When Ringo Starr’s son, Zak Starkey, began to work professionally as a drummer, people understandably made comparisons between him and his father. Though Starr is one of the most successful drummers in the world, Starkey resented the comparison. He wanted to make it as a musician in his own right, and he also didn’t think Starr was that good of a drummer. He didn’t even want to be mentioned in the same sentence as his father.

Ringo Starr’s son, Zak Starkey, followed in his footsteps, becoming a drummer and playing for bands like Oasis and The Who. While it seems that drumming runs in the family, Starkey said he didn’t learn much from his father. Starr offered to help him play the drums, but he gave his son one lesson. He said he wanted to play the instrument because of a different drummer.

Ringo Starr’s eldest son, Zak Starkey, followed in his father’s footsteps and became a drummer. Starkey said he admires his father’s talent and is happy to be his son. He didn’t always feel this way, though. Starkey said that as a child and teenager, he resented the fact that Starr was his father. He explained that Starr was rarely around, and he didn’t seem all that interested in his music career.

Starr has three children from his marriage with his first wife, Maureen Starkey. The couple married in 1965 after realizing Starkey was pregnant. Zak Starkey was the couple’s first child, followed by another son Jason, in 1967, and a daughter, Lee, in 1970. Starr said he never felt that the chaos of his life with The Beatles meant he couldn’t have children.

Ringo Starr’s son grew up to be a drummer like him. According to him, though, the inspiration for his career path didn’t necessarily come from his famous father. Zak Starkey, Starr’s eldest son, said he spent more time with Keith Moon than his father. This led to a level of resentment that he held toward his father.

One of Starr’s closest friends was another astronomically named drummer. Moon was a member of The Who, and though he once asked to join The Beatles, the two musicians became incredibly close.
“[Moon’s] interaction with Ringo was incredibly intimate,” Starr’s longtime girlfriend, Nancy Andrews, said, per the book Ringo: With a Little Help by Michael Seth Starr. “I’ve noticed over the years that drummers have a shorthand language,...

This review contains Ms. Marvel spoilers
Ms. Marvel Episode 1
MCU Phase 4 has been a time of experimentation for Marvel Studios. After a slam dunk Phase 3 climax with Avengers: Endgame, there was a shift as Marvel seemed to understand that in a lot of ways they had to start from scratch by building new corners inside their established universe. But the foundations of Phase 4 were built on familiarity. We got spinoffs for Wanda Maximoff, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, Loki, and a Black Widow prequel. Soon enough, it was time to start introducing new lead characters. Shang-Chi was warmly received, the Eternals not so much. Then, the Disney+ arm of the MCU round-housed us with the ambitious-but-divisive Moon Knight earlier this year, and even some hardcore Marvel fans started wondering if Phase 4 was getting a bit messy.
The second Disney+ series to dish up a new MCU superhero this year is Ms.

Someone’s clearly flavour of the month right now. Moon Knight was always one of those second-tier characters with a small but loyal fan base. He’s proved a remarkably easy to use blank canvas of a character, going from Marvel’s Batman (still love those half-moon shurikens he throws) to the earthly servant of an Egyptian god. He’s been lucid, split personality, psychotic. A mercenary, a cab driver, a playboy. See what I mean? Writers love this guy, as he can fit whatever you want to do with him. This latest issue in the black, white and red series is a natural fit for him, allowing three separate creative teams their chance to give their own take on him, three good ones at that. Throw in a Bill Sienkiewicz...

With Peter Jackson’s re-cut of The Beatles: Get Back coming at the end of November, we are reminded the Beatles were cinematic stars as well as musical artists. Beyond the group’s films, John Lennon played Private Gripweed in Richard Lester’s How I Won the War, and Ringo Starr acted in quite a few films. His choices were far more in keeping with the underground and independent air of the time. Starr starred with Peter Sellars in the anti-capitalist satire The Magic Christian, as the villain in the Spaghetti Western Blindman, and the voyeuristic Mexican gardener Emmanuel in the sex farce Candy. But his most counterculture and independent nod was as Frank Zappa in the film 200 Motels (1971). A special edition of its soundtrack, Frank Zappa 200 Motels 50th Anniversary Edition, is coming out on Dec. 17.

A week after The View co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro abruptly exited the stage on live TV just as Vice President Kamala Harris was waiting to come on, the incident was played out in the season premiere of NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
The skit involved a fictional daytime panel talk show, The Talking, featuring four female hosts, played by Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant, Heidi Gardner and Ego Nwodim, sitting at a table in a setup mirroring The View stage at the start of the Sept. 24 episode.
After the four chatted about topics like crock pot lasagna and air fryer, a man in a white lab coat, played by host Owen Wilson, walked on stage and approached Didi (Gardner) to inform her of her Covid test results which he said needed to be done on live TV because “we either can’t tell anybody or we have to tell everybody,...

It was confirmed over the weekend at D23 that Moon Knight is finally coming to the McU, with the nocturnal hero getting his own TV show on Disney Plus in the near future (likely 2022). Fans have been calling for ol’ Moonie to get his big break in live-action for years and now, it’s finally happening. But what could he look like on screen?
That remains to be seen, but this awesome piece of fan art gives us a good idea of how Marvel Studios will realize his design. Raf Grassetti, Art Director at Sony Santa Monica, shared his own take on how Moon Knight could look in the McU on social media and the result is a stunning mix of a comic-accurate costume with an extra armored, hi-tech edge that’s in keeping with the aesthetic of the franchise.
Grassetti captioned his image with one of Marc Spector’s more recognizable quotes as well,...
