Classic rock wouldn’t be the same without classical music. The Beatles’ “Let It Be” is based on one of the most famous classical pieces ever. So are a lot of other pop songs!
The Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’ is 1 of several pop songs inspired by Pachelbel’s Canon
In his 2020 book A Sound Mind: How I Fell in Love With Classical Music (and Decided to Rewrite Its Entire History), music writer Paul Morley discussed the impact of Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D, a piece of classical music also known as Pachelbel’s Canon. “Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D major [is] the original source of ambient music,” he said. “It was written possibly for his mentee Johann Bach’s (J. S. Bach’s father) wedding in 1694, more likely for just the kind of ordinary domestic function Telemann’s Table Music was designed for, and after being rediscovered in the 1920s,...

Paul McCartney rerecorded The Beatles’ “Let It Be” as a star-studded charity single in 1987. He collaborated with a famous producer on the cover. The producer said the former Beatle was never satisfied with his work on the song.
The Beatles‘ “Let It Be” is one of Paul McCartney’s most famous songs. He rerecorded it with the help of many major artists to help the victims of a ferry disaster. Subsequently, the cover inspired a parody by a famous band.
Kate Bush and Boy George helped Paul McCartney rerecord The Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’
According to Yahoo! News, the Herald of Free Enterprise was a ferry that was supposed to travel from Zeebrugge, Belgium, to Dover, England, on March 6, 1987. No one closed the ferry’s bow doors, which caused water to flood the ship. Within 90 seconds, the Herald of Free Enterprise capsized.
Sadly, 193 people died on the Herald of Free Enterprise.

The Last Man on Earth‘s Kristen Schaal has already proven she’s a champion at awkward eating.
Last week, while trying to make Phil jealous of her bountiful tomato garden, Carol chowed down on a “tomahto” like it was no one’s business. In this Sunday’s episode (9:30/8:30c on Fox), she attempts to stomach the taste of her very own meatball substitute: raisin balls!

After 13 series, there have now been more than enough I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! winners to fill up their own all-star series.
They all had to endure creepy crawlies, tough Bushtucker Trials and mockery by Ant & Dec, but they all won the hearts of the nation for a couple of weeks.
Some of them may have fallen from grace since, while some have soared up the UK fame ranks. But who were the best champions from their respective series? Here's our just-for-fun, don't-take-it-too-seriously Top 13.
13. Carol Thatcher - Series 5 (2005)
Potentially the most surprising winner of the lot, no-one could have guessed that Margaret Thatcher's daughter would have been voted the nation's favourite.
Viewers were won over by how involved she was in the tasks, her no-nonsense attitude, and the fact that she was only up against Sid Owen and Cannon & Ball.

With Daft Punk’s Nile Rodgers and Pharrell collaboration, Get Lucky, on course to top music charts all over the world, I’ve been further exploring Rodger’s musical back-catalogue. To my shock, the Chic performer and producer’s musical output has become somewhat less prominent in recent years, despite producing some of the industry’s most iconic tracks and working with some of its biggest names.
This has got me thinking about several big name producers, who have sadly faded from prominence and are long overdue for a comeback. This is not really a critique on the current state of the music industry, as of course young producers keep things fresh and exciting – this is simply more of an exercise in nostalgia, looking at some of the iconic sounds and production styles that it would be wonderful to have back.

There’s a lot of reflection going on in this week’s Nashville, which finds Rayna contemplating her children’s professional futures, Deacon contemplating settling down, Scarlett contemplating making the dumbest move of her life and Juliette contemplating seeing her mom’s sober counselor naked. Put on your Stetson and shine your spurs, because it’s time to review the major events of “I Saw the Light.”

Pete Waterman has described Girls Aloud's longevity as "brilliant". The producer - who served as a judge on Popstars: The Rivals when the group was formed - praised them for the achievement. "It's amazing how they've been worked. Brilliant," Waterman told the Daily Star. "From a show that everyone tells me was a piece of garbage, we had number one, number one and number three in the Christmas charts and one of the acts is still around ten years later." He went on to joke: "But we didn't know what we were doing." Photo gallery - Girls Aloud's (more)...

Next week, Girls Aloud celebrate their tenth anniversary with their aptly-titled greatest hits album Ten. The majority of their (soon to be) 21 top ten singles (and the other one that didn't quite make it) are great pop moments in themselves, but the brilliance of Girls Aloud extends far beyond their music. We've revisited ten of the best moments in the group's decade together, starting from the very beginning, below: 1. The forming of the band on Popstars: The Rivals
Where it all began. Who'd have thought Pete Waterman, Geri Halliwell and Louis Walsh could be responsible for such a band? Of course, it was up to the public to knock one girl out to make the final group, but few would have suggested it would be between Sarah or Javine. But the public in those days were very wise indeed, and put Sarah through to the band, leaving (more)...

Pete Waterman has spoken of his disappointment over the cancelled Pwl Hit Factory Music live event. The one-off gig in London's Hyde Park was scheduled to be staged this evening (July 11), but had to be axed due to safety concerns. Waterman - who was behind the planned event - said that it would have been "impossible" to put on because of the recent poor weather in the area. "It's devastating. Not just for the acts who were excited, but the people from all over the world who wanted to come, from New Zealand and America," he told BBC Breakfast. "You feel for them, the fans, the 40,000 people, it's all gone. It's just too wet, it's impossible. "When we planned this, we said July. Pete Waterman says Geri Halliwell ended his reality TV judging career. The songwriter worked on 'Popstars: The Rivals' alongside Geri and 'X Factor' judge Louis Walsh but Pete cites Geri's strange behaviour, including bringing a dog on set, as one of the main reasons he decided to bow out of judging reality TV shows. He explained: ''When she came in and put the dog on her lap, I thought 'What am I actually doing here?' ''In our contract with ITV there were all these rules about what you could and couldn't do on screen. One of them, I always thought, was that...

Pete Waterman has admitted that he initially was not keen on signing Jason Donovan to his record label. The former Pop Idol judge confessed that before he met the Australian star he was adamant he would not work with him. "We were making a lot of money and records with Kylie, love Kylie and always have done from the first moment we met, I loved what we did," Waterman told Smooth Radio. "The thought of signing Jason Donovan horrified me, to the point where it could not be mentioned within Pwl. This was a 'no no' - everyone don't mention to Pete Jason Donovan, he'll rip your head off. It was an absolute 'no no'. We previously reported that rapper Dmx has had his prison sentence extended by 30 days due to multiple infractions behind bars, and sadly this comes as no surprise considering his many brushes with the law.
Dmx first stormed the rap music scene with his loud bark and “don’t f**k with me” attitude in the late 1990s. In a feat that had only been done by Tupac, Dmx released two number one albums in the same year, with his debut in May of ’98 and follow-up that December (which stayed at No. 1 for 3 weeks). Pete Waterman has commented that if Cheryl Cole ever wants to stand a chance of achieving happiness, she needs to give up on her TV and music career and concentrate on her personal life.
The 64 year old record producer – who was the original Mr Nasty when he first discovered Cole on Popstars: The Rivals – told The Sunday Mirror that he thinks Cheryl needs to get over her recent X Factor sacking and settle down with her ex-husband Ashley.
He explained:
“I think Cheryl should now and go and have babies with Ashley. They’ve got back together so they obviously like each other.”
Pete has known Simon Cowell since 1984 and shed some light on his recent decision to cut Cheryl from his new American reality TV show. He added:
“What happened with her in America is show business. Simon’s a business man – he will always come first and everyone else is a puppet.

Vanessa Hudgens probably had a pretty great time partying this weekend—but not because she was partying too hard! The Sucker Punch star, who hasn't always had the best luck when it comes to photos being posted online, was snapped relaxing on the grass at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, where at one point she reached into a little bag and then leaned forward to lick a white substance off her fingers. Busted? Hardly. Hudgens' rep assures E! News that the gooey (the weather was indeed hot in the desert over the weekend) substance was just white chocolate. Josh Dubovie belts his way into last place at the Eurovision Song Contest
It didn't have the controversy, or adorable Hobbit winner of last year, but the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo, Norway still brought lots of pomp, circumstance, and spectacle.
The winner was Germany's Lena, who inexplicably (Imho) won for the cute but forgettable "Satellite." She's charming, but there's really nothing at all special or memorable about the song. Frankly, she's no Nena. What do you think? Did she deserve the win?
In second place was Turkey's maNga (apparent victims of a Shift/Ca typing error), with "We Could Be The Same." It's a better song than "Satellite" and has a great message, but the video has a creepy fetish vibe.
In third place was Romania's Paula Seling & Ovi, who performed the duet "Playing With Fire." Now this is why I love Eurovision. This song was sexy, campy, and...

Pete Waterman has reportedly hit out at critics who slammed this year's UK Eurovision song and vowed that he will not be behind next year's entry. Bookies have placed record odds against the song's chances of winning, though Dubovie has said that, regardless of criticism, he will perform with a smile on his face. Ok, so we hoped for huge things from Miss Fitz tonight. Although they tactfully neglected to mention it, these girls have previously reached X Factor bootcamp and we remembered then as being quite talented.
Well either they have all lost their voices, or they are victims of secret body snatchers because tonight they were 100% awful.
The three piece girl group tried to sing Kylie Minogue’s ‘Better The Devil You Know’ on tonight’s national competition to decide who gets to enter the Eurovision competition later this year. Yes, we know, it’s a stupid concept and a ridiculous excuse for a TV show. Made worse by the fact that None of the contestants can sing.
Back to Miss Fitz, our live blogger Gerard described the performance well when he said:
Blonde one looks like mutton. The hot brunette one clearly can’t sing – falls out of tune badly at one point.

Proving that the BBC haven’t asked any actually talented people to try out for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, they plonked Karen Harding on the stage and asked her to sing What Do I Have To Do by Kylie Minogue.
The 18 year old is a professional singer who began performing at an early age but who has no formal training besides the occasional singing lesson. Music producer Pete Waterman was hired to write this year’s British entry for the Eurovision song contest and is due to give the public their first listen of the track tonight. However, yesterday the former Pop Idol judge admitted that he still hasn’t finished writing the tune.
The song is due to be played during tonight’s BBC1’s Eurovision: Your Country Needs You at 8.30pm.
The Sun quote Pete as saying: “I’m still 24 hours away from hearing the completed track.”
Here’s hoping he gets it done in time. If not, the BBC may decide to bring back Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.
