominous supernatural in ways that call back to the original.

Through its first three seasons, HBO crime anthology True Detective liked to flirt with the occult. From Rust Cohle’s (Matthew McConaughey) otherworldly hallucinations in season 1 to the mystic hills of the Ozarks in season 3, the series frequently left the door open for realities beyond our own. Time is a flat circle, after all.
It’s only fitting then that True Detective season 4, subtitled True Detective: Night Country, has similarly cosmic origins. The season, which stars Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as detectives investigating mysterious disappearances during the perpetual night of winter in Northwest Alaska, came together in a kismet fashion. In a pre-season conversation with journalists, Night Country writer, director, and producer Issa López discussed how she was already working on a very True Detective-esque script before she got an actual True Detective call from HBO.

The fourth installment of HBO’s True Detective series is poised to be the spookiest yet. Set in the remote town of Ennis, Alaska, Night Country follows former partners Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro as they investigate the disappearance of eight researchers from a remote facility. The pair have a tense past, not only with each other, but with others in their small town.
True Detective: Night Country marks Jodie Foster’s first television appearance since the ’70s – not counting her handful of voiceover and narration guest roles in the ’90s and early ’00s – though certainly not her first time starring in a thriller. Foster is joined by a number of other talented actors, including Kali Reis, Fiona Shaw, and Christopher Eccleston.

Looking back, 2014 was truly a different time: Obama was in office, skinny jeans still reigned supreme and “True Detective” established itself with an unabashed emphasis on masculinity. Three years earlier, Ryan Murphy had revived the anthology series with “American Horror Story,” but it took the imprimatur of HBO, massive movie stars and a “serious” genre like crime to give the format real prestige. In pairing Matthew McConaughey with Woody Harrelson on a journey through the bayou, creator Nic Pizzolatto elevated some of that genre’s clichés and left others intact — including a marginal presence for women, crowded into bit roles as wives and villains to make room for portentous monologues and four-minute tracking shots.

Review: Few shows have made an impression the way the first season of True Detective did. While I enjoyed the second and third seasons of Nic Pizzolatto’s anthology thriller, neither could hold a candle to the Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey-led debut. Directed by Cary Fukunaga, True Detective was a philosophical and existential masterpiece full of quotable lines that had audiences brainstorming multiple timelines for ten weeks straight. Horror Film School is a new feature in which talent in front of and behind the camera share the ins and outs of creating the biggest onscreen scares.
Creative duo Lee Roy Kunz and Cru Ennis wrote and directed the religious indie horror film “Deliver Us,” which was just released in select theaters and VOD. Vanna White will remain with Wheel of Fortune as the show enters a new era.
White has signed a two-year contract extension to continue as co-host of the syndicated game show through the 2025-26 season. That will take her two years into the hosting tenure of Ryan Seacrest, who will take over for longtime host Pat Sajak in fall 2024.

“This is such great news,” Seacrest said in an interview with Willie Geist for NBC’s Sunday Today show. “Vanna has been such a staple on that show and in our living rooms for so many years.

On another hot morning in the late-summer heat sink of Times Square, picketers incorporated Star Trek catchphrases into chanted refrains such as “Live long and prosper/We want their offer” and “Paramount, let’s engage/We want a fair wage.”

The TV show "The Boys" has always been far kinder and more interesting than its comic book source material, and it's with the treatment of Annie, Aka Starlight, that the difference is made the most clear. Fans of most TV/film adaptations tend to get upset whenever they see changes from the source material, but not fans of "The Boys." The original comic series, written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Darick Robertson, was so crass and shallow that it feels like a miracle the TV show's as good as it's been. Introduced in season 2, new supe Stormfront (Aya Cash) followed the same path. In the comics, Stormfront appears only briefly, and doesn't have much to do or say beyond being evil and bad. The Stormfront in the show gets a whole season-long arc, one where her evil nature...
