Former ‘Riverdale’ and ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ actor Ryan Grantham has been sentenced to life behind bars without the possibility of parole for 14 years for killing his mother.
The by-the-book second-degree murder punishment was handed down by British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Kathleen Ker on September 21 in Vancouver, reports ‘Deadline’.
With the sentence already a forgone conclusion over the laws of the Canadian province, the only real wild card was how long the guilty pleading Grantham would have to wait before the currently 24-year-old could apply for parole.
The Leo Awards nominated Grantham turned himself to police soon after shooting his 64-year-old mother Barbara Waite in the back of the head on March 31, 2020, in the family’s Squamish home, just north of Vancouver.
A second-degree murder charge in B.C. comes with no parole eligibility of between 10 and 25 years.

The fourth season of Riverdale has only just begun, and already it's been an emotional ride. In addition to a heart-wrenching tribute to late star Luke Perry, who played Fred Andrews, The CW series will soon see the arrival of important new characters and maybe even the return of Varchie. There's a lot going on! But if you're not one of the many who watch the series live each week, you're probably already asking one big question: when will Riverdale's fourth season be available on Netflix? Well, we have an idea.
Thanks to The CW's current agreement with Netflix, shows on The CW head to the streaming service just eight days after the air date of their season finale. For instance, after Riverdale's season two finale on May 16, the entire season was streaming by May 24. Similarly, following the airing of season three's finale on May 15, the full season was...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of tonight’s Riverdale Season 3 finale.
Taking it over-the-top is the bottom line for the fizzy CW series Riverdale and by that measure the Season 3 finale that aired Wednesday was top-notch for a series that is more of a pop-television tone poem than a traditional (or rational) storytelling endeavor. The season’s finish-line episode checked off all the boxes for a show, too, that yearns to be sleek, sugary, surreal, sexy, soapy, silly, and swooning – and to always look good doing it,
The young hearts of Riverdale were in Mystery Machine-mode in the “Chapter Fifty-Seven: Survive the Night” as the climatic reveal of this season’s mystery antagonist, the Gargoyle King, finally played out. There was plenty of other business dealt with, as well, as the never-dull episode sprinted through twists and...

Riverdale, like the rest of the world, suffered a major loss earlier this year with the death of Luke Perry. The actor, who had played Fred Andrews for three seasons, died after a stroke on March 4 with three episodes of the season left to film. The show addressed Fred's absence by saying he was "away" on business, with Molly Ringwald returning as Archie's mother Mary to take care of their son for the last few episodes of the season, but Fred has not yet been written out of the series. It might feel clear why to those who kept up with the end of the season and Wednesday's season finale, as there simply wasn't the time that would be needed to deal with the loss of Archie's...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday’s Season 3 finale of “Riverdale”)
“Riverdale” ended its third season tonight with a grand finale that not only revealed the (confusing) identity of the Gargoyle King, but tied together many plot points going back to the series premiere of The CW’s dark take on the Archie Comics.
Because the episode, titled “Survive the Night,” got a little complicated, here and there — and because the town of Riverdale is more than a little complicated, here and there — TheWrap broke things down with showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who told us the meaning behind the closing moments’ bloody flash-forward, his ideas for “Riverdale” crossovers with its upcoming spinoff series “Katy Keene,” and what it was like finishing off the season without the late Luke Perry and how he plans to write off Perry’s character Fred Andrews on Season 4.

Riverdale‘s Season 3 finale dished out plenty of shocking moments, but it didn’t answer one of the biggest questions on fans’ minds: What happened to Luke Perry‘s character Fred Andrews?
Perry passed away suddenly during the filming of Season 3, and though Archie’s dad Fred made his final appearance on the show a few weeks back, he merely left town on unexplained business after that, and the show never addressed his absence in Wednesday’s Season 3 finale. (Molly Ringwald did return as Archie’s out-of-town mom Mary to offer the redheaded teen some parental guidance, though.) So is...

We break down the twists of the Riverdale Season 3 finale...and speculate on what happens next.
This Riverdale article contains spoilers.
To say that the season finale of Riverdale was eventful is an exercise in understatement. Not only did we get a resolution of the Black Hood and Gargoyle King storylines, Penelope Blossom established herself as the show's primary antagonist, Alice's true intentions with The Farm were revealed, Hiram began a quest of vengeance against his family, Betty lost a father and gained a step-brother, Cheryl was reunited with Jason and, most importantly, a Lost-esque flash-forward illustrated how brutal the future will be for Archie, Veronica, Betty, and Jughead.
It was all a bit epic, and a more-than-satisfying conclusion to Riverdale's uneven third season. But with so much happening in the episode, it's understandable if you missed something. Drawing from evidence that the show has already given us,...

Did Fred Andrews deliver on his threats against Hiram Lodge? This could be the case based on the promo for Riverdale Season 3 Episode 10.
The reigning kingpin of Riverdale has collapsed to the ground with a noticeable bullet wound to his chest.
Karma finally got her revenge! But even if it wasn't Fred who did it, there are a lot of people in town who would Love to get their vengeance against Hiram.
Though, this is Riverdale after all; the attack could be a red herring. All we have to go on is the blood, the gunshot noise, and Fred's promise to kill his son's tormentor.
Do you think the former mayoral candidate made the shot?
The Andrews and Lodges aren't the only ones dealing with parental issues. It looks like Betty will be faced with double the Cooper drama!
Firstly, we see a quick clip of Betty walking through a dark and barely lit hallway.

In a dark and twisted show like Riverdale, it’s safe to say you never quite know what the writers will throw at you next. With storylines of serial killer fathers, drug wars and cult derived board games, things are never simple.

At the end of tonight's exhilarating episode, Jughead grimly states that "Riverdale would no longer be the town with pep, from now on it would be the town that dreaded sundown." It's a completely melodramatic moment, one that beautifully illustrates how, early in its second season, the series is unafraid to double down on its inherent ridiculousness. It would be far easier for Riverdale to play its world of pixie stick-drug addicts, anachronistic gangs, and nonsensical musical performances with a nod and a wink. It sounds like some very dangerous and more intense stuff will be taking place in this one as Archie's new crazy plan to go after the killer takes a nasty turn! Betty and Jughead start to experience problems in their relationship! A big showdown is going to happen and more! The press release also revealed that episode 4 is entitled, "Chapter Seventeen: The Town That Dreaded Sundown." CW started off their main description putting the words: "Terror In Riverdale" in all capital letters. I don't know about you guys, but that definitely tells us that things are about to get real intense. No doubt about that. Next, they described...

(Spoilers ahead for the October 18 episode of “Riverdale,” “Nighthawks”) So at the end of this week’s “Riverdale,” the man with the hood showed up again to do some more murder. That’s not surprising on any level, obviously, since that guy is at the center of the plot of the show in season 2. First he shot Fred Andrews in the season 1 finale, then he returned in the season 2 premiere to kill Ms. Grundy with a cello bow. So while not surprising that this guy is at it again, the method is a bit surprising, because it’s a pretty.

The title of Riverdale's season 2 premiere, "A Kiss Before Dying," wasn't just an example of the show being poetic, creative and referring to famous cinema and literature. It was literal. Fred Andrews didn't die after a kiss but someone did. Moments after Ms. Grundy kissed her newest underage beau goodbye, she was brutally murdered in her own home. Another season of Riverdale is underway and with it there's already another mysterious murderer on the loose.

Originally, Archie Andrews and his pals at Riverdale High reflected the codification of teenage life, as they had more leisure time and disposable income. Once it hit big, the comic series and its infinite number of spinoffs, became stuck in amber, barely trying to keep up with changing trends (other than fashion) or concerns for teens. By the 2000s, the entire company was on the ropes, increasingly irrelevant in a rapidly changing world.

Fred took the bullet, and while his fate hangs in the balance, it looks like it may be Archie and his friends who are truly taking a dark turn.
The CW
“People will look back at this as the exact moment that last bit of Riverdale’s innocence finally died,” Jughead (Cole Sprouse) warns ominously in voiceover, as Archie drags his bloodied-but-alive father into the hospital.

Riverdale season 1 opened with a brand-new scandal for the small town, a murder. Throughout the course of season 1 it became obvious that Archie and the gang weren't the first group of teenagers to get into some soapy shenanigans. After countless hints and references to the past, a picture emerged that Fred Andrews was nearly as prolific in his teenage years as his son. The history between the parents of Riverdale has been a big factor in the story but it has only been talked about, not really seen. It might ruin some surprises down the line but Riverdale should consider adding in flashbacks for season 2.

Warning: Spoiler alert! Do not proceed if you haven’t watched Thursday’s season one finale of Riverdale!
Riverdale ended its first season with a bang on Thursday! Just as the town was unraveling the truth behind Jason Blossom’s death, another shocking blow came in the finale’s last moments, when Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) was gunned down during a robbery at Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe as son Archie (Kj Apa) helplessly tried to intervene.
Et hopped on the phone with Riverdale executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who stayed mum on Fred’s fate, but dished on how the shocking events of the finale -- which included intense family drama for Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse), as well -- will affect each character as Riverdale looks ahead to its second season.

Who killed Jason Blossom, and 5 other mysteries Riverdale has to solve as the season 1 finale approaches. Speculation and spoilers ahead...
Spoiler warning: this article includes comments from Riverdale’s cast and creator about episodes twelve and thirteen.
Thinking cynically, Riverdale was never going to fail. It’s the ultimate teen drama, that golden mix of arch self-reflexivity and soapy melodrama, with a moody, neon aesthetic that Tumblr has predictably lapped up in gif form. It boasts the hottest young cast this side of Gossip Girl, and for older viewers there’s a lure in having 90s stars like Skeet Ulrich, Mädchen Amick and Luke Perry fill out the parental roles. And this is all without mentioning that the show is executive-produced by godfather of The CW, Greg Berlanti.
It certainly helps, too, that Riverdale is one of the most fun teen dramas to come out of the last few years.

When the murder of Jason Blossom is solved, what comes next for Riverdale? According to Luke Perry, who plays Fred Andrews on the show, perhaps another murder will shake the group. When asked about how the show will transpire in season two, after Jason's killer has been revealed, Luke wasn't quick to dismiss the idea that more tragedy could strike. "That's a murder, for instance. Other things could happen. Riverdale is that kind of town. Bodies wash up," said Luke at the Paley Center on Thursday. He could be kidding, of course. The 90210 heartthrob stole the show at the panel after a screening of episode 11, joking that he "enjoyed his time on the show." (Unrelated but still amusing, check out Luke's epic clapback for the cast when a fan asked for the advice he'd give them when handling massive media fame.) (Moment at 52:03.) Does Luke Perry give the younger...

Over the next two Riverdale episodes, the red heads will rule! In "Chapter Nine: La Grande Illusion," Cheryl Blossom makes the moves on Archie during her family's annual maple syrup tapping event. That will certainly be overshadowed by the arrival of Mary Andrews' played by Molly Ringwald in next week's "Chapter Ten: The Lost Weekend."
BuddyTV caught up with Kj Apa (Archie Andrews), Luke Perry (Fred Andrews) and Executive Producers Sarah Schechter, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and Jon Goldwater during Wondercon to find out about Archie's new relationship with Cheryl and Mary's appearance in town.

When I saw this picture I thought two things. First one was ” Good for you Molly Ringwald. You could have easily laid down and just accepted you wouldn’t be on television or movies anymore. But you didn’t. You’re still getting roles and making a living, And you can poke fun of you 80s self. Seriously, good for you.” The second thought was “What the hell Luke Perry? You’re 50 now? You were Dylan McKay for Christ’s sake. What are you doing playing Fred Andrews on Riverdale?” P.S. Ringwald is almost 50 as well. As I read what I just

These parents can't set aside their drama for one night. They ruin everything. Why can't they just get along?
Polly's baby shower on Riverdale Season 1 Episode 8 was supposed to be her night to celebrate. After what happened to Jason, I had high hopes. She deserved a better night.
I loved that "Chapter Eight: The Outsiders" focused on the theme of family drama. We got a taste of it on Riverdale Season 1 Episode 5, but this came out in full force. And it wasn't simply a Cooper vs. Blossom battle; the Lodges, Joneses and Andrews joined in the fighting too.
Alice Cooper and Penelope Blossom hate each other!
I know it. You know it. We're feasting on the perfection that is their heated rivalry. (Does that make me sound evil?)
Cheryl: Oh Polly, come stay with us at Thorn Hill!
Penelope: Cheryl's invitation is...genuine. Thorn Hill's gates will always be open to you.

Riverdale has another redhead in town — and she’s not a Blossom.
As the teen whodunit delves deeper into the murder of ginger golden boy Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines), the newest blazing tresses of note belong to ’80s icon Molly Ringwald, who will play Mary Andrews, mom to Archie Andrews (Kj Apa) and soon-to-be ex-wife of Fred Andrews (played by none other than ’90s heartthrob Luke Perry).

Poor Josie! It's no wonder she's so set on being a star. Her parents' expectations are exhausting.
We finally got a Josie-centric story on Riverdale Season 1 Episode 6. It took weeks for this to happen. I couldn't be happier.
Has anyone else officially joined #TeamJosie? I've been here a while. Welcome to the group. (On Thursdays we wear cat ears.)
In her few appearances so far, Josie has always come across as the ambitious yet snobby band leader. She would show up to perform a song or demand attention to rule the group. I never understood why this was her only personality trait shown.
That is...until we finally met and learned more about her parents.
Her father is one of the worst. I. Can't. Even...

Of all the comic book adaptations that have flooded film and television in recent years, perhaps none are as ambitious as Riverdale. The CW’s attempt to transport the family-friendly cast of Archie Comics into a dark and soapy teen drama could have been disastrous, but instead, it looks to be a very promising offering, calling to mind some of the network’s greatest hits, like Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill.
Here’s six reasons why you should set your DVR for Riverdale, and prepare yourselves for a new fave.
1. A Cast of New, New Hotties (like The O.C. blessed us with)
One of the greatest things a teen drama can do is introduce viewers to a whole new cast of nearly-unknown hotties to swoon over. This is why certain segments of the population still dream of Adam Brody as the ultimate boyfriend or give Jared Leto a pass for almost anything.

A look-back at the previous attempts to bring Archie to TV before they got it right with Riverdale...
When Riverdale premieres on the CW on January 26th, it will mark a milestone for Archie Comics - the first time in the company's 75-year history that its characters will truly shine on television. A mix of gleefully ridiculous kitsch with standout performances and some truly smart writing, the series is poised to be 2017's breakout TV hit.
See related Shane Black: a career retrospective Zack Snyder interview: Batman V Superman
That said, it took a while for Archie to get to this point. There have been many attempts to bring Archie and his friends to TV before, but these all suffered for either being shoddily animated (the various 1960s cartoons), misguided (1990's Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again), or just plain, um, weird (the X-Files cash-in Archie's Weird Mysteries...

As you know, Anya is a huge fan of the Archie comics (those were her comics gateway drug) and she also fangirls hard over CW teen dramas, so Riverdale, premiering on The CW January 26, 2017, is kind of a big deal.
It’s a dark, film noir, take on the characters from Archie comics written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Greg Berlanti. In the pilot, Cheryl Blossom’s twin brother is murdered and they need to find out why. Jughead narrates the show and there’s of course a love triangle between Betty/Veronica/Archie. But there’s also a music component with Archie starting a band that seems to clash with Josie and the Pussycats.
At Comic-Con, Anya was able to sit down with the cast to ask about the show and here’s the interview. There are some really great bits in there. Like K.J. Aga (Archie) has a...

The first promo for The CW's Riverdale is here, giving us a pretty good idea of what to expect from this "subversive" take on the classic Archie Comics. Early reactions to the pilot screening at Sdcc were mostly positive, but it's difficult to imagine any purist getting on board with this. Then again, maybe you feel the material could have used a bit of an update? Check out the teaser below and let us know what you make of it. Riverdale is set to premiere on January 26, and stars Kj Apa as Archie, Andrews, Camilia Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Daniel Yang as Dilton Doiley, Cody Kearsley as Moose Mason, Ashleigh Murray as Josie, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Marisol Nichols as Mrs. Lodge, Mädchen Amick as Alice Cooper, and Luke Perry as Fred Andrews.
