It’s been over two years since we last heard from Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews), but that ends on May 16, when Part 1 of Bridgerton Season 3 arrives on Netflix. The first four episodes will begin to unfold the love story of one Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), aka “Polin,” perfect for springtime.
Penelope and Colin will step into the spotlight after hovering in the background of the love stories of Colin’s older siblings Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) in the first two seasons. While Season 2 followed Anthony’s enemies to lovers romance with one Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), it also unspooled some threads with Bridgerton siblings Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Eloise (Claudia Jessie).
Here’s what happened in Bridgerton Season 2 for those who need a refresher:

Fans have been looking forward to Shondaland bringing more of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton books to life on-screen. But we’d argue that few scenes are as anticipated as the Bridgerton family playing a brutally competitive game of pall mall. Season 2, inspired by Quinn’s second novel, The Viscount Who Loved Me, follows the story of eldest Bridgerton brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) as he seeks a wife. That brings him into the orbit of the social season’s latest diamond, Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran), her protective older sister, Kate (Simone Ashley), and her mother, Lady Mary (Shelley Conn).
The fan-favorite scene arrives in the third episode of the season, as the Bridgerton family retreats to their country estate, Aubrey Hall, to host their annual ball. Before the full crowd of London socialites follows them out of the city, the younger Sharma women join the eldest Bridgerton siblings, including Anthony, Benedict...

There’s one beloved Bridgerton character with her hand in all the goings on of London high society, aka the ton, in Season 2. Sure, anonymous gossip columnist Lady Whistledown reports on the drama, but the ton’s unofficial leader, Lady Danbury, orchestrates it. As the new social season begins, and Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) declares it time to finally find a wife, Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) graciously agrees to sponsor the debutante debuts of two young ladies who immediately catch his eye: Miss Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) and Miss Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran), recently arrived from India with their mother, Lady Mary (Shelley Conn).
When Edwina is declared the diamond of the season — the brightest gem among the marriage-eligible ladies — it’s in part thanks to Lady Danbury's influence. Lady Danbury always knows what’s going on. Everybody likes her, though people might be a little afraid of her. She...

Everyone who’s watched Bridgerton Season 2 knows that Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) isn’t a people pleaser. In fact, it’s one of the things Ashley loves most about her character. Kate relocates with her sister, Edwina (Charithra Chandran), and their mother, Lady Mary (Shelley Conn), to Regency England, just in time to participate in the season’s marriage market. Kate and Mary have high hopes of finding Edwina a suitable husband and securing their family’s future, but Kate refuses to be pinned in by the rules that define the Regency-era social season.
She embarks on unchaperoned early morning horseback rides and is ambivalent about being labeled a spinster at 26. She’s sharp, demanding and capable, acting as a buffer between her sister — whom Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) has crowned the season’s diamond — and the suitors who might court Edwina for the wrong reasons. “When I had the...

It’s been less than 12 years since Dan Stevens raised a middle finger to the British aristocracy, quitting “Downton Abbey” as the show neared its Emmy-amassing zenith and setting sail for America with his family. As he admits, he had “absolutely no idea” what was going to happen to him.
“There was no roadmap,” the 41-year-old actor explains with frank honestly about a decision that, at the time, was considered by many to be sheer lunacy. “I left ‘Downton’ with a blank slate. It was just, ‘I think I want to do other things.’ But I didn’t know what that looked like.”
To have an idea of what that currently looks like, anyone need just head to their nearest cinema, where Stevens is going head-to-head against himself in two of the biggest studio releases of the season. In what has become something of a calling card for the Brit...

In 2022, Bridgerton, the racy regency drama, came back for a second season and was just as scandalous and engrossing as the first. The Shondaland production made waves in its first season for featuring people of color in a genre that has historically been filled by white actors.
In season two, the Sharma family—Kate (Simone Ashley), her younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandan), and their mother Mary (Shelley Conn)—added to this diversity in a big way.

"Downton Abbey" has endured across six seasons of television and two feature films as an ensemble-driven costume drama about the momentous lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and the downstairs staff that serve them. There are a lot of people to keep track of, which seems like a huge task to take on seeing as "Downton Abbey" is always adding new characters each season. But series creator Julian Fellowes ("The Gilded Age") has shown that he's more than up to the task.
I think it's pretty astounding that Fellowes is not only the head honcho who built "Downton Abbey" from the scraps of a potential "Gosford Park" spin-off, but he's also written every single episode, in addition to both feature films. Usually, a show passes the reins off to a writer's room, but this is a case where the series is largely the brainchild of one person. This is Fellowes' project through and through.

When you look at the sprawling ensemble that is "Downton Abbey," it can be easy to lose track of all of these characters, especially when you're having to alternate between the aristocratic Crawley family and their downstairs staff. But series creator/writer Julian Fellowes ("The Gilded Age") has done a great job of giving both clusters equal attention, as the show hops from one character's plotline to the next. Of course, the breadth of a television show with six seasons allows ample time to make sure no one gets lost in the shuffle.
As the PBS series made the transition to the big screen in 2019 with "Downton Abbey: The Motion Picture," and again this year with "Downton Abbey: A New Era," I wondered if Fellowes would be able to give as much attention to Maggie Smith's Dowager Countess, while also allowing characters like Rob James-Collier's Thomas Barrow enough...

Six seasons and a movie. That's what Downton Abbey fans were treated to when the period drama debuted on Jan. 9, 2011 in the U.S. on PBS. Yes, it's really been over 11 years since we were first introduced to the Crawley family and their servants in their stunning home in the English countryside. Then again, who can forget when Theo James' character died while deflowering Michelle Dockery's Lady Mary during its freshman run? Created by Julian Fellowes, the series would go on to become a pop culture phenomenon, turning Dockery, Dan Stevens and more of the cast into major stars and introducing one of TV's most beloved characters in Maggie Smith's Dowager Countess,...

Peacock announced Downton Abbey: A New Era will make its streaming debut on June 24.
The streamer also revealed the launch of a new 24/7 Downton Abbey channel for fans to catch up ahead of the second film’s release. All 6 seasons of the hit series, the first movie, and the one-hour special The Manners of Downton Abbey are currently available on Peacock.
A New Era follows the Crawley family as they welcome a film crew at Downton much to the chagrin of patriarch Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville). He was left with no other option in the matter as the palatial dwelling is in desperate need of a new roof and repairs that will be more than covered financially by the production.
With Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) left in charge of Downton and working closely with producer Jack Barber (Hugh Dancy), the family heads to the south of France to uncover a...

This story about Matthew Goode first appeared in The Limited Series/Movies issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
In the sixth episode of the Paramount+ limited series “The Offer,” “The Godfather” movie is finally in preproduction, the formerly outraged mafia has been pacified by some script changes, and Marlon Brando has signed on to star in the film for scale. But the rug is about to be pulled from beneath Paramount’s feet with parent company Gulf and Western seconds away from voting to sell the studio to a young oil tycoon. Before they can count the ayes, Bob Evans, played by English actor Matthew Goode, bursts into the room resplendent in a chic, late ’70s polyester business suit, oversized glasses and a trademark California bronze, and delivers the speech of his life, successfully persuading financially motivated execs to hold off on the deal and believe in the power of movies.

Ooo, so what’s this “new era” coming for the denizens of Downton Abbey, 1920s-Yorkshire’s nicest feudal hangover? I never truly thought it would be the guillotines my reading of the prequel had inspired in my imagination, though a girl’s gotta dream. But it would not be anachronistic to hope for the Great Depression hitting the Earl of Grantham’s interests hard. Or perhaps soak-the-rich taxation has finally come for Downton, forcing them to open the house to *gasp* paying visitors?
Alas, that last is the closest to comeuppance that will descend upon the sprawling Crawley family and their impossibly happy-with-their-station servants. In the mildest sort of meta one could hope for from this franchise, the moving pictures have come to Downton Abbey! Film director Jack Barber and stars Guy Dexter and Myrna Dalgleish are making a glamorous romantic drama and they need a grand house for the shoot.

Just days after news broke that Bridgerton is losing Regé-Jean Page, the Netflix drama announced Monday that it is gaining another two new cast members.
Shelley Conn (Terra Nova) and Calam Lynch (Mrs. Wilson) are joining the Season 2 ensemble. Conn will play Mary Sharma, an Earl’s daughter whose marriage once embroiled her family in scandal. She is the step mother of Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s (Jonathan Bailey) new love interest Kate Sharma, played by fellow Bridgerton newbie Sex Education‘s Simone Ashley.
