Prashant Chadha’s Aazaan is rumoured to be one of the most expensive movies til date to be churned out by Indian cinema. Tackling the never-touched-on subject of Bioterrorism, the movie’s hype was rife much before its release. With no well-known name as protagonist and a promise of a gripping tale to leave audiences thinking that this was the new era of Bollywood, Aazaan’s world premiere in Dubai only added to the excitement and hope that surrounded the film.
The story revolves around an officer from India’s Raw (an intelligence agency), Aazaan Khan (played by newcomer Sachiin Joshi), who – in order to build his reputation – is sent to various countries that have experienced terrorist attacks. He is portrayed as an expert somewhat to seek out the culprits and kill them. He sets out to clear his brothers name, who Raw believes was involved in the London Underground bombings.

Yesterday saw the release of Azaan, the Indian International espionage thriller by new comer Sachin Joshi and ad filmmaker Prashant Chadha (who previously directed Aap Ka Suroor with Himesh Reshamiya, but we shouldn’t hold that against him).
Although surrounded by controvery within its home country – India – due to the sensitive nature of a movie about terrorism whilst having one of the largest Muslim populations in the world. Also mixing religious iconography, lyrics and playboy bikini models might not have been the best way to do things? But I’ve been aching for some new faces in Bollywood and usual song and dance, although we all love the songs and dance don’t we?

As we see rescue operations post a bombing attack being carried out in slow motion, the soundtrack goes almost inert in a show of frozen protest…And you know there and then that Aazaan has something out-of-the-ordinary to offer to the action genre.
Tackling global terrorism and Islamic isolation as seen through the eyes of a tormented Muslim secret agent, Aazaan heads towards its flaming phases of flash-points with the least amount of fuss or ostentation. The narrative knows all the sign posts.
The screenplay by Shubra Swaroop is gritty and gripping, ensuring that every episode stays a step ahead of the audiences’ expectations. The characters speak a language that belongs to the world of terror terrorism and anti-terrorism. And yet the spoken words in various languages including Israeli and French do...

Undeterred by all the protests that have threatened to spoil the party en route to its release, Aazaan is going ahead with its Friday release. Though till late Wednesday night there was a question mark over whether the film would indeed make it for 14th October release courtesy quite a few detractors asking for a change in film's title, the makers have announced that they would stick to their stand and arrive as plans. Says an official spokesperson of the production house Jmj Entertainment, "We are of firm belief that it would be totally detrimental to the basic spirit of the film if we even give these so-called protests any more importance. Some political parties out there wanted us to change the film's title from Aazaan to something else since they felt that we were propagating terror through the film and also showing a minority community in poor light. Click above for more movie stills Seems like there is a rocky journey ahead for Aazaan en route to its next Friday release. Even though the film has seen it's promotion intensify during last couple of months and has been in news for over a year right through it's making, there are some political parties that have woken up to the supposedly 'volatile content' that the film carries. While there are questions being raised about the intent and content of the film, the first thing that has caught the attention of Samajwadi Party and Mns (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) is the very title of the film. "Azaan is a holy word but these parties have a doubt whether the film actually propagates peace or is instead a violent saga of global terrorism", says a source, "Since the film has a Muslim protagonist being the central character, the makers of Aazaan have...

'So near yet so far' - This could well be the deep sigh a viewer may end up taking after watching Playboy girl Candice Boucher on big screen for the first time. Though she has proven to be quite an eye candy if her dare-bare pictures flooding internet are any indication, when it comes to facing camera for Bollywood flick Aazaan, she seems to have mellowed down quite a bit. "Don't expect her to go nude in the film", comes a declaration from a prominent crew member who has sat through the editing process of Aazaan, "There are no false expectations being set for the audience lest they start wondering whether they have been cheated. Yes, it is understandable that when there is a centrespread model in a film, you do expect some nudity here and there. However, Aazaan is not an erotica, it is a spy thriller and hence...

That Shah Rukh Khan is an inspiration to many out there is something which is a known fact. Known for his romantic image, he is now looking at action in a big way, case in point being Ra.One and Don 2. No wonder, even his action sequences are now turning out to be a source of inspiration for his friends and followers. This is evidenced from the fact that last year when he jumped from a skyscraper in Berlin, Shah Rukh was being closely observed by his friend Sachiin Joshi. The entrepreneur turned actor has now incorporated a similar scene in his upcoming film Aazaan as well which is again a spy thriller. "Sachiin and Shah Rukh have been friends for quite some time and frequently exchange notes around their films", says a source, "When Shah Rukh jumped off a 300 ft tall building in October last year, the moment was etched in Sachiin's memory.
