"Yellowjackets" spoilers follow.
We first got hints that Misty was a fan of musicals in season 1 of "Yellowjackets" when she listened to the "Overture" and "The Music of the Night" from "The Phantom of the Opera." She also teased Nat by listening to "Mr. Mistoffelees" from "Cats" while driving. In season 2, we discover that Misty's relationship with musicals has a lot to do with Crystal, a theatre nerd who also survived the plane crash.
Walter, the other half of her detective duo, also enjoys musicals. During their road trip to find the cult, Walter gives Misty a set of cassette tapes that include "Singin' in the Rain," "The Wizard of Oz," "Les Miserables," "Rent," and more. Misty dismisses "Starlight Express" before she turns on "Rainbow Tour" from "Evita": "Oh, let's tell the story of Cinderella, except every character's a train? Ugh." In flashbacks, we see that she and Crystal...

The Phantom of the Opera, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical that closed its Broadway run on Sunday after 35 years, went out on a very high note: Box office receipts for the show’s final week hit a best-ever $3,739,934.
Playing, of course, to standing room only audiences at longtime venue the Majestic Theatre, Phantom commanded a hefty $287 average ticket price during its home stretch week (Sunday’s final performance was invitation-only and heavily comped).
Among the shows of a more recent vintage, Peter Pan Goes Wrong, the latest comedy from the Mischief theater company folks, took in $903,540, a startlingly strong figure for a new non-musical play. The combination of Mischief’s reputation (the troupe was behind the very popular The Play That Goes Wrong) and current guest star Neil Patrick Harris (he’s on board until April 30) proved irresistible to ticket-buyers, who paid an average $113.67 per ticket and filled 95% of seats at the Ethel Barrymore.

After 35 years, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera took its final curtain call on Sunday night at the Majestic Theatre in New York. This was show No. 13,981 of the longest-running show in Broadway history and was dedicated by Lloyd Webber to his son Nicholas who died last month after a battle with gastric cancer.
Amid a standing ovation, Webber said, “I hope you won’t mind if I dedicate this performance to my son, Nick.” Turning to original Phantom star, Sarah Brightman, the composer recalled, “When Nick was a little boy, he heard some of this music.”
Said Brightman, “Yes, he did. When Andrew was writing it, he was right there. So his soul is with us. Nick, we love you very much.”
Also on Sunday night, Brightman performed the musical’s most famous song, “The Music of the Night,” along with current cast, previous actors and crew members,...

Exclusive: The story of the murder of six Black girls in the Washington, D.C. area in the 1970s is to be turned into a podcast and scripted series.
Jay Ellis, who starred in Top Gun: Maverick and HBO’s Insecure, is behind both projects.
The podcast series, Freeway Phantom, will launch May 17. It comes from Ellis’ Black Bar Mitzvah, Tenderfoot TV and iHeartPodcasts and is hosted by public radio veteran Celeste Headlee.
It will tell the story of how Carol Spinks, Darlenia Johnson, Brenda Crockett, Nenomoshia Yates, Brenda Woodard and Diane Williams were murdered between 1971-1972 and discarded alongside D.C. highways. The killer taunted police with a chilling note claiming responsibility, and terrorized victims’ families with calls to their homes. Five decades later, their killer has never been brought to justice.
Freeway Phantom will share the stories of the six victims and explore new evidence that could crack the cold cases wide open.

The Phantom of the Opera, Broadway’s longest running show, will close in February following its 35th anniversary in January, producers have announced.
“We are sad to confirm that after 35 years on Broadway, Phantom will play its final performance at the Majestic Theatre on Saturday February 18th, 2023,” the show has announced on its website. “Tickets are currently on sale for performances through January 22nd, 2023, and we expect the final block of tickets to be placed on sale shortly.”
The news comes as the musical, known for its falling chandelier, its half-masked title character and its most famous song “The Music of the Night,” has become an icon of Broadway over the decades but has been as susceptible as other productions to the soft Covid market and weak tourist climate.
The musical has long played at the Shubert Organization’s Majestic Theatre.
