He started out playing the fiddle when he was about 5. He eventually took up the saxophone and guitar as well.
In the 1960s, he and Dash Crofts joined the Champs after that band had recorded its signature hit "Tequila." He played sax in that group, and Crofts played drums.
After the duo broke up, he and his family moved to Costa Rica, where they had a coffee farm.
Was a childhood friend of future bandmate Dash Crofts. They grew up in the vicinity of the nearby towns of Cisco and Ranger, Texas.
