Exclusive: Mamie Gummer (True Detective), Caitlin FitzGerald (Succession) and Candice King (The Vampire Diaries) are set as leads in We Were Liars, Prime Video’s series adaptation of E. Lockhart’s YA novel We Were Liars, which hails from Julie Plec, Carina Adly MacKenzie, Universal Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
This marks a reunion for King and Plec. King was a series regular on Tvd, co-created and executive produced by Plec, and recurred/guest starred on two offshoots created/executive produced by Plec, The Originals and Legacies, reprising her role as Caroline Forbes. MacKenzie also was a writer-producer on The Originals.
We Were Liars is a tragic love story and an amnesia thriller set on a privately owned island off the coast of Massachusetts. It centers on the wealthy, seemingly perfect Sinclair family, who spend every summer on their private island. Gummer, FitzGerald and King play the three Sinclair sisters.

From a filmmaker’s perspective, it’s always fortuitous when the name of an artist’s signature work encapsulates the journey that they made in their life and career. What else to call a film about Johnny Cash? “Walk the Line,” of course. A Tina Turner biopic? “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” Aretha Franklin? “Respect,” of course. There’s a reason the forthcoming Bon Jovi docuseries is called “Thank You, Goodnight,” and not “You Give Love a Bad Name.”
A portrait of the disco luminary but not a biopic, “Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive” follows in this estimable tradition. But Betsy Schechter’s documentary — which will get a one-night theatrical release in roughly 800 theaters on Feb. 13 following a healthy festival run — also showcases why that serendipity can come at a greater price to the artist than their film’s marketing prospects: Examining the looming shadow of the singer...

The Bennett siblings are doing incredibly well, given all the revelations they're bombarded with at once.
Eleanor Covey Bennett has Lived, and she died with more secrets than any government agency around the globe!
And yet the people she left behind were still unprepared for the whopper of a secret revealed during Black Cake Season 1 Episode 5.
Oh, bless this series' heart; it has everything except the kitchen sink. Scratch that; it has plenty of those, too.
The family melodrama runs strong during this series, with enough plot twists to rival a soap opera.
At the risk of sounding redundant, this series is at its best when it focuses more exclusively on Covey or Eleanor.
Chipo Chung has a quiet way of carrying the series in the more current storylines, as Mia Isaac managed to do so phenomenally in the past.
It sucks to say it, but Benny and Byron just aren't that compelling.

Adventure Time showrunner Adam Muto explained what's unique about Fionna that sets her apart from Finn in the new spin-off series, Fionna & Cake.
Fionna is the gender-swapped version of one of the original Adventure Time protagonists, Finn. The character made her debut in Adventure Time Season 3's ninth installment where it was revealed that she, alongside her cat Cake, was Ice King's creation.
Since then, Fionna appeared in several more episodes of Adventure Time before ultimately starring in her own spin-off show with Cake from Max.

Kumail Nanjiani will not be returning to the Adventure Time universe in the new spinoff Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake and that’s because he was never informed of the offer to reprise his voice role of Prismo.
The new Max animated series will not have Nanjiani voice Prismo, something that the Eternals actor would have loved to have done again.
“Yeah that’s not me. I would have loved to have voiced Prismo again. He’s one of my absolute favorite characters I’ve ever had the honor of playing. He is very close to my heart,” Nanjiani shared in a since-deleted post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Unfortunately they never asked me to come back and voice him again. I would have done it for free.”
Showrunner Adam Muto replied to the actor denying that the production hadn’t reached out to offer him the Prismo role again.

Following Adventure Time‘s conclusion in 2018, some storytelling doors were left wide open. One unexplored idea was the multiverse, which existed in the canon long before the modern era of TV and film had multiverse mania. In the latest At limited series, Fionna and Cake, that long-awaited promise die-hard fans anticipated is finally fulfilled thanks to the canonical gender-swapped characters. And it all happens in a bold new dimension unlike any Adventure Time series to date.
Much of the original show’s audience was around pre-teen to teenage ages. Those fans are now in their 20s, experiencing new adult emotions like depression and dissatisfaction that didn’t spin through their minds as children. That all corresponds directly to Fionna Campbell (Madeleine Martin), a Bridget Jones-esque young woman living in a small studio apartment in a non-magical, metropolitan town where many notable Ooo residents are human like her best friends...

New images from the latest Adventure Time spin-off revealed a first look at an adult take on the series' primary protagonist - Finn the Human.
Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake is currently on its ten-episode run on Max, following Fionna the Human and Cake the Cat, the gender-swapped versions of series mainstays Finn and Jake the Dog who appeared in several episodes of the mainline series.
While Adventure Time was previously skewed younger, Fionna & Cake is being sold as a young adult series. This comes with a hope of picking up fans who grew up watching the original series, as Fionna and Cake go on a "multi-verse hopping journey of self-discovery" (via Warner Bros.)

The rise of downloadable patches has been a blessing for modern fighting games. Many modern fighters have expanded their rosters of playable characters through Dlc, which has given rise to countless leaks and rumors. For instance, the Super Smash Bros. community regularly tries its hardest to discover all the season pass fighters that will appear in the game. As such, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the MultiVersus community is currently doing the same.
Like other platformer fighting games before it, MultiVersus launched with a healthy, if small, collection of playable characters. Everything from fan-favorite DC characters such as Batman and Superman to Loony Tunes favorites such as Bugs Bunny and Taz. Of course, Warner Bros.’s influence extends well beyond those properties. There’s a truly wild range of characters who could theoretically appear in the game.

As the networks prepare to launch their new fall TV seasons, Fox is making a change at the top. Michael Thorn has been named Fox’s new entertainment president, replacing David Madden, who is exiting the network after three years and is rumored to be in contention for the top AMC programming job (which has been empty since Joel Stillerman moved to Hulu).
Thorn was most recently executive vice president of development at 20th Century Fox TV, where he worked on series including the NBC hit “This Is Us,” as well as Fox’s “Empire,” ABC’s “Speechless” and CBS’ “Life in Pieces.” He reports to Fox TV Group chairmen/CEOs Gary Newman and Dana Walden, who announced the appointment on Wednesday morning.
“We’ve worked with Michael for the past decade, and in terms of creative chops and leadership skills, he’s one of the best,” Newman and Walden said in a joint statement.

Sundance deals accrue such legend that it’s easy to forget the ones that materialize out of nowhere. Such was the case 20 years ago to this day, when Miguel Arteta’s first feature “Star Maps” premiered at the festival and landed a $2.5 million deal with Fox Searchlight.
The movie, which tells the story of a Latin American teen (Douglas Spain) who works as a bisexual hustler while harboring dreams of movie stardom, became an overnight sensation at Sundance — and also turned Arteta into a permanent member of the festival family. Since then he’s returned with “Chuck & Buck” (2000) and with “The Good Girl” (2002); tonight he screens his latest effort, “Beatriz at Dinner” out of competition.
The “Star Maps” deal also marked a historic moment for this site. At roughly a year old, IndieWire was establishing itself as a nimble digital upstart that had accrued popularity at Sundance, where it published a daily print edition.

Can you bake a nerdy cake for around a fiver? Enter our competition! These 4 writers' entries get the ball rolling...
People have a right to cake. That's why Madeira sponge is at the top of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.
With the imminent demise of The Great British Bake-Off in its current form, Den Of Geek saw a gap in the cake-based competion market and duly filled it. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Geeks Bake Things!
The idea is simple: make a nerdily themed cake for something in the area of five pounds (we're not expecting receipts but don't go mad), send us in a picture to denofgeek@yahoo.com and you could win something brilliant out of our cupboard. The deadline for entries is one week from today, Tuesday the 27th of September.
Four writers below tried it, and here's how they got on...

Kiefer Sutherland‘s new ABC thriller Designated Survivor is the ultimate marquee drama series mashup. “There are a few tones at play in the show,” explained exec producer Jon Harmon Feldman at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Thursday. “There is a West Wing component of a man and his team governing our nation in this time. There’s also the Homeland aspect of an investigation and the conspiracy. And it’s also got a House of Cards component, which is the characters and the business of government through the eyes of these characters and political dealings and dealmakers.

Welcome to the eighth installment of our summer trip through "The Sopranos" season 1. When I revisited early seasons of "The Wire," as well as the whole run of "Deadwood," I did separate versions of each review for newcomers and veterans, but over time realized that the newcomers weren't commenting much, if at all, and that it therefore made sense to simply do one review. Any significant spoilers for episodes beyond the one being reviewed will be contained in a separate section at the end of the review; so long as you avoid that, and the comments, you should be fine. Thoughts on the eighth episode, “The Legend of Tennessee Moltisanti," coming up just as soon as I devote my energies to the dignity of Connie Francis... "Where's my arc?" -Christopher And here we come to the meta — before it was even 100% meta. "The Sopranos" quickly became a hit for HBO...

Episode six leaves one candidate clearly in the frame for the Sandbrook murders now, but did they really kill Pippa Gillespie?

The unravelling personality of Claire Ripley was the meat of this week’s Broadchurch episode. Is Eve Myles’ character psycho, nympho, klepto, or drongo, boyo? (One thing she obviously isn’t is a decent hairdresser – Ellie’s ‘do hadn’t changed a lick despite all her al fresco twiddling and prodding.)
Claire spent the episode demonstrating the many and varied ways she could be the Sandbrook killer. First, she took out her post-eviction stress on a box of Cornflakes in a violent tantrum that almost certainly lost Hardy his deposit from Massive Cottages For Hobbyist Witness Protection Programmes R Us. Next, she and Lee punctuated their angry, abusive sex with vague comments alluding to how they “had a plan” and “can’t do this”. And...

A former drummer for the alternative rock band Cake has been sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison for molesting a 3-year-old girl during a Thanksgiving party five years ago. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office said Tuesday that 48-year-old Peter Ivan McNeal was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life. In March 2013, jurors found McNeal guilty of one count of oral copulation of a child 10 years old or younger. Deputy District Attorney Elena Abramson says McNeal molested the girl at a Laurel Canyon home in 2009 during a Thanksgiving party, where he was a guest.

The book has been thrown at Peter Ivan McNeal. The 48-year-old musician and former drummer for alt-rock band Cake was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years to life in prison after being convicted of molesting a 3-year-old girl, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday. A jury found McNeal guilty in March 2013 of one count of oral copulation of a child 10 years old or younger. In addition to his prison term, he must register as a sex offender for life. Per Deputy District Attorney Elena Abramson, the crime took place on Thanksgiving in 2009 at a home in L.A.'s Laurel Canyon, where McNeal was a guest. McNeal hasn't played with Cake for a good 10 years, joining the band...

For the first of five nights playing "Late Show With David Letterman," the Foo Fighters brought with them a special guest to cover a very special song. Dave Grohl and co. drafted the help of their pal Zac Brown (who appears on their upcoming album "Sonic Highways") for a faithful cover of Black Sabbath's seminal anti-war anthem "War Pigs." With the addition of roots rocker Brown, the performance features no less than four guitars, but they still can't measure up to the de-tuned menace of Sabbath axeman Tommy Iommi. The vocals are performed by both Brown and Grohl (if you can see him behind all that hair), but likewise can't replicate Ozzy Osbourne's original performance. Still, they're clearly having one hell of a fun time. Watch it here: Fun fact: "War Pigs" has also been covered by bands like The Flaming Lips, Faith No More, Cake and Quasi.

Previously on Pretty Little Liars, Ashley and Hanna continued the Bonnie and Cylde routine they started back in season one, but robbing trains and widows had gotten so tiresome they decided to up the ante by killing a police detective and burying his car in a trout pond. Emily drove all around town looking for ways to prove that Toby is not on the A-team, but all she got for her effort was a smashed up Beautiful Toyota window and a tour of Rosewood's 24-hour sawmill. Spencer chased Emily to tell her to stop chasing Toby, but wound up on a teddy bear picnic with Mona Vanderwaal and every bear that ever there was gathered there for certain because: Boo Radley was dead on the forest floor. She stumbled around in the woods for the whole night, muttering...

Previously on Pretty Little Liars, Alison Dilaurentis had a funeral. And another funeral. And another and another and another, and every funeral drew a smaller crowd than the one before it because the longer she was dead, the more apparent it became that the girl was an emotional terrorist. During one of the funerals, the Liars were each invited to add a keepsake to Ali's casket, just little trinkets to honor the most memorable moments of trauma she inflicted upon them. Earrings from the time Ali coerced Aria into destroying her philandering father's office. Ouija Board planchette from when Ali's ghost made herself known to Hanna for the first time. One-by-one the casket gifts appeared above ground, and also a necklace made of Ali's actual human teeth. Ali's casket was like Mary Poppins' carpet bag, is what I am saying.
